i hate windows 10
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.so far only on the 2nd day of owning this but its running ok if you previously only ran windows 7 as your highest os, then 10 is going to drive you nuts with EVERYTHING different and confusing. first thing i did was uninstall everything that came with the computer that ill prob never need. and then i installed "classic shell" which makes the windows start menu look like classic windows. then i researched how to turn off every single stupid feature window10 has that ill never use in my life. a stupid voice companion, notification popups, picture everything you dont want in a computer and windows 10 has it. you might want to debate on grabbing a windows 7 disk if you use this computer for actual work because i have to use google to find anything on this computer as for the laptop itself it seems ok. the keyboard seems smaller then my last so i miss alot of letters. all the display models were broke or had broke cursor pads which worried me that i hope mine dont break. every person at best buy kept trying to force me to buy a hp or lenovo. which are junk computers. i heard dell is used by alien so i went with dell. this model was sold out at most bestbuys and had a great review star on it so i knew this was the one i wanted to try. also get the 8g ram not the 4g ram, itll really make a difference if you browse alot of stuff and have alot of stuff open. i looked up its specs for gaming and most gaming sites kinda dont really recomend it for strong gaming once you completely strip the computer down into trying to work as good as windows7 and earlier and get rid of unneeded programs it seems to be less annoying and ugh liveable to use. it says it has a touch screen but i dunno how to use it or if it even has it at this point. then again im 36 and more use to using computers for actual work and not all this useless apps that kids use now a days. oh and the only oother thing i dont like is the power cord, it sticks straight out instead of a L which means if you trip over this thing im pretty sure its going to snap right inside your laptop. even as i sit the laptop on my lap to type there seems to be a bit of pressure on the cord that worries me

Very good Laptop for the value!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a laptop tech and bought this for a specific use in my business. This was a choice purchase, not a need. My first impressions after having it a couple of weeks is not as well built as years ago, but for today's budget device, it's not awful. I do miss the mouse buttons on the touch pad, and this pad seems a bit light duty. The keyboard has a decent feel, and the keys are responsive as is the touch screen. As for the screen clarity, it's crisp and does seem to offer privacy from side viewing angles which would be preferred if in a public place. The appearance of the laptop is also pleasant, and I personally like the texture which is quite different than what I am used to. The webcam is ok, but not anything spectacular. Battery life is also respectable. Unit weight is also not bad and easy to handle. Again, if you need a nicely equipped system on a budget, then I think this is an excellent choice!

That Touchpad
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros Nice touchscreen, good click and drag. Nice keyboard, easy to type with. Cons Awful touchpad* distinct inside edge, wears ones wrists/forearm raw with the edge. The touchpad is the worst part, the click and right-click is part of the touchpad so clicking the left bottom corner is the click, and the right bottom corner is the right-click. The click is very audible, and living with a bunch of bat-eared people means I can wake the person sleeping nearby by simply Clicking. Which is why I was glad at first for the ability to tap the touchpad to click(two finger tap to right-click). That was before I figured out that it only works intermittently. Even with the settings on No-delay for the touchpad click, the touchpad randoms decides that I'm not trying to click, and ignores my tap. Its like when you connect to a low-speed internet and try to load a page just to get to different page. Frustrating. The touchpad is my only angst. The rest of the laptop is fine. The screen is nice with a good range of adjustable brightness, the fans are quiet, and overall, the laptop does not heat up while being used for, even after five hours of use. But man, that touchpad.

Great basic for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed a quick replacement when my five year old laptop finally bit the dust. I didn't want to spend a lot of money, so this is what I landed on. It's perfect for what I use it for, just basic net browsing and work. Runs Netflix and Youtube smoothly. I've only used the touch screen once to test it out, so I can't say much about it since I doubt I'll use it much. The slightly textured feel of the casing is something I didn't notice in the pics, but it's a nice subtle detail. I wish the processor was a TINY bit faster, but for the price I don't mind it to much. The only thing I've really had to adjust to is the trackpad isn't as sensitive as my last laptop, but still no big deal after a day or two of using. This a great little machine for basic needs.

