Nice Laptop at a Good Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this laptop on 2/21 and I'm reviewing it on 2/26. I have been testing out lots of different laptops(asus q501la, surface pro 3, macbook air) and this is the one I'm going to keep. When I went to bestbuy to purchase a laptop, I originally intended to get a Macbook Air 13. My wife got one a few months ago and I have been coveting it ever since. However before I purchased I looked around and found this dell. For the price I really feel like this is the better machine. There are a few areas where the Macbook wins: solid state storage, OSX operating system(hopefully windows 10 is good), and the track pad, and possibly the keyboard. Everything else is better on this Dell. More ram(8gb vs 4), Newer intel processor and the dell has an I7 vs the air's I5 at a lower price, higher resolution screen and more importantly IPS(better viewing angles). I cant say enough how much better the screen is. The other posters mention the text being blurry, this is because of the way windows handles high resolution screens and can be fixed in the display settings. I'm not really a fan of touch screens on laptops but this has it and the ability to go into "tablet mode". This laptop is fast, well built, and it has the latest technologies available. (touch screen, newest intel processors, AC wifi, bluetooth 4.0). I did notice someone mentioned the "light bleed" on the screen. I have this issue on my laptop but it is only noticeable when the laptop is starting up with an all black screen and the dell logo showing. I cannot see it when using the laptop with it fully booted up. This is a very common issue with just about any lcd screen. If you want a fast, well built windows machine with a nice screen, this is the one to get.

Outstanding things can come in small packages!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.WEBCAM NOTE: The description says NO WEBCAM - that is NOT correct - it does indeed have an integrated webcam that DOES work! I initially picked up an ASUS Flip w/ 5th generation i7. It was a solid laptop, all metal, but heavy and slippery because of the weight and metal chassis. I almost dropped it twice the first day I brought it to work! SO, I exchanged for one of these little gems! Performance - 5 stars - surprisingly much more zippy than the aforementioned ASUS, which had the same CPU, same amount of RAM and same sized HDD. The screen - 5 stars - FANTASTIC. Very happy with it! Colors are vibrant and if you turn off the adaptive brightness control (I *REALLY* hate that feature which is turned on by default!) it has exceptionally good brightness and clarity! The construction and weight - 5 stars - the outside is some kind of rubberized plastic - great for those of us who have buttery-soft hands that things like to slip out of ! This has a great feel in the hands and won't slip out. The deck which houses the keyboard and touchpad is aluminum w/ laser-cut edges which gives it a very high-class look. It doesn't look OR feel cheap like the consumer-grade Dell laptops did 5 years ago which were made of some hard, easy to break glossy plastic - this really does feel like a high-end Dell XPS system. The weight is around 3.5 pounds - it's nice and light. Keyboard - 5 stars - the keyboard is backlit w/ black keys and even though the key travel isn't very deep, it surprised me with how comfortable it was to type on. I was also shocked how I'm not missing the numeric keypad. Sound - 4.5 stars - Although you're not going to be using this laptop to blast the music for your next tailgate party, the sound is very rich for a system of this size and can easily fill a room. Touchpad - 4 stars - this is my only real gripe, and it's really not a big gripe. The touchpad functions great, but Dell did something really out of sorts for them (or any other OEM!) - they went with Windows default drivers for the touchpad. Not even on their website are drivers for the touchpad. The touchpad by default is scrolling backwards from what most of us are used to, so I had to change that in the Windows settings. I also did some checking around and can't find out who made the touchpad so I can put the correct drivers on (ALPS? Synaptics? Someone else?) Bundled Software (AKA Bloatware) - 4.5 stars - it comes with McAfee LiveSafe Internet Security turned on out of the box. I haven't used a McAfee product in many years, so I'm not sure how I feel about that. I'll give it some time - if I don't like it , it can always be removed and replaced with something else. It also gives you the OPTION to download and install FastAccess Facial Recognition and Nuance Dragon Assistant via the Dell Digital Delivery app. I personally don't care to have either of those on my system, so, I simply told it not to download, but you do have the option to do it at a later time. Why can't more manufacturers give you the option to download IF YOU WANT instead of deciding that you want it on your system for you? 2-in-1 mode - 5 stars - I personally won't use tablet mode much, but tent mode is nice for using the machine as a second TV or for Netflix. The hinge is nice and firm, holding the screen where I put it and staying set. All in all, overall score , 4.71 stars - OUTSTANDING!!! - good enough for 5 stars on the Best Buy Website! OH YES - and THANK YOU Best Buy for making the exchange process so easy!

