Def Leppard--same Lep sound, new lyrics

I'm a diehard Lep fan, so naturally, I love this album. Casual fans may not be able to appreciate it b/c it may sound too similar to other albums. It also lacks the typical ballads they're well known for, but that's b/c they released the album on their own--they did what they wanted. Which lends to the attraction of this album: it has grit, anthems and raw emotion. While I don't expect them to admit it, there is a newfound spirituality to many of the songs' lyrics, but in a less embattled way as on 1996's Slang (We Belong, Invincible, Sea of Love, Wings of an Angel, and Blind Faith). There are also throwbacks that simply shout in Def Lep fashion, "We're still having fun playing Anthem Rock!" (Let's Go, Dangerous, Man Enough, All Time High). While the other songs aren't bad--they're still DL, after all--they are more just filler songs. But there're several songs to this album (14 tracks), so plenty of tracks to pick out several favorites.

    Moments of greatness

Always liked Def Leppard, had Pyromania, then bought the first two albums, and realized I liked them a lot. So when the new album was released I heard Dangerous, and instantly ordered the whole CD. These are not all hard-rock songs, in fact, I'd say most aren't. But for some reason they really grew on me and I do think this is a great album. The kind you can just put on and work for an hour or so. Fast, slow, mellow, harder, it's kind of got it all. Nice job. I was happily surprised.

Def Leppard has been around a long time now, 35 years to be exact, and they always release a solid product. Ever since the passing of Steve Clark, however, their sound has changed from album to album. While that is not a bad thing, it has left fans longing for the days of their old sound. Fortunately, Def Leppard has finally released an album that should appeal to every portion of their fan base. Tracks like "Let's Go" and "Dangerous" will take you right back to the Hysteria days. "Wings of an Angel" and "Forever Young" are reminiscent of their earlier works. "Forever Young" and "We Belong" will satisfy fans of their ballads, and "Energized" is a modern, updated of the sound they were striving for on "X." This album has it all; there's not a bad track on here, and furthermore, they appear to have rediscovered their top notch song writing. This release has some of the loudest guitars and biggest hooks the band has ever come up with. I can't wait to hear some of these songs played live!!

If you are a fan of Def Leppard's 'Pyromania' and 'Hysteria' releases, this CD is for you. The songs, the performances and the production are all there. My only knock on this is that you can tell exactly which or artist most of the songs derived from, which to me is a little too close to copying something that came before.

I am a huge def leppard fan and have every album they have released. Now of course my top albums by them are hysteria, pyro, and adrenalized. But i even love and could crank high & dry, retroactive, and euphoria all night long. Then they made one of my favorite and in my opinion underrated rock albums ever in slang(i know slang was before euphoria) and showed a different sound and song writing skills that lep fans never seen. We knew they could make catchy, fun, and clever songs. Or make ballads that could strike a nerve and make us sing at the top of our lungs. But never heard them so raw or dark. So enter the last few full studio albums, Songs from the sparkle lounge and Def Leppard(2015) Sparkle has some very good sounding songs but feels like they are lost trying to capture the magic of pyro and hysteria but not quite getting there. The lyrics are mostly clever and well delivered but in a few songs just seem like they picked a word cause it rhymes. ( Reach into my soul put out the fire & wrap your arms around my like a wire) the wire part just feels awkward. These are the same struggles I noticed in the latest album only more often. The music is up to par with what I expect, but lyric and singing wise sometimes feels lazy and recycled. Overall this album still has about 6-9 songs that will be in my extensive Leppard mix so still worth checking out. PS they still kill it live also.

    Def Leppard (EP?)

Well I'm a big fan of the group and when I saw this as a new Ep I had to have it. For the price I paid it was worth it. Its not the Leppard of yester-year but a aging group that still has the spark. I was hoping for more Rock and got more pop so to say but as a fan I welcome almost anything they produce. There a number of good tunes on this , I kinda think its one of those in between disc to keep the fan hanging on till they produce another stronger one

I have to admit the album did not grab me right away, aside from the 2nd (Dangerous) and 13th (Wings of an Angel) songs, but over repeated listens it has grown on me. The last song (Blind Faith) has a Beatles quality that I really like. 'Man Enough' has a surprising funk sound that sounds like it was allot of fun for the band. Originally they were only going to release a 3-song set online, and I'm willing to bet that 'Man Enough', and ' Dangerous' were two of those songs. 'Energized' is my least favorite, it sounds like something from some cheesy boy band. It's not their best album, but it is pretty good. I do wish they had used more interesting album artwork. Albums like Hysteria and Pyromania are so memorable for their artwork, the one for this album is pretty lame and lazy.

and make another relevant album showcasing their growth and maturity but still keeping the spirit of what we love them for...soaring hooks and amazing harmonies! Is this their best? Possibly. Is this as good as anything else they've done before? Absolutely. Will you love it if you are a TRUE Leppard fan? No doubt!

One of the best eighties metal albums ever. Every song is killer.... no filler. The ladies like this too. Say you like this cd and get yourself one. You can play this as the soundtrack to anything, jog, party, whatever. Much better than the bands newer stuff. Lets get rocked..................

As good or better than Adrenalize. I am picky about melodic rock and this is one of the better discs in the past couple of years because of strong song writing and a good mix of tempos.

A solid effort with songs reminiscent of the Hysteria era. The first 3 songs are their best work, but no songs are just filler material. Dangerous is the best one - you'll want to keep replaying it - it stands out.

This latest release from Def Leppard is great!! They haven't lost a thing in all these years. They even have a song where every member sings a part, showing just exactly how much talent is in the band. I highly recommend the CD as well as catching them live if you can.

Def Leppard really created a great one with this new record. The Single off the album Let's Go sounding like something Clearly and Obviously from classic Hysteria Era. the Rest of the album is Def Leppard, but at times sounding like something fresh.

I was hesitant to pick of the new Def Leppard release as many bands from their era have softened musically with age. I'm happy to say that is not the case with this band! This album sound great. Good songs and great hooks. You won't be disappointed.

As a lifelong fan of Def Leppard, my biased expectations were undoubtedly high, but after hearing the first two singles, Lets Go and Dangerous, I had hope. Unfortunately I was overall not very impressed. There was a certain energy on this that lacked on Sparkle Lounge, so that was nice to hear, but it's one of those albums I'll easily forget about a year or two down the road. None of the songs were truly memorable. An okay album from a band a still highly admire!
