Very good specs for the price. The design looks good. The only knocks I have on this is the fan noise. Really loud under load. Also the cooling leaves a bit to be desired. I ended up pairing this with a cooling pad to keep the thermals low. I also wish this had a 4K screen.

I just upgraded to this Dell G7 a few weeks ago from a much older laptop. I am amazed with the performance of this system. Everything loads instantly and it can handle any game I've tried on it perfectly. It gets pretty warm, but I ordered a cooling pad on Amazon for it that works great. Very satisfied!

As a researcher, I pitted this beast against all other high-spectrum, mid-level tier gaming computers; no $15,000 hybrid, extraterrestrial dream machines. This Dell Gaming Laptop is blazing, crazy fast! With it's boot drive of 256GB SSD, as soon as I hit "Power On", I'm inside, either booting up any of my high end games, email, or trolling Face Book in less than 10 seconds! The graphics are crisp, clean, and quiet. This model blows heat to the back, unlike so many that get rid of it from the side. For a gamer, this is an added win/win! The lighted keyboard is also crazy, as I can program it to do anything except dance with me. The sound, in my opinion, is on par with some higher end systems, and it's crisp and deep when needed. Though, 90% of my game play is done with headphones, so though it's somewhat important to sound good, there's still no comparison to head phones, unless you have an external kick butt sound system! The cost, after taxes, was just a tad over $1,500! Why do I like it, you ask? Because it's a BEAST!!!

Disclaimer: I'm not a computer guru of any kind! I use this laptop for a design build business and NOT for any gaming whatsoever. I'm running Chief Architect, GIMP (photo manipulation) , Open Office, and recently Hit Film for video editing. I also use it for browsing of course. I sometimes have most of those running at the same time and it generally can handle it. It slows down work on other applications a bit when running a Chief render, but still allows me to be productive. The performance is better than the MSI GE60 I had before. Everything is a few generations newer. This machine seems to render images a little better/faster. When running renders in Chief Architect it runs at full throttle (CPU) and the fans run a lot, but it doesn't seem to get overly hot. I have it raised off the desk surface for more air flow. Chief seems to require a bit of gusto to run, at least for 3d work. One thing to note is I transferred all of my files onto the 1TB HDD. I plan on upgrading to a 1TB SSD. Maybe that will help speed things up due to transfer speeds. I'm probably going to upgrade the RAM & internal PCI memory too some day to make it more beastly. Other than that it's built really nice, looks great, and the screen looks nice. I like the rear oriented ports. Speakers are okay, it's a laptop! The keyboard seems good for me. The touch pad is good, but I don't use it much. I also really liked that it had an SD card slot. I have had a need to have two SD cards available to work on projects because I have a few of them for my Canon camera. In that case I use an SD card reader and the provided slot. Lastly, I bought it in my birthday month, so Best Buy gave me 10% off this machine!

I bought this laptop two weeks ago and it’s preformed amazingly and just like it’s supposed to! While it does get a tad bit hot it’s expected with a gaming laptop. The fans can get a little loud but I game with headphones on so it’s no bother to me. I have yet to play some graphics heavy games but from the videos I’ve seen it runs at 60 FPS on most AAA games. I’ve mostly been playing siege on it and it runs smoothly one of my favorite little neat tricks it has is the customizable backlit keyboards and you can customize different games to have different lighting themes for each game you play! I definitely recommend getting it if you’re gonna be on the move and want to game occasionally it’s one of my favorite Best Buy purchases yet!!

