Poorly made
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My son has had this for a year, in his bedroom (never has left the desk, let alone the house) and the screen housing/hinge is broken. Quick search online and this appears to be a common issue, but Dell doesn’t seem to care. Not worth the money.

Posted .BBSucks,
We're very sorry to hear about the overheating issues that you're experiencing. The Alienware Control Center in our computer does allow you to control the temperatures that your computer goes up to while it is in use. We'd recommend adjusting the settings on your computer so that it operates at a cooler temperature for you. Here are some additional tips to help keep your computer cool:
Tips for Proper Usage:
1. Dell does not recommend placing portable systems directly on your lap. Due to reductions in the thickness of modern portable systems, heat transfer can be an issue.
2. Using a portable system (Laptop) on a hard, flat, non-cloth surface will increase airflow and reduce heat from underneath and inside the system.
Using the portable system on a blanket, pillow, or other types of cloth will cover up the fan cause the computer to overheat and can cause permanent damage.
3. It is recommended to use the portable system in a Room temperature of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F) with a Humidity level no greater than 90%.
4. Use compressed air to clean the vents on a regular basis.
5. Using a cooling pad can decrease heat and increase performance.
6. If you want to know the temperature limitations for your system, go to the Dell Support Website, look up your system model then open the user guide under the manuals link.

Great for beginners. Will need to upgrade eventual
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this as an entry level gaming laptop to move on from xbox one. At the beginning, this thing performed excellent for what I need. I was bascially playing steam games, Squad, Dayz, War Thunder, Arma 3 etc. It seems now the performance is lacking, I no longer run 60 fps on any game. War Thunde gets the best and most smooth fps and gameplay. I can barely run Sqaud or Dayz without dropping to 1 fps in firefights. Also after normal use for 4 years, the hinge finally crapped out and bascially exploded. The computer still works, but wont shut fully or squarely. Overall I'm perfectly happy with how this laptop peformed for the price point. Time to upgrade though.

Overall Nice Gaming Platform
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I think Dell did a good job with this laptop, it provides decent gaming specs while still keeping it reasonably portable and affordable. This laptop is deceiving, it’s made of plastic but feels as solid as most metal cased laptops. It looks sleek and the overall design definitely distinguishes itself as more than an ordinary laptop. On the downside its slightly heavy for a 15” laptop. While the i5 processor matched with the 512 gb SSD make this a responsive laptop it’s the GeForce GTX 1660 video card and added software that make it a gamer. Besides the video card Dell also includes the Alien Control software that allows you to monitor the hardware as well as do some fine tuning of the hardware to improve your gaming experience. You don’t get total control of the hardware but you can select from 4 pre-configured thermal profiles that will manipulate the CPU, GPU, Thermal Comfort and Acoustic Comfort levels to give you the desired outcome. You can also build gaming profiles and store these for specific games. I found that even without doing much tweaking this laptop was plenty powerful enough to handle all the games I tried at full HD without any noticeable stutter or issue. Dell also includes the G key (F7) which when pressed really increases the performance of the laptop. I found the trick to this key is to know where you will need it within your game because you are going to want to press it before you need it. The display does full HD 1080 resolution but it is not a touch screen. Overall the display was responsive and had good visual clarity and color. The speakers are located under the laptop and have sound ports that can be very problematic at times – see below. The power jack, USB ports, Ethernet port, HDMI, SD and headphone jacks are all located on the sides. There are 2 USB 2.0, one USB 3.0 and one USB-C port. The keyboard is lit up in blue light which is quite cool and much easier on the eyes when playing games with the lights off. I found the keys to be quite responsive and the large touch pad was easy to navigate with. The 3d audio equalizer that comes with this laptop is really nice especially with a good set of headphones. The power brick is on the large size and the power cable to the laptop is the thickest I have seen in a while. Dell claims the laptop will charge quickly thus the hefty supply and cable. A couple of things to note about this laptop. I found this laptop to be a good compromise between my more powerful desktop and my lightweight laptop. I use headphones when I use this laptop because if anything either blocks or sits near the sound ports under the laptop the audio quality degrades rapidly. You can set the laptop on a table and the sound quality is pretty good however if your notebook or even your pen get near the sound ports it can cause the sound to become muffled and distorted. Bottom line is that if you want good sound quality you need to make sure the laptop is on a solid surface and the sound ports are clear. Luckily there is an audio headphone jack on the side and I had no issues pairing my blue tooth headphones or ear buds. Another item of note is that the bottom of the laptop can fry my legs at times even though there are two fans to help dissipate heat. The heat generation is definitely tied to how hard you run the laptop but if you are buying this to run all out while gaming expect some serious heat on the bottom and out the back. Also when you kick in the G key for higher performance the fan noise can be quite loud and annoying, another reason to use headphones if you are going to be doing any serious gaming. For a mid-tier laptop I think the G3 delivers solid gaming performance. The Alien Control Center and the overall look and feel of the laptop and keyboard help it stand out from the competition.