Best inexpensive laptop around
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sure, I'd like to have a machine with an I7, great graphics card, 32 gig of memory … but I have a budget. My last machine started having issues and I needed a new inexpensive replacement. And I found one that is fast enough for normal tasks, whether internet related, playing video fullscreen, or running OpenOffice. And it has a touchscreen! I love the touchscreen. It is wonderful with Windows 10. The 8 GB of RAM is enough to run multiple programs simultaneously. and the terabype hard drive is enough for everything except large quantities of video. I would rate this as not just an entry level machine, but one good for everything except modern gaming or the heaviest of work streams.

wonderful laptop for a beginner
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.this laptop is fast, likely due to the eight gigs of ram, and it has sooo much space. it's perfect, the set up only took around twenty minutes (as compared to another reviews 7 hours, which was quite disconcerting), cortana is helpful, and it can get all basic tasks done quickly. it's a windows computer so windows 10 should be expected and not a fault. the only reason i give this a 4 is because the laptop tends to heat up rather quickly and i can't keep it on my lap for very long because of the heating sensation, and the fans are very noticeable when the laptop has gotten to that point (and it gets to that point fairly easily). other than that, though, it's amazing. i purchased this laptop when it was on sale and bought an open box that cost $318, and for all of the specs and the fact that it has a touch screen and delightful screen size, it seems to be more than worth it. my brother purchased a cheaper lenovo for the same price and likes this laptop much more! as a new college student, this definitely fulfills all of my needs and more.

Good company laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a nice laptop. But it can be very slow when you first get this computer it takes forever to load but that is from the microsoft and dell junk ware. The junk this is installed with will slow this thing to an unusable state. If you remove all of the junk ware from dell you will boot and shut down alot faster and this computer will run allround better.

Great Value Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking for something basic, that would allow me to run office, browse the web, watch movies, and check email. If you set this laptop up correctly (remove the Dell Bloatware, use Avast instead of the included McAfee, Chrome instead of Edge) this laptop will run great! After all of the updating was finished, mine will go from power button to booted up and logged on in under a minute. It will run Asphalt 8(included) but I don't think the integrated graphics with i3 processor will handle any graphics intensive games.

Get what you pay for
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. On sale, this seemed like a good deal for an 8GB laptop with a touch screen. Not the fastest processor but I don't need a lot. Setup was easy but updating Windows10 took 5 attempts and several hours. After that, it worked good for a while but seemed to get slower each time I used it. After two weeks, it would take 10 minutes to boot up or shut down until it finally crashed for good. Now there is no hard drive detected and it won't boot. Took it back, technician confirmed a hard drive failure. Could have exchanged it but opted for a refund and will look for something else.

Posted .Hello nativegem - We're sorry to hear that you're disappointed with the sharpness and brightness of your new computer. Here is some information about Adaptive Screen Brightness which may be what you are experiencing: Windows can adjust the brightness of the display based on how much light is reaching the system's ambient light sensor. This feature is referred to as 'adaptive brightness' and it can be disabled in Windows. Here are some steps to adjust this feature:
1. In the Search box, type Settings.
2. Touch or click Settings (Modern application).
3. Touch or click System.
4. On the Display screen find the Adjust my screen brightness automatically option.
5. Touch or click the slider to toggle the option on or off.
6. Touch or click Apply.
7. Close the System window.

Don't waste your money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This PC worked ok for a few months and then the charging port stopped working all together. I got several error like "plugged in - not charging" and "AC adapter not recognized". Contacted Dell and they walked me through some troubleshooting (hey so far, so good!) like updating BIOS etc when that didn't work they customer service team said ok, known issue, send it in and we will fix it (loving the customer service.. wow) and THEN once it got there they said it would cost $350.00 to repair a KNOWN ISSUE with this PC since it was not in warranty (NOTE my PC was less than a year old so it should have been covered., also note this was an in house only pc so not a lot of wear and tear like you would have for a work pc that is continually travelling). So now I am either chained to the charger, or have a very expensive paper weight. Look up the issue as it is all over any search engine you put it in. Find another computer unless you want to pay $500 for a temporary (at best) pc or want to spend your life savings continually fixing this issue.
