    Before I start, let me say I love Geek Squad. But data transfer/backup on computers that are headed for repair needs some improvement! My son took his laptop in and purchased an external drive so Geek Squad could back it up before sending it out for repair. When my son opened up the files at home he realized that critical files that were stored under a specific program's folder hadn't been transferred/backed up. Lesson here: Be sure to tell the staff where you drop of your computer where all your files may be located or they will only back up files in the official Documents folders! My son's laptop was already enroute to repair on the other side of the country and it was not fun getting the repair process stopped and the laptop sent back to our orginal store so it could be properly backed up. It took a long time. When the laptop arrived back in our home store, Geek Squad wanted to charge my son a second time to back up the other files. They didn't becausem as it turned out, they never had my son sign an agreement that specified which files would or would not be tranferred. Big oversight! The manager ended up agreeing to give a partial refund on the original data transfer after realizing that they were locking up my son's computer for a month...all while my son was in the middle of a college quarter. In the end the files were backed up and the laptop was again shipped out for repair. It ended up being replaced so the backup was extremely important. I hope the process is improved, the price for data transfer comes down and the speed of the entire data transfer process speeds up.

    I give this 4 stars because ultimately this tech advisor seems to have finally fixed my computer. This was the third time I have had the same slowing issue on this HP. I haven't even had this computer 3 full years. Ends up it was a failing, likely "lemon" hard drive. Not only have I addressed the problem with Geek Squad each time, I have ultimately had to go into the store 2 of the 3 times because online support could not help with the problem. How convenient that at the time of purchase I was buying the "best" tech support. But now, if I go in I get charged for the associates time and any work to download and re-load files. What do I get to charge back from my geek squad plan for online support not being able to help or my time without a computer, or the 3rd time addressing the same issue? Rhetorical as I am sure this is just the same "well if you had a different plan" conversation. But if in 3 years I no longer have the best plan, why would I pay now to upgrade not knowing when that plan will be obsolete. I am thrilled my computer is repaired, finally, and it is working great. I am also grateful to the team in-store for cloning things for me so I lost very little. But, the process of getting to grateful was/is a very bumpy ride.

    This was a great service and I am so happy that they were able to get all my data from my old computer to transfer to my new computer. Only gave 4 stars because I was never informed that this was at least a 2 day process and I have to travel at least 30 minutes to get to a best buy, so it was a little inconvenient to have to make this trip a couple of times as well as try and find an appointment time that worked with my schedule, especially around the holidays.

    Had the Geek Squad transfer data from a dead computer to an HP I bought from Best Buy. They did a great job and did it very fast.

    Geek Squad - Data Backup Or Transfer

    I am disabled and because of my disabilities, I need to use my computer for assistive technology in order to communicate with the outside word, to my kid's schools. etc. I am also medically homebound and I explained all this to the local Best Buy Geek Squad personnel. I was just highly disappointed that in spite of them being told this information, they did NOT make any effort to work expediently on fixing my computer. They had my computer for a month to reset my computer, and upload all my stuff to "MY" hard drive I provided. On the same day they said my computer was ready, when picking it up, it had to be left because it was not completed, nor everything put back onto my computer, so they stated that they had to keep it. This was a huge disservice to me as being in a power wheelchair, having no car, to get back and forth. Then they kept my computer for another 2 weeks. Also impeded on my work from home with my children's homework getting done by computer as that's how they must do their work. After picking up the computer for the 2ND "Your Computer Is Complete Call", I still had to be transferred to 2 Geek Squad agents thru the toll free number for them to correct a couple of items that the store agents downloaded onto my computer that was not done correctly, so the 2 phone Agents had to log on and remove and redownload the items for them to work properly. But, the actual Data Backup Transfer itself, worked.

    The agents backed up data and provided service on my laptop. Being a well seasoned individual the agents were very patient, showed me many things that I was unaware of and made recommendations to avoid the issues they identified. I have always bought the service agreement because I have had such good experiences with all the agents that have helped me with several different computers. Thanks Geek Squad!

    Data Transfer after a Crash

    I was in a panic when my hard drive crashed. I went in to purchase a new laptop and find out how they could help me. They were able to extract my information off the old laptop and retrieve my files and precious pictures. When I noticed some information was missing, I went back in and they were able to find it and move it onto the new laptop. There was no charge the second time I went in. I was overwhelmed but they made me a believer. Since I didn't have any other backup computer to use, they made the transfer within one day. I am totally grateful for their expertise.

    We visited with a hand full of different people over the process of transfering all the info from our old computer to our new one. Now that all the kinks are out, we are loving our new computer. Everyone was very nice and helpful.

    Very satisfied with the Geek Squad staff. They asked me a few questions in the beginning that lasted about 15 mins. The day I picked up my pc they explained to me what has been done and why. They did not do anything with it without my approval. They kept in contact with me the whole time. When I finally got my pc back I am very satisfied with the performance now. It works like it’s brand new again. Will use Geek Squad again for any technical needs and will definitely recommend them to family and friends.

    I brought in an old computer to move programs and files to my new computer. The service from check in till I picked up my new computer was outstanding. I had three different techs help me during the process and all 3 were excellent and you should be proud to have them on the geek squad at the Pensacola Fl Best Buy. I loved how they explained things to me in ways I could understand and learn.

    What I paid for was for them to transfer all my laptop data onto my hard drive in case it got lost while they examine and clear the virus. They make you feel like this is a risk so you want to get it done. I thought 85 dollars was more than a bit much for that. I think it should be included in the service plan that I pay for every year and not hardly use.

    The data backup was finished when I picked up my computers. The tech took the time to give me a thorough explanation of everything that was done. When I got home my new computer performed flawlessly.

    After purchasing a new laptop since mine crashed without access to the data, the Best Buy Sales Rep offered the services of the Geek Squad for a very low price. They were able to access my data on my blown hard drive and load it onto my new laptop and they did it within 2 days. There was no waiting when I picked it up and all the data that I requested was moved and it was in the correct locations. They really did a fantastic job and I highly recommend them.

    I brought a new Mac Mini and the Geek Squad did a data transfer from my old Mac Mini to the new one….There was some issues with the old one that they solved before a the transfer could be complete d….They did an excellent job and were extremely helpful….I will definitely use the Geek Squad again

    Unfortunately I have had to use the Geek Squad several times in providing a data transfer. They take their time and make sure everything is done properly. On pick up all items are reviewed and made sure you know where all the data are and organized for ease of access. I am a monthly subscriber and this is the absolute best money I have ever spent on technology support. As a small business owner I have to watch my expenditures and this by far is beyond my expectations of service and capabilities.

    They are very capable and responsive to questions. I was in area and stopped by and they knew exact status and schedule and offered to call me so I could get it the next morning if they finished that evening, as they did. I have been very happy to have paid for a one year geek squad membership when I bought my new computer. I bought it to include a data transfer and they did that well and I've used the phone support on a few questions and even had them remote in to my computer with permission and my assistance on one or two occasions. Like an office IT staff!!
