Writing this because as the other reviewer mentioned, this is a new product so there were no reviews when I purchased (and like mattresses tough to compare anywhere as they are all just a little bit different . . .) Anyway, was just looking to just replace old Toshiba laptop that was 6-7 years old that basically whole family uses for school projects, internet, pictures, videos - nothing overly demanding like extreme gaming, etc. - just what I would call normal use.
Spent a lot of time looking at laptops at Best Buy - initially because I wanted to be able to just pick up and not have to wait by ordering - but even eventually expanding research to include Amazon etc, I liked this laptop best for the $$. At BB, this laptop essentially amounts the top end of the lower tier laptops, however, considering that to get to the next tier of laptops you are in for another $150-$200, in my non-professional opinion it just did not seem worth it.
While just my layman's comparison, this laptop shares many of the same features as the middle tier models, including the same i5 intel chipset quite a few of them have. I would think that this laptop is plenty fast for most people, but obviously it depends on what you are used to.
It also has a touch screen, DVD burner, and bluetooth - all of which I wanted - and overall looks sharp, including a well laid out keyboard.
In the end, the way I look at computers these days is that they practically age in dog years, meaning that the shelf life of any computer declines rapidly no matter how much you pay. As such, for my purposes anyway, this one more than fits the bill without going too crazy cost-wise. Overall, after owning about a week have been very pleased.

Not happy with laptop. Very slow to boot up. Can't switch between applications quickly. Seems like internet browsers are constantly fighting with each other and freezing up. For being a Dell and I5 I am very disappointed.

I have been very disappointed with this Dell product. Within the first 30 days it stopped booting up. I took it to Geek Squad at Best Buy and they determined that it had to be returned to Dell factory for repair.

I can't comment on the operation of it, I never got past the initial opening. This computer felt like I bought it in 2001. It was very thick, and was just bulky. I returned it for a much smaller one.

I did my research, read the reviews and was informed that this would be a good purchase. Had problems from the get go, I should have taken it right back to the store, but I went through warranty through Dell and they had to Fix practically everything internally from the speakers to the hard drive. Very disappointed and now the original charging cable is not being recognized by the computer. Not wasting my time with Dell ever again.

Beware of this laptop

I have no idea why this laptop had good reviews, because it's been horrible. I bought two of these, and they BOTH died within less than 5 months. They were taken care of extremely well and there should have been no reason for these things to happen. The motherboards went out in them for no reason. The batteries died and stopped working. So many problems. They were nice at first, but they will not last. Dell has really gone downhill on the quality of their products.

Has issues with not opening to main screen when turned on. Apparently this is a problem with this Dell model when I looked it up on line.

I've only had the computer for a few days and everything seems fine. Mostly I decided to review the computer because when I wanted to read the reviews, there were none. Also, I didn't see anywhere that the laptop comes with a DVD drive and I thought that I should mention that it does. I was very happy that it has a backlit keyboard and touch screen also. To me it seemed like the best machine for the money.

I have constantly experienced ghost typing. Called geek squad to see if they could resolve but still does the same thing. Can't type a sentence without it jumping all over the place and having to correct it. No viruses, etc. Terrible computer.

Touch on a standard hinge laptop is a waste. This Dell disappointed me more that one I bought and returned in 2003. So this one got returned. When you hold your hands in typing position about the keyboard, the unit goes crazy.