Subtle Powerful Gaming Machine
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The enclosure of the laptop is subtle for a gaming laptop, which is great. The are blue accents around the edges, and a the Dell logo on the lid is a nice looking blue/green metallic. I prefer the understated design of this, more than some of the other less professional looking gaming laptops. The laptop is incredibly thin for a gaming machine, which is great for portability. It also has rubber feet on the bottom that raise it off of the surface, to allow for better air flow. There are many ports here, too: Dell power, usb-c DisplayPort, HDMI, 3 usb ports (I think only 1 is usb 3), ethernet, headphone jack, sd card, and a Kensington lock. I wish it could be powered over usb-c, but the usual Dell power port is OK. The power adapter is very large and the laptop wants its 130 watts of power (plugging in another Dell power adapter might work, but the laptop will warn you if it won’t meet the power it prefers). This laptop has been a great update for me in terms of gaming. I was able to play Shadow of the Tomb Raider at somewhere between high and ultra settings (letting the GeForce experience application optimize the game for me). I was able to get around 60fps average, and didn’t notice any problems with performance or rendering. The laptop has a generous amount of SSD storage, too (512GB), which has really fast read and write speeds. The screen is 1080p, which works fine for me, and the colors seems very accurate and viewing angles are great. I’ll be using this with an external monitor most of the time, so the screen isn’t a high priority for me - but it looks good, gets very bright and should be more than suitable for most people. The only potential problem I have with this machine is the fan. The fan gets really loud. I’d recommend using headphones while playing games or performing other resource intensive tasks, to not be distracted by it. I also wish the webcam supported Windows Hello, for faster login, but that may have been a cost-saving measure which I understand. Not only for gaming, I’d imagine this would also be a great laptop for video editing or software development, as the specs are higher than most, and it is easily portable. Overall, I’m really enjoying this laptop - great performance with a subtle design, at a reasonable price.

For the price this machine is a beast!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the price you get a laptop with 8GB of DDR4 Ram in dual channel, Nividia 1660 to max Q, Intel i5 9300H and a 512Gb pci SSD all in a budget friendly laptop. I mostly play older games like the sims 4, KOTOR and etc and plays them without a hitch and should play all modern titles at least in high in a comfortable frame rate. Only need to worry about 60 FPS because the laptop has a 60 hz screen. The screen gets bright enough for in home use but I wouldn’t use it outside. It’s a tad heavy so I wouldn’t carry it everywhere but it’s light enough maybe college and back with the charger. Battery life is only around 4-5 hours with non gaming use.

Probably the worst laptop ive ever seen.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The internals are great but the shell theyre in falls apart so quickly. I wasnt hard on it at all, even taking care to keep it clean and in good condition, but the plastic basically fell apart. the hinge came unattached from the screen about 6 months after getting it. The battery never lasted more than an hour or 2 even when not playing any kind of game on it. This plus the ungodly amount of bloat ware on this piece of garbage when you buy it makes it so I wouldnt recommend this to my worst enemy.

