Don’t purchased
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Horrible product. Device stopped working after two weeks of using it and when I was trying to utilize the warranty, Best Buy gave me the runaround on getting it serviced. Ultimately, leaving it up to me to pay for repair. It’s a nice looking laptop. Pretty decent processor. However, pretty useless at this point since it is not working at the moment.

Nice affordable laptop/touchscreen tablet.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First impression: My first impression of the 14” Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 laptop is that it is another solid laptop from Dell. The aluminum chassis feels very strong, the 360° display hinges are tight with no play, holding the display at whatever angle you want. The keyboard is the typical Dell keyboard, with wide and flat keys, perfect for both typist and two-finger typers as well. And the backlight keys are easy to see in the dark, without being too bright. The packaging is also typical packaging, which does a good job protecting the laptop. The laptop is suspended in the middle of the box with strong cardboard ends. The laptop is in a soft cloth, to protect the finish. And inside the laptop is another cloth, protecting the screen. What’s in the Box: • Dell Inspiron 14 7740 Laptop. • Dell Power Adapter. • Warranty, Safety, and Regulatory Information paper. Features: • Dell ComfortView to reduce harmful blue light emissions • Dual Digital Microphone Array with Temporal Noise Reduction • 360° hinge for tablet mode and tent mode • Dolby sound • Fingerprint reader Ports: • SD card reader • Universal 3.5 mm audio jack • USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A • HDMI 1.4 port** • Single USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A • Two USB Type-C® 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) with Power Delivery and DisplayPort™ Technical Specifications: • Processor: Intel® Core™ 5 120U (10 cores, up to 5.0 GHz Turbo) • Operating System: Windows 11 Home, English, French, Spanish • Graphics Card: Intel® Graphics • Display: 14", Touch, FHD+, WVA, 300 nits, • Memory: 16 GB: 2 x 8 GB, DDR5, 5200 MT/s • Storage: 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive • Case: Ice Blue, with Fingerprint Reader • Keyboard: Ice Blue English Backlit Copilot Key Keyboard • Touchpad: Precision touchpad • Camera: Integrated Widescreen FHD (1080p) Webcam • Audio: 2 tuned speakers w/Dolby Atomos Core and Waves MaxxAudio® Pro • Chassis: Aluminum • Wireless: Intel® Wi-Fi 6E AX211, 2x2, 802.11ax, Bluetooth® • Primary Battery: 4-Cell Battery, 54WHr (Integrated) • Power: 65W AC adapter, USB Type-C • Height: 0.62”- 0.74” • Width: 12.36” • Depth: 8.90” • Weight: 3.77 lbs. Performance: The setup was a typical Windows 11 setup. One thing that was different is the initial updates took quite a while longer than normal. But I also know that Microsoft has released some hefty updates over the last 2 months. The performance of this laptop is good and on par for its intended audience. I didn’t do any heavy testing because this isn’t a high-performance laptop. But for business use and home use, it does a great job. The new class i5 CPU does a great job, and with 16 GB of RAM and an M.2 NVMe drive, this laptop is very responsive. I opened all the software that I use every day, 9 different IT applications, ran Apple Music, and streamed Netflix, and the laptop didn’t miss a beat. The video is very good. It is bright, crisp, and the Dell ComfortView helps reduce tired eyes after hours of use. I spend 9-10 hours a day in front of the computer, so this is a nice feature for me. The wide viewing angle is nice, but not something I would use much. Streaming video looks good on this laptop. I’m not much of a tablet user, but having the 2-in-1 does have its uses. For instance, when working with clients, it’s less distracting and easier to talk with them and take notes in tablet mode, either using touch screen or the optional pen. But when working on client’s systems, laptop mode is king. Conclusion: To be honest, I am a Dell fan. I work with them every day in my job and have for years. The Dell Inspiron 14 7740 2-in-1 is another fine laptop from Dell. It has great performance in its class, it is a reversable laptop/tablet with touchscreen and an optional pen, and really good graphics from Intel Graphics. If you are looking for a good all around laptop with 360° tablet functionality, I highly recommend the Dell Inspiron 14 2-in-1 7740 laptop.

Don't mess with me!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unit was on sale. Not in stock, so order to ship was placed. Email updates said shipment delayed....again, and again, and again. Finally was told a unit might ship eventually, but a date was given when the order -- if not filled -- would be cancelled. I don't play that game .... by the time that 2 week+ date came around, Best Buy and all other sources would no longer have their units on sale. I DON'T THINK SO! Ended the "bait and switch" tactic and CANCELLED THE BEST BUY ORDER.

