    Garbage

Wifi card is garbage, I would love to update it, but wait, it restarts and asks me to do it again. The screen is great, when it sleeps it gets some good grey lines through it. It has some major stutter in anything.

BSOD was the straw that broke the camels back

So I was looking for a laptop to “just get the job done”. Wasn’t planning on doing any that needed any serious power, and this has decent specs for a great price, $200 off. I read the worst reviews, just to see what issues it had, and saw a few mention immediately running into the blue screen of death. So I prepared and started updating my drivers, etc as soon as I got it out of the box, and as soon as I opened the internet - BSOD. Reset the computer and same thing... it’s not worth the hassle. Probably going to return and stick to my desktop and invest in a powerful laptop down the road. It’s a decent laptop, but it needs some TLC first. Also the screen isnt the best.

      3. Under the Source column, look for Windows and under Summary, look for Shut down unexpectedly.
      4. Right-click the line item and select Check for a solution.

I really wanted to like this computer...

If it's too good to be true...This computer had everything I wanted and more than I could ask for. The problem is an error message pops up on a blue screen saying "There is an error and the computer needs to reboot." Right out of the box within 1 hour I saw this message 10 times...10. I unhooked it, took it back and exchanged it for a brand new one. Yup, same exact thing. Trying to get online it would cycle for 2 mintues and then this blue screen error would appear. It looks to be some kind of software issue which I'm not willing to wait 2 weeks for them to figure out. This Dell was a major disappointment...I'm returning this and paying an extra $400 for an Asus rog or stixx or whatever they're called just to avoid these error problems. Was it just me? Did more research and spoke to the Geek Squad in 3 different stores in CA and wouldn't you know, 10 Dell Inspirion Gaming laptops returned within the first week of purchase. Avoid this computer like the Plague...I really wanted to like it with all the positive reviews here and on youtube, but errors right out of the box within the first hour? Nope, not gonna suffer through this.

Adequate, but has caveats with SATA cable

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Not bad when not installing a second SATA drive, as mine came with a 256GB (slow) Toshiba m.2 card. There is a major issue with the SATA cable for the 2.5" drive. It is a ribbon cable and does not connect well to the main board. There is not enough slack on this thin cable and it will come out of the connector on the main board if you are not carefull. The cable is a dual layer and there is a very thin separator on the contact pads. The 2.5 hdd is seen in bios, but fails to recognize the drive in windows. Will either have this repaired or returned.

Laptop shipped without a power supply

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is more of a review of Best Buy/Dell customer service then it is about the laptop itself. I purchased this as a graduation gift and it was only available online (not in stores). The product arrived without a power supply in the box. I contacted Best Buy via chat and they opened up a case for the issue. I was told by the chat rep to visit a local Best Buy store for resolution. I went to 2 different Best Buy stores and neither could help because they did not stock this particular model. One of the stores tried an off-the-shelf power supply, but it did not work because this is a gaming laptop and requires a 130w supply. The next day I contacted Best Buy again via chat and related the situation from the store visits and was told that nothing could be done online for resolution and to visit a local store again to exchange for another model. I also contacted Dell, but they would only sell me a power supply for $90. The bottom line is, be wary of ordering a Best Buy product that is not stocked locally and if the box was packed at Dell, you might want to reconsider Dell products.

    Slow, freezes, lags, unacceptable

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Purchased this 3/2018. Out of the box it has issues. Actually, the display mode in stores had issues! I should have known better from that, but thought it was just an issue with the display model. Just like in Ryeloc's review, I have the same issues: right clicking desktop freezes mouse, clicking on windows or apps in general makes the pc freeze, etc etc. Idk if this is an issue with Windows 10 as I'm used to Windows 7, but too many issues. The file explorer icon on the taskbar takes 4-10 seconds to open - just to see your files and folders! Per Ryeloc's suggestion, it seems that disabling the Intel HD Graphics 630 in Device Manager helps a tiny bit, but not nearly enough and it will mess up your display and ability to adjust brightness. I tried updating Windows, updating all drivers, disabling Cortana, etc, but it's a lost cause. I'm astonished by the positive reviews, maybe this is just an issue with the new Windows 10 updates or something. Please avoid this laptop, no one should have to waste their time hacking a brand new pc with these specs to try to get it to stop freezing!

drez, Thanks for your review and for your insight into the issues that you're having. If you have not done so already we'd recommend running Dell's Support Assist App that comes installed on your computer. We know that you said you've installed all of the updates on your computer but this app will ensure that you are running the most up to date software and drivers on your computer. If you continue to experience issues with your computer freezing, we'd recommend the following:
      1. Run a Computer Diagnostic. To determine if your computer is experiencing a hardware problem, run the Dell Preboot System Assessment (PSA) Diagnostics. For information on how to run Diagnostics, and to determine the issue, refer to Dell Knowledge Base Article: http://dell.to/2iaiujA.
      2. Check Safe Mode for Symptoms. To boot into safe mode, please follow the instructions below:
      1) Start the computer.
      2) Tap 'F8' on the keyboard immediately and every one second until the Dell logo screen disappears. From there you will see the Windows Advanced Options Menu on the screen. (If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, restart the system and try again.)
      3) Select Safe mode with Networking and press Enter.
      4) Log on as the administrator or as a user with administrative access.
      5) Open applications and test the computer in safe mode. If the symptoms exist in safe mode, please continue the troubleshooting steps in this article. If the symptoms do not exist in safe mode, the issue is likely related to a driver or software and you may wish to complete steps 6 and 7 to see if you are able to resolve the lock ups or freezing.
      3. Check for Malware. Malware (Virus, Spyware, etc.) can definitely cause a Windows system to lock up or appear to hang. To check for malware on your system and to ensure that your computer is up to date on security software, visit Dell Knowledge Base Article: http://dell.to/2wWP1zI.

    BSOD Immediatly

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Unless you are tech savvy and just enjoy troubleshooting driver issues on a brand new notebook, I suggest you skip this model. You may want to skip dell all together. You will experience a BSOD immediatly upon booting when Corona tried to have you set up a network. If you decide to buy it. There is a driver update for intels network card on dell's web site that supposedly fixes the IRQL errors that are causing the BSOD.

Just bought mines yestarday. Everything was working fine. 10 minutes later I grab the latop with one hand by the screen and one hand on the bottom and it shut off on it own.. The only way it turns on and stays on is if i put pressure on the monitor from the top other than that once pressure is gone it turns off.. Power button does nothing with out pressure on the monitor.