The Dell G17 7790 is a strong laptop. Featuring a i7-9750H 6 core 12 Thread processor, 16GB DDR4 2666MHZ RAM, and a RTX 2060 (non MAX Q). Everything I needed out of this laptop from being able to handle games I throw at it, to handling programming on Visual Studio 2019, handling Unreal Engine, Unity, Game Maker Studio 2, and Godot Engine perfectly fine. My only two compalints are, the choice of storage types here. You get a 256 SSD + a 5400 RPM 1 TB HDD built in. That's a very poor choice of storage especially for the price of 1499$. Id expect AT LEAST no less than a 512 GB SSD like all the other more budget laptops out there. Second complaint is, though its hard to curb in gaming laptops, is the thermal output. Jesus this thing gets hot. 90C+ on CPU when at 4GHZ and 80C on GPU. I decided to poke around in BIOS and saw that turboboost was on, so I turned that right off, making my CPU stock speed of 2.6GHZ and now it doesn't exceed 75C, and oddly enough GPU doesn't exceed 70C now. That CPU was really frying out everything just because it game overclocked out of the box. Other than that, I was able to play all my JRPG's at Ultra @ 1080p fine 70FPS+ , Call of Duty Modern Warfare 100FPS + 1080p Ultra with turbo boost off, and Destiny 2 at 80 FPS High - Very High 1080p. It's a good laptop, just have Geek Squad replaced the 1TB 5400 RPM HDD for a 1 TB SSD and you'll be solid. BUYER BEWARE, IF YOU DONT WANT THERMALS EXCEEDING 85C AT MOST, TURN TURBOBOOST OFF!!!

I've had it for one month and I'm very happy with my choice. I like the screen size, the backlit keyboard, the SSD - these features, among others, were nice upgrades from my previous laptop. This is a great computer at a very reasonable price point.

This laptop was purchased for work and to have for gaming on the side. It far delivered beyond my expectations, and is probably one of the best purchases I have made to date. Turns out Dells are basically just Alienware without the logo.

When COVID-19 forced me to work from home, I thought I was set with the laptop I already had. I laughed at people thronging stores to buy laptops - BUT - karma got me and my craptop died within a week. I was lucky enough to find this amazing, wonderful, fast (and relatively affordable) machine. This workhorse of a laptop was easy to setup, starts up fast, does not freeze up, and takes a lot of punishment (25 different Excel workbooks open while also having 10 Word docs open and running Teams (don't judge, I'm forced to use it), Outlook, 50 or more tabs in Chrome - and it doesn't freeze up. It is a speed demon. Best purchase of 2020 so far.

Good laptop overall, but have a problem with playing GTA V. After playing for 30 minutes - 1 hour, the computer shuts down due to overheating. This problem doesn't happen with other games. I am disappointed however as this laptop is very expensive and i figured it could handle very demanding games. I've tried updating the latest drivers for the NVIDIA graphics card and BIOS but the problem persists. Is this an issue with the cooling fans? Are there any other settings that can be adjusted to help with overheating?

It's been a bit over a year now, but I've had no issues with this product. The only thing I can think of to be nitpicky about is the fan noise, but I personally don't mind it at all. Fast, beautiful, and reliable.

I just wanted to write a review on some of the questions I had before buying this laptop and couldn't find definitive answers. A large aspect I wanted to achieve was fps for high end games. This laptop delivers, you can easily play titles like Doom on ultra settings. I also wanted to experience VR, which wasn't a huge deal breaker but would be a plus. I can honestly say that this laptop delivers exceptionally well. I'm able to play Skyrim with high graphic settings/mods in VR as well as other games like Subnautica. I will warn you that the laptop does sound like a jet engine when it's maxing out it's performance. This is to be expected considering the output it's giving. Overall, it was a great purchase for me to blame school as an excuse for but it's ultimately a gaming machine!

The quality of the screen is average. The size of the screen allows is great to have. The huge storage allows you to have many apps on it without having to spend extra for more. The fan gets kind of loud though.

This is a solid chill gaming laptop performance wise. I bought it open box during the pandemic and never had an issue with it. I put in a lot of hours of Horizon: Zero Dawn and had very little lag to no lag during the most intense action scenes. This laptop does get pretty hot and doesn't have the best battery life. I would definitely recommend it to chill gamers like me or someone who just wants a beefed up laptop.