Worst laptop ever and customer service worse!
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop and very soon after the lid started not closing properly! I tried to send it in and had problems even receiving the box to send it in. Then Covid-19 happened and I didn’t want to send it in and have it just sit there. I ended up sending it in and now am being told it is not covered. I will never buy another Dell product if they don’t honor the warranty and will encourage everyone in my family and business not to. Extremely disappointed, Dell used to be known as a good computer company.

Very Solid Gaming Laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far I've been loving this gaming laptop, and for several good reasons. First and most importantly, even though it doesn't have the top end chipset and graphic cards, it is more than capable of playing the games that typically lag on other computers. As background, I recently acquired a gaming laptop that met the requirements for all the games I played, however, there were errors trying to run the programs, and when they did run, the games lagged and had severe screen issues. Some of those issues have been cleared up on that laptop, but when comparing this right out of the box it seems to handle the games much better. The games I used to test it were two Forza games, which are very high needs on the graphics card and memory. And Roblox Destruction Simulator, which while a small game by size, has significant lags on most computers. Another thing I like about this laptop is the design and color scheme. The design is sleek, cool, and functional. The black computer with the blue keylights is also very modern looking. And despite the good performance, it is much thinner than most gaming laptops. I did notice that the power adapter is much larger than my other laptops. Including above, everything works great so far. The machine just feels solid, fast and functional. I have no complaints so far and would recommend this gaming laptop.

Is this laptop for Real!?!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow, just Wow. Games are silky smooth on this laptop. I played a couple such as Street Fighter V, Tomb Raider , Lost Planet 3, Pinball Arcade DX 11 Mode and a few others and I a just wowed by the quality of the unit. It's solid and throws anything it's handed. It was easy to setup. and has enough ports for my Astro Gaming Headset, WD USB 3.0 1TB External Drive and Logitech Gaming mouse with Power Play mat. USB Port is awesome and surprising for this gaming laptop but I would expect no less from Dell to include this. Interfaces well with my XBOX One Controller too. It has a 512 GB SSD, But for my games I play they wlll go on the external drive. Unit does have some bloatware but easily removable. Does not ship with the last Windows build, but it's not hurting anything for the time being, so if it updates, well fingers crossed it goes well if you know what I mean and you're a gamer and tech enthusiast like me. I say if it works out , don't do anything else to fix it. 8GB Ram is too little for some, they may gripe at it , but again... I threw everything on high detail and no problems. Good to go here! I am a little ticked off that I had to sign in with my XBOX Ultimate Membership log in, AKA Microsoft Account and was not offered the chance to create an offline account but it's really not a deal breaker as I'm going to need it sometime soon to play the PC Game library I get across my XBOX One and Gaming Laptop. There are so many other reasons I can give to get this and it's very competitive with some of the other units out on the market. A solid choice for any gamer.

Great for the price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At the the low-ish end of the gaming laptop market, the new Dell G3 is very hard to beat but I personally find it uninspiring. I completely understand that price is a factor in most purchases and for what you get the G3 is an excellent choice. The picture is sharp, the graphics and processor speeds are adequate for most any game and when not gaming it handles everyday tasks with ease. However, it's not the lightest laptop out there and the 100% plastic case feels a tad flimsy. I love electronics and gadgets and to put it simply, the G3 is not a laptop I would be excited to show my friends. Don't think that I don't like the G3, I do. I would highly recommend it to someone who didn't want to break the $1,000 mark but I would probably be inclined to pony up an extra $200 to move up to the G7 series for the i7 processor and upgraded graphics or save up a bit more to get into the Alienware line.

bios are bad, makes GPU a joke.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had this computer for a single day and suddenly it says it there is no graphics card. Went looking for a solution and on the fell forms its clear that there is a glitch or just poor programming in the Bios as it's not recognized even there. Dell spears to be aware of the problem but so far no fixes. So don't buy this cause you just won't get the quality in graphics it promises and will just function as a non-gaming laptop as it runs on integrated grapics.
