    Great Speaker

This speaker sounds amazing and is simple to set up and get playing. Couldn't be happier with this purchase. Would have like to get a W9 as well but it isn't in the budget just yet. I do play this speaker in conjunction with some Polk Omni S2 speakers and they work great together. You could also use these speakers with Phorus and Wren speakers since they all work together on Play Fi.

    Super sound

I bought this speaker earlier this month after hearing its big brother (W9) at a Magnolia store. I am not an audiophile but I do know enough to tell you that this speaker is incredible for a wireless speaker. I have owned other wireless speakers and returned them for lack of satisfaction but this speaker is so much better. I have heard Sonos at length and this is a better speaker in my opinion for reasons other than just performance. The wireless technology (DTS) needs some work still but the fact that you can interchange these speakers with other wireless products (not just Def Tech) is appealing. I have tried all sorts of sound on these speakers from classical to pop to R&B etc. and it is just terrific. The speaker is pricey but you get what you pay for and I would buy this again in a flash. I want to get the W9 next (you should visit Magnolia and hear it) but this is a time of year for giving so that has to take priority. Happy holidays to all.

Love it and it stopped working

I purchased 4 definitive speaks and one Poll Audio/ related brand. I absolutely Love the sound quality and ease of use of the app, BUT . . . Of the 5 speakers purchased only two remain functional after about 5 years and they replaced one. So after five years I have three speaker (one is the Polk Audio). I think it’s a defective battery/ power supply issue. I do love the speakers but if you need a speaker to work for more than a few years, I’d recommend another brand. Their warranty didn’t cover the last two speakers which quit working. Now I have to decide would I buy another given a roughly 2.5 year expected life.

READ THIS REVIEW to save hours of wasted time

Everyone knows that Def Tech has great sound in their wired speakers--better sound quality than many other speakers at price points double and triple. I own seven of their top end wired speakers in my home theater. What you will want to know in considering this speaker is that Def Tech has no business making speakers that do anything but produce sound using signals carried over wire. I read many of the reviews on this site and other sites and most of them basically state that the sound quality is great and the app is terrible. What you will want to understand is that you won't get anywhere with these speakers without the app, so the whole speaker system is jacked up from the start. It's not only the app--the entire WiFi setup and connectivity (radio receiver) of these speakers is garbage, like Def Tech contracted some low bidder working out of his mom's basement. I am a video/audiophile and have set up numerous home theaters, integrated smart home systems, and other home entertainment and security systems that use WiFi connectivity. My current home has over 25 WiFi devices that set up easily and work flawlessly on my gigabit WiFi network. So, what was my surprise when I decided to buy two W7s to expand upon my Def Tech W Studio Micro to go from 3.1 to 5.1 surround sound in our living room. Connecting the 3 speakers to Wifi and to each other--following the directions to the T--was a troubleshooting nightmare of several hours. Now, weeks following their setup, the connection fails regularly. I'm returning mine. If you must go wireless, go Sonos or Bose, otherwise go wired. Pros: Small and attractive. Outstanding sound while streaming music, NOT surround sound. Cons: 1) Awful WiFi setup that does not work as described in setup directions. 2) WiFi connection fails regularly after initial setup and reconnection is a time-consuming chore of 10-15 minutes if you know how to avoid the setup pitfalls and you're lucky. 3) Used as surround speakers with the W Studio Micro, the sound projected is minimal unless the relative volume is manually increased and then the sound is brassy and unnatural sounding.

    Good sound but problems

I bought 2 of the W7 speakers a year ago on the suggestion of my salesperson. Speakers are so-so. I expected a little more base but not the Sonos sound. My frustration is connecting to the speakers and the app stinks. You cannot always get connected. It is also hard to switch from one speaker to another beings they are in different rooms.

I got these speakers as BOGO in out local best buy for 249, So i got 2 of these for 249 which is an incredible deal. for the amount i paid i am completely satisfied and the sound is great, i am planning to remove my sony 5.1 and all its wires to install these speakers. one thing i noticed is that the sound from these speakers is kind of multi directional which liked it .. BASS is good and with 2 speakers i like the sound . i might not have spent 399$ each to buy these ..

    Sounds great; Wifi unreliable

Purchased 2 W7's and the W9. The Sound is fantastic, however, the wifi connection and app are unreliable. The reason I purchased was to have the ability to quickly send music to various combinations of speakers in the house. Problem 1: A speaker can only be in 1 group at a time. So, if I want different combinations, I have to delete and rebuild group each time. Problem 2: Speakers dropped off the network every time I used them and required 2-5 minutes of opening, closing, and restarting the app. It was never the same speaker from problem-to-problem. The bottom line for me is that if I can't have music playing within 1 minute of opening the app, then I'm out. Didn;t read about these problems on best buy review; however, I see it frequently on the DT app review. I returned them.

Great sound at a great price

The W7 sounds much bigger than it actually is. And I got it on sale at best buy for $249. For that price and the sound quality its a no brainer. I now have two W7's, one in my garage and one in my kids play room and the micro studio in my living room. I like how you can play different music on every speaker or the same station on all speakers with the Def tech app, which is very user friendly. The Def Tech wifi speakers work excellent for whole house sound. For the price and sound quality the Def tech speakers are a bargain. Best Buy shipped the speaker in a box that was 5 times the size of the speaker. It was packaged and protected very well. It shipped and arrived within a few days.

    Terrible speakers...

I’ve never been so disappointed in a piece of technology in my life. I purchased 2 of these to use as rear surrounds for my W Studio Micro. These will never stay connected to my Orbi WiFi setup. Every time this happens the surround setup is lost. I would never recommend anyone buying these. There’s definitely a flaw with the design so that they do not provide enough power to hold a good WiFi connection/signal. Stay away from these and the Def Tech brand. FWIW, my sound bar has had major issues too.

Sub par sound quality and horrible app

Pricey at $400. I am disappointed with the over boost on the bass. It only has a 4" woofer and cut in the bass response would be nice. I get that a 4" woofer has limitations, that being said the lack of any tuning is baffling to me. 99% of my music can't be played past 40% power or the woofer breaks up. If it had been tuned for a flat response I would be much happier. How hard would it be to add tone controls to the app? Also, adding bluetooth capability would solve the problem as you could use a tuning app.

We have 2 W7's that have both had to be replaced and a studio sound bar that I should have replaced. I've got a solid wi-fi signal through the whole house and the speakers still drop out from the app. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

Often drops out, music skips in middle, restarts half way, disconnects from wifi. Disappointing. No wonder is on a fire sale. Stay away! Better wireless speakers are out there.