Ups and Downs
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted a small laptop that was easy to travel with and that I could watch movies on when traveling long distances. I chose this laptop, because I didn't want to spend the extra money for a Spectre x360. In my opinion, both companies make good products, but this laptop was cheaper and met all my requirements. Here are the pros/cons: Pros: 1. Small 2. Performs computing operations very fast 3. All the bells and whistles (back-lit keyboard, multiple USB ports, convertible design, touch-screen, etc.) 4. 45W battery charger means less power to charge and never run into issues like you would with some larger laptops that have over 90W power chargers not working with aircraft power ports. 5. Price Cons: 1. Battery life (I turn off the back-lit keyboard when not using and unistalled what little bloatware there was on the OS, to no avail). 2. Hard Drive (I believe, anyway) is the culprit of some subtle, yet very annoying clicking noise. I thought it was the fan, but even when the fan is not running (you can hear it, but it isn't obnoxiously loud), you can still hear the clicking noise. Clicking may not be the best descriptor, but it isn't loud or strange enough to warrant Geek Squad/Dell support, just loud enough to hear and be annoying. Maybe switching to a SSD would resolve this. 3. Weight - It is relatively light for a laptop, generally speaking, but really heavy to use as a tablet. I would recommend comparing weights of 2-in-1 laptops prior to purchasing any of them, if this could potentially be a big deal for you. It doesn't really bother me, but Dell could have definitely made it lighter. 4. No CD-ROM drive. To be honest, most of the small laptops don't offer this, but if you are transitioning from a larger laptop to this, just beware that there isn't a CD-ROM drive, mainly because there really isn't anywhere to put one. Sorry this review was so long, but I hope it helps you in your buying process.

Love this laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had a 15 inch.. too big for travel... Had an 11 inch... Just a bit too small for my eyesight... Feel like Goldilocks, This size is just right! Love lighted keyboard, touch screen and battery life. It runs a little hot when I play games for over an hour. Get a cool pad. But the speed is awesome! Screen refreshes seamlessly on my facebook games. Runs all streaming video flawlessly. Thinking a previous review had a software problem. My only issue is not with this computer, but with software. Since it is partially a tablet, I would like to be able to get Tablet apps. Waiting for a good crossover program. Found a few programs that still won't run my Xfinity download to have movies or shows to watch while traveling. But This laptop Rocks!

Small Computer, Great Power!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My church got this computer for our Multi Media Team. We use it mainly for video editing and uploading final edit videos. This powerful computer handles all tasks assigned to it with ease. We had not heard about Wireless ac before we got this little baby, but we would soon find out how fast our tasks could be accomplished using the faster wi fi options. What used to take us several hours to upload a video was now taking only 30 minutes. Your mileage may vary but we upload about 5 gig files every week and this saves us so much time. Having the 5th generation i7 core prcessor also saves time in the rendering process after editing. All told what used to take us 6 to 7 hours to do was reduced to about 90 minutes. As we all know Time is money and therefore this little Gem has proved to be a money and time saver! We welcome it to our family and Hope others may adopt it into theirs as well!

