    Product Fail

Purchased for my daughter's 14th birthday. Very familiar with high-end Dell, and HP computers; and long-term Best Buy customer. We were very frustrated right away, as when trying to set up with email address, the keypad c and z keys were inoperative. Nothing. Returned immediately, and sure enough, our BB was sold out, after two hours; they had three earlier in the afternoon. BB would not upgrade to the same Dell with the 15" screen at no cost, and instead are ordering a replacement. My daughter has to wait a week, for the new unit to be delivered to the store. I was astounded that Dell didn't catch a hardware flaw that big. The bright spot to this letdown is that the fail happened immediately, and not after the warranty had ended.

OK, not fantastic. Hard drive & keyboard failed.

It was ok. The keyboard started failing a little under 5 years into ownership and it's not easily replaced. The 2 in 1 format doesn't work well. When in Tablet mode, it's hard not to be hitting keys on the backside. I'm not a fan. The original hard drive failed just a few years in...maybe 3 years. I replaced it and kept going, but then the windows update forced me to "OneDrive" whcih screwed up the file storage. I guess I was "ok" with it because I bought another Inspiron from Dell after this one. This laptop required a Dell Docking station that was around $250 to be able to support dual monitors. It was a stable device that generally functioned well, other than the drive failure and keyboard failure, but those failures are pretty significant. When the keyboard failed, I added a wireless keyboard and kept using the unit in "tent" mode and more like a desktop than a laptop for a while.
