    Excellent Mid-Range Gaming Computer

With a crisp, clear display, a backlit keyboard, decent sound supplemented by a small subwoofer, and an NVIDIA 10-series discrete graphics card, this laptop can handle the needs of most gamers on a budget. Older games run fine on top settings. Newer games hold up fairly well on mid-range settings. Definitely worth the cost.

Not Worth the Price! Dell=Horrid Customer Service

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased this laptop because I need a good laptop with a dedicated graphics cards for a reasonable price. This laptop was recommended to me by the Best Buy associate as having what I needed and being the 'best bang for my buck'. I do not do any gaming on this, so I can't speak to that aspect, but I do a lot of graphics and work on Photoshop on a regular basis. My one star review is NOT based on the Best Buy sales experience, it is due to my dealings with Dell itself. I've had this laptop less than 6 months, within the first 2 weeks after purchase, I already had my first set of problems when the laptop would stay on a blue screen. Because it was still under store warranty, Best Buy Geek Squad was able to repair it. It was told to me that, though it was new to me, it could have been on the shelf so long it required software updates to get it functioning again. I lost some of my work and it took the Geek Squad over 2 weeks to get it back to me (which is a long time for me to be without my laptop), although frustrating, I could still deal with that. A month later -- again, more problems (this was not due to user negligence and I had full virus protection), still could not get the laptop to turn on properly or kept crashing after short intervals. Back to Geek Squad again, this time they had to do a full restore, losing all the work I had not backed up & had to be without the laptop for another 2 weeks (it had been in the shop longer total time than I had it in my possession). Less than 6 months later, here we are again with more problems. This time was not software (although my system nearly crashed again, though that was worked out so far). The problem is with the battery charger cable that came with the laptop. The part of the cord near where it gets inserted into the charging port has unattached exposing the interior wiring, (again this is not due to any misuse) and I receive a continual warning window that the charger is not recognized & I need to use the charger that came with my computer (this IS the one that came with it)! After taking it back to Best Buy now a 3rd time, I was told the parts are covered under manufacturer warranty and not the store warranty. I then contacted Dell, and after several contacts, sending photo's of the problem and spending countless hours getting transferred to 5 different departments, I am told that the part is NOT covered by warranty (there is no reason it should not be covered). Wasting my time and patience as well as money! I was told by the Dell representative I could purchase a new charger for nearly $90 -- not only should this be fully covered by the Dell Warranty, I can get a universal charger back at Best Buy for far less than the Dell price. As a side note about the laptop itself, the sturdiness of the hinges attaching the screen to keyboard are questionable. I have to be very cautious when moving the laptop with the screen open, because the hinges don't feel like they will have much longevity. Also, the screen display color is not the most natural. Not significant if your are just using for gaming and general use, but for anyone like me who is using it for photo's and graphics work and accurate coloring is important, this is not the best option. I am extremely disappointed with Dell's lack of quality, customer service, disorganization, unprofessionalism and not abiding by their own warranty. They have permanently lost myself and my family as a customer (over a stupid charger cable Dell could've and should've easily replaced).

I got a brand new one for Thanksgiving and after pressing the power button, the first screen is a blue screen error. This repeated 4 times in a day. Returned the device and got a new one of the same model today. Error repeats. Maybe Dell should recall this product.

I have to return this Laptop after 7 days as it starts switching itself off with no reason. Took this out of US for my daughter present and I have to send this back. The quality was not as good as a DELL machine. Purchased the HP OMEN with same spec instead. Thank you BESTBUY for a quick return and refund.

It was amazing for the first month but since i left college for my summer break, i have had nothing but problems. For the past 2 months i have gotten upwards of 70 BSODs and i have called Dell to attempt to fix it 3 different times and it still occured. I have even sent the laptop in and was without it for 2 weeks, they "claimed" to "fix it" but the same BSOD happened when i opened it. Now that i have asked for a refund or even a replacement, they refuse because its past 30 days, even though this is a problem out of my control and i did not cause this. Now i am stuck with this laptop and cannot buy another any time soon because all money is going to my college tuition. I would avoid any dell products honestly and look at different brands, if i can any time soon i will get the new lenovo gaming laptops. Again DO NOT BUY THIS LAPTOP.

Potential to be a Great Gaming Laptop.

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I was very excited about this laptop after seeing its price tag ($800) and seeing the specs that came with the laptop. However, this laptop is flawed and is a very big disappointment. After turning it on for the first time, I setup the PC as normal, and installed some updates that were needed for the system. Within two hours, the updates failed to install and I got a BSOD. I was very frustrated and in disbelief; a brand-new laptop, and I already got a BSOD. The next day, I got TWO more BSOD. Very disappointing. The hard drive is sub-par, I assume a 5400 RPM HDD. The disk was constantly at 100% usage, bogging the computer down, almost to the point where it wouldn't respond. Although it is a HDD and not a SSD, it's sad. This CPU has the potential to be a great laptop, but for right now, it's far from decent.

Guess I just got a lemon

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this laptop at my local best buy store, "brand new" on Tuesday, and was so excited to be able to game with it. Unfortunately, straight out of the box, it's been nothing but a headache. It constantly runs at 100% disk usage for some unknown reason. After googling the cause of this and not being able to reduce the usage on my own, I called support. I spent an hour and a half on the phone with them, only to be basically shushed at the end by the tech when I kept trying to tell him everything we were trying wasn't working, making it seem like he just wanted to get off the call. On top of the disk usage never going down, it also wouldn't stay connected to my wifi whatsoever, always dipping and losing signal when it was working fine on all other devices. Because of this, it made it impossible to do the updates to windows (that I was hoping was the problem for the disk usage). After 3 whole days of trying to figure out the issue, I've finally had enough, and will be returning this laptop first thing tomorrow morning.

I bought this computer in August/September of 2017, and in January I began experiencing multiple 'blue screen' errors of 'UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION'. The laptop seemed good for me, its price is nice. I bought it, it stayed pretty well for a week, and then, the HDD kept at 100%. I have reinstalled Windows a couple of times, it works for a day and then the same, 100% disk usage. Unuseful to have some power in all components if the HDD is not at the level.