Looks good and feels good to use
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've put this Dell 2 in 1 through some paces and have a couple things to say about it. The cover, the keyboard, and the display are 100% satisfying. The cover is not a smooth polish of a metal or plastic, but rather a tactile, rubbery thing (not soft tho) that looks and feels great. The keyboard is backlit and they keys have the perfect amount of clicky travel that makes typing comfortable. The display is bright and crisp with very good sRBG coverage. The touchscreen is very responsive. A couple not so great things are the finicky trackpad that is going to take some getting used to, and even though the display is bright and clear, the resolution is high enough to make running Photoshop CC a little difficult because a high resolution on a 13.3" display makes the menus and panels of the PS interface small. That's a trade-off with no way to compromise as far as I can tell, even though there is a rudimentary solution within PS to double its display size but that takes it too far the other way. The last shortcoming with this laptop is trade-off of cost vs performance - I chose this unit despite the lack of an SSD because I can upgrade. Processing speed and memory are frequently not upgradeable and I wanted an i7, at least 8 GB of memory, and a great display, leaving one of the few compromises the conventional hard drive because on this machine it is upgradeable. One other compromise is the weight - this is a little heavier than my ideal laptop would be. The battery life is what it is - I'm not going to complain about it. That technology isn't great for most portables with specs like this one. from what I've found. Fortunately for me, I can use this laptop plugged in much of the time. Lastly, I was surprised that this laptop has an integrated webcam because the description says it does not. Nice to have if I ever want it. Also, some web reviews cover a slightly different machine that has a stored stylus - mine does not. Would have been nice, but oh well.

You get what you pay for! :)
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm a long time dell user but wanted to try something different for my small business computer. I originally bought the Lenovo Yoga 2 and couldn't STAND the loud fan noise. So, I brought that back and knew I should have gone with my gut and gotten this Dell. Did an exchange, SAVED money! Now I have all the things the Lenovo did, sans loud fan! I love the fact that you can bend it all the way back for tablet use!

Good, Strong, Fast computing Power!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have almost had the computer for a week. I have no problem with it getting hot, and it does make a computing sound, but It's not so loud that someone would notice in a quiet classroom or in a library. It's not loud. It does make a small sound, but it is not loud at all. Geek Squad helped me configure the computer so that it had the fastest startup possible, and now it runs like a charm: fast, efficient, no waits, from power button to ready-to-use in like 10 seconds. I got this computer wanting it to perform like a mac, but I got this instead of a mac because I wanted to customize the computer more than you can a mac. (And I am happy with the performance!) I love the touch screen (although it's not one that you can write on with a stylus. works best with your finger.) I love the transformations - like the tablet, the tent, etc. A mac can't do that! This computer has good, strong, fast computing power, packed into a small laptop! (This was the only 13.3inch I could find with the i7, 1TB, 8GB)

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Dell Inspiron 13” Series 7000 2-in-1 Laptop I had problems with my 1st purchase on 05-17-15 at Best Buy in Folsom trying to get the laptop to stay connected to my wireless AT&T Pace 4111N DSL Broadband modem SSID: ATT255. I took the laptop to Geek Squad and they ran over-night diagnostics and it passed all of their tests. I picked up the laptop that morning and took it home and connected it to SSID: ATT255 where it stayed connected for only 30 minutes and would not re-connect after I spent many hours trying all that I knew how to do with Networks in Windows 8.1. The following day I took the laptop back to Best Buy where I discussed my situation with the manager of the computer/laptop section. He said he understood my issues and he would be happy for me to return this unit for another from their shipment which had arrived only that morning. I agreed that this would be best for me so that I could help debug the situation with the help of Geek Squad if I needed them. I took the 2nd new laptop home that morning and connected it to SSID: ATT255 where it stayed connected for 4 hours & 30 minutes before it dis-connected. The 2nd laptop would not re-connect after I again I spent many hours trying all that I knew how to do with Networks in Windows 8.1. The following morning I took the 2nd laptop back to the Geek Squad were they showed me that it connected to their wireless network without any problem at all. We determined that the problem must lie within my AT&T Pace DSL wireless modem. I called AT&T DSL Broadband Support and they went through a detailed series of remote changes to the AT&T DSL wireless modem with my help. I also had my iPad (cellular & Wi-fi) and my Kindle Fire HDX tablet (Wi-fi only) available which never had a problem with Wi-fi connections while using the AT&T Pace DSL wireless modem. After almost 2 hours we finally got the laptop to connect. I then tested the iPad and Kindle and saw that they stayed connected to wireless also. The AT&T tech said that IF the laptop dis-connected from the newly configured modem but the other devices remained connected, then I should replace the modem. I thanked him for his excellent help. 30 minutes later the laptop dis-connected from wireless but the other two devices stayed connected!!! So I called AT&T Broadband Support back and they set me up with a home repair requesting a new modem with a savvy network tech for the following day. A new day! The AT&T savvy network tech arrived with an AT&T Netgear 7550 VersaLink DSL modem and great amounts of good energy! He went through the array of equipment consisting of: PC Tower (Ethernet); Dell Inspiron 13” Series 7000 2-in-1 Laptop (USB to Ethernet); iPad (Wi-fi) & Kindle Fire HDX tablet (Wi-fi) like he was a maestro playing a double keyboard pipe organ! The AT&T Service Tech was all-in on fixing my wireless issues with the old Pace modem and within 1-1/2 hours he had everything up and wirelessly connected for all of the above devices capable of Wi-fi, including my wireless printer and Smart TV, using the new Netgear 7550 VersaLink DSL modem. Long story made short...there was never a problem with my 1st or 2nd Dell Inspiron 13” Series 7000 2-in-1 Laptops, it was a modem issue all along!!! I really enjoy my Dell Inspiron 13” Series 7000 2-in-1 Laptop and after all of the hassles I am now acquainted with Windows 8.1 after using the last 28 years of earlier versions of Windows. I give my new Dell Inspiron 13” Series 7000 2-in-1 Laptop and all of the supporting players: Best Buy Sales; Geek Squad; AT&T Remote Support & ServiceTech for solving the Wi-fi connection issue a full 5 STARS *****!

