8GB of ram is the only unattractive feature. Works well high fps in the games I've tested. Gets warm under load...but GPUs do that. I'm happy. Get the i7 version if you're more than a casual gamer.

In many ways, I want to like this Dell G3, as we uses Dell laptops at work, and the build quality, in general stands up to every day abuse. 3-5 days after using the system, system BSOD, with error code Video_TDR_Failure. Did this a couple time, but seems to be okay now, after drivers update. I'm sad that I have to give this a 1 star, as I found out it's a Max Q version of the GTX 1660Ti, only after about a month of purchase. Every where on the website, including the best buy staffs re-assured me that it's a not a Max Q. I've only found out when I my son told me that the performance is on the lower of GTX 1660 Ti, compared to that of his friends real GTX 1660 Ti. Worse yet, we wanted a thinner GTX 1660 Ti, and this one was supposedly under 21.6 mm per the sticker on the system. But, in reality, not even measuring the rubber feet, this NB is closer to 25 mm than it is to 21.6mm Much deception by an, otherwise, reputable brand. CPU, when gaming, also reached closer to 95 degree, after about 25 minutes of play, at lower graphic settings. I think we can deal with that, as this is not our first gaming notebook. I've also purchased a Zephyrus G, though, performance is lower than the G3, but at least Asus disclosed that they have a Max Q system, and our Zephyrus G is indeed under 20mm. We wanted a performance gaming laptop, and should've bought the G5 instead.

I've owned this laptop for about 24 hours and I'm already ready to return it. Out of the box, memory utilization sits around 75-80% and my workstation locked up and became unusable for several minutes during routine windows updates when memory utilization was peaked at 100%. I'm not sure if this is due to all of the DELL bloatware that comes pre-installed or the hour of Windows updates it needed, but I just spent a lot of money on this brand new laptop, and it has more issues than the 2011 laptop it's replacing. ( 8 years old with i5-2230, 16GB RAM, Samsung EVO SSD, but still a smoother experience than this brand new Dell.) Also, it runs WAY too hot. Either the thermal solution is poorly designed, or I got a dud. CPU temps while at idle were hitting 85C. After 5 minutes of light gaming (5 year old game on Medium settings), CPU temps hit 100c and thermal throttle caused frame stuttering. I immediately shut down the PC out of fear for the safety of the hardware. Note: The GPU temps never climbed above 75C - For some reason the shared heat pipes are sufficient for the GPU, just not the CPU. This is not really ok for a brand new laptop that retails for over $1000. Will be calling support and probably returning this ASAP.

      Jefferson,

Thanks for your review. We're sorry that your new laptop is running hotter and slower than you hoped it would. We'd suggest that you look through the programs installed on your computer and if you do not plan to use all of them you can un-install some of them with these instructions: Uninstalling or removing software or applications that you do not use or do not need from your PC can help speed up your PC. Applications may include background processes, system services, context menu entries and other things that can slow down your PC.

Uninstall applications you no longer need using Programs and Features (previously called Add/Remove Programs). Unnecessary applications occupy space on your hard disk drive.

      1. Press the Windows logo key + R on the keyboard.
      2. In the Run dialog box, type appwiz.cpl and press the Enter key.
      3. In the list, select a program and click Uninstall.

If you'd like your computer to run at a cooler temperature, here are some suggestions:

      Tips for Proper Usage:

      1. Dell does not recommend placing portable systems directly on your lap. Due to reductions in the thickness of modern portable systems, heat transfer can be an issue.
      2. Using a portable system (Laptop) on a hard, flat, non-cloth surface will increase airflow and reduce heat from underneath and inside the system.
Using the portable system on a blanket, pillow, or other types of cloth will cover up the fan cause the computer to overheat and can cause permanent damage.
      3. It is recommended to use the portable system in a Room temperature of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F) with a Humidity level no greater than 90%.
      4. Use compressed air to clean the vents on a regular basis.
      5. Using a cooling pad can decrease heat and increase performance.
      6. If you want to know the temperature limitations for your system, go to the Dell Support Website, look up your system model then open the user guide under the manuals link.

We hope that these tips help your computer perform better for you.