Great laptop, held back by not so great speakers.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Once again, Dell has put out another amazing mid-level laptop. I cant even count how many Dell laptops and computers I have owned over the years. They are definitely one of the first brands I always look at when I want to get something new. They have a long history of putting out great products that just work, and in the rare event that they don’t, they have great customer service and warranties to back up their products. Out of the box this fells like a very well-built laptop. It has the usual silvery with a bluish tint color to it. Open it up and you are greeted with an amazing looking glossy touchscreen. It is a 14” 1920x1200 which is considered Full HD+. I found the touchscreen to work very well and to be very responsive. I also didn’t notice that it showed fingerprints too badly, which is great for a touchscreen device. For ports you get a full size HDMI, 2 USB and 2 USB-C (which you will need 1 for charging) There is also a headset port to use with headphones and a microphone and finally a SD card reader. As a photographer and drone pilot, I definitely love that Dell still includes SD card readers on their machines. Its great for dumping off a bunch of pictures and videos onto my computer while im on the go. The keyboard is very comfortable to use. They are not quite full size keys due to the size of the laptop, but I have fairly big hands, and I am able to type without any problems. The keyboard also has a nice adjustable backlight as well. The keyboard also has a fingerprint reader for extra security and to very quickly and easily unlock your computer. The design of the laptop is 2-in-one, this means the screen can completely fold over the back of the laptop which essentially turns it into a tablet. Also, when you flip it over, Windows 11 automatically switches over to its laptop mode so it will bring a touchscreen keyboard on the screen when you need to type and things like that. Performance wise, this computer worked great for any everyday task you can throw at it. You can easily multitask with watching videos, surfing the web, using office programs and email and things like that. With its 16GB of DDR 5 memory, I was even very easily able to do more demanding tasks like editing photos in Photoshop and editing videos as well. Granted, this isn’t as powerful as something like a gaming laptop, if you need to use it for things like this on the go, it can easily handle them. One thing I am quite disappointed with on this laptop is the speakers while playing music. I like to listen to a lot of rock and metal music which can be a little bass heavy. The speakers on this, even at fairly low volumes sounded very distorted and they were really struggling to play the music. I didn’t find it to be as bad if you were listening to a podcast, or watching a movie unless it was like an action movie with lots of explosions and things, those sound pretty bad as well. So if you plan to listen to a lot of music or action movies through the built in speakers, you will be pretty disappointed with their performance. As a side note, through headphones, earbuds, or a Bluetooth speaker everything does sound completely normal. Overall, this is a great laptop, very portable, has a great 2-in-1 design, and can handle most productivity and entertainment tasks with ease. If you can overlook the speaker problem, I would highly recommend this laptop. But if you plan to listen to a lot of music or movies through the speakers, I’d maybe look elsewhere.

Solid Mid-Range Choice
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Dell Inspiron 7440 2-in-1 14 is a solid, mid-range choice for home or office. The construction, typical Dell, is excellent with an all aluminum frame and a nice, solid feeling keyboard deck that doesn't flex under your wrists. The keyboard is a compact, chiclet style keyboard that seems standard on laptops these days, but the tactile feedback is very good. The keys are full sized, nicely spaced and backlit, but there is no numeric keypad. Typing on it is very fast. One nice touch, the function keys do double duty and can be set as either 'F' keys or media control keys by default. The 2-in-1 comes from the 350 degree hinge, which allows you to use it in laptop, tent, or tablet configuration, although at 3.5 lbs, it makes for a heavy tablet. The 14 inch WVA (Dell speak for IPS Wide Viewing Angle) display is very sharp and bright with excellent color saturation and depth. Very comfortable viewing, with a small bezel, but not an edge to edge screen. The resolution is FHD+, 1920x1200, which makes the display slightly more square and allows a little extra length for documents, spread sheets, and so forth to be displayed. For videos, you probably won't notice any difference, but if you use this laptop for anything office you'll appreciate the extra display length. I did use it with a e-stylus in tablet mode, which worked well for sketching, although it's too heavy for sustained hand held note taking. Out of the box, you get a USB-c AC adapter and power cord, the 2-in-1, and the ubiquitous safety information. Unlike other Dell laptops I've used, opening the lid did not turn it on. Turning it on required pressing the power/fingerprint scanner. After the Windows 11 install, configure and update session, you're ready to rock and roll. I was a little disappointed that the webcam didn't support Windows Hello, but swiping the fingerprint scanner was easy enough and certainly faster than a password or pin. With an Intel Core 5 (120u) and 16GB of ddr5 memory, the 7440 was quite zippy handling word processing, spreadsheets, and email, even large spreadsheets and documents. Web browsing and videos were similarly snappy. Even light gaming (Diablo 4 at low video settings) was acceptable. I did try some photo retouch and complex drawing, which was also surprisingly doable. The 7440 did bog down a bit when I tried to do some rather complicated video editing, but that's to be expected. All in all, pretty surprising performace. I was able to go a full day on a single battery charge, so I think the spec'ed battery life of 8-10 hours is probably reasonable. One note, the speakers were adequate for Zoom, but a bit weak for watching a movie or video; a Bluetooth speaker or headset is a better choice. There are two USB-c 3.2/displayPort connectors, 2 USB-A connectors and a HDMI port, so no lack of connectors. Either USB-c port can be used for charging the laptop. There is the ubiquitous mini-jack for audio and a slot for a micro-sd card. Bluetooth 6.0 and WiFi 6AXe provide wireless connectivity Overall, the Dell Inspiron 7440 2-in-1 (Intel Core 5) is a solid performer, well built, and should last a long time. It's a good value, especially on sale. It should definitely be on your short list if you are considering a home office laptop.

Perfect Daily Driver Laptop for School and the Off
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me say this is a great daily driver of a laptop for media consumption, office/school work. The CPU/Memory are a perfect combo and even had no issues with some light gaming on it. The fact the screen is a touch-screen and rotates makes a perfect for media consumption, or using as a tablet. For my useage the touch screen reacted fine and I had no problem browsing my internal media server to watch movies or read reciepes as I used it in the kitchen. It has two USB-C Displayport out an HDMI connection, SD Card (not micro, but an adapter works fine) and two USB-A with a headphone jack, so for a slimish laptop you should be able to connect what you need without issue. The battery life is more then adequate for me, allowing me to use it for a few hours without issue or any noticable performance hit, so that is great. The only downside is it has Windows 11 24H2, and I fault Microsoft for the process. In starting up to connect and log in it took 3 reboots and 30 minutes, so when you get it, make sure you have internet and sometime, gone are the old days where it boots up, and you are logged in 10 minutes, now you have a few reboots and have to hit next, before you can connect. However once setup I didn't seem to have any issues. So just note the first startup priocess will be a bit longer then needs be. Otherwise if you need a solid laptop, then this wopuld make a good choice.