Very Nice and Fast Computer.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I brought this computer about 2 days ago and I'm very happy with my purchase. This I7 2.4 min to 3 gig turbo is very smooth and fast. The keys are perfect and have a very good feel to them. As far as the newer mouse pads I generally don't like them but on this laptop even though the mouse pad is an all in one it's soft and easy to push down and I don't have an issue with it. The screen is also very sharp and I'm very happy with my purchase. Along with the positive I'd like to say there is a little negative. There is only one slot for memory so it runs in single channel mode. to be honest you can't tell the difference except mostly in benchmarks when it comes to the bandwith with single vs dual channel memory mode. I'd like to also see more instructions that come with this. by default when I turned this into tablet mode and in tent position the screen did not rotate. I had to research it on the web. Had they put it in an instruction manual I might have saved a lot of time and anxiety. Last but not least please don't wear a watch when typing on this laptop. Even though you can't see it (if you are not looking for it.# a metal watch band did scratch the edge of my brand new laptop and I'm feeling very sad even though no one would really notice. For sure the good out weigh the bad and I'm very happy with my purchase. When comparing it to my old laptop I can type much easier, the dell mouse pad is easy for me to use. #I don't need a 20 lbs brick to push down on it.) It's super fast has a lot of storage room, looks and feels great Enjoy!

Competitive ultraportable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had this for a few weeks now. Sleek metal finish with backlit key board and coupled with crisp clear hi-res display make for an eyeturner. I was originally looking for a cheaper portable computer, something I can hide in my bag. Instead I got this one! Slim design, just a tad bit on the heavier side, but I take that as a sign of old-school quality. Using it for a few weeks I noticed a lag when using on the powersaver mode (not the same as enhanced battery life mode which appears to be a dell setting). Switching it back to Dell power mode eliminated the lag. I was worried about the single channel ram. But really the DDR3L is a great choice and is only about <3% slower than a dual channel. Battery life is good at about 5 hours on regular use: word, browsing. Video lowers the life as expected. Positives are a great screen, very clear and soft on the eyes. Great blacks and greys. Very high-res. I looked at the macbook air as well but chose this one for windows and word.

Great Little Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is one of the nicest 2 in one laptops Dell has made. Top quality materials and durability. I had the core i5 model but when this came on sale I returned the Core i5 and got this Core i7 model. I do a lot of gaming so the i7 will help.Going to replace the hard drive with an SSD as they only come with the slow 5400rpm HDD.The screen and keyboard are very nice. Especially that the keyboard is lighted and there is also a brightness level control.Even tho this is a 13.3 in laptop it feels like a 11.6 in in size which is very nice. Easy to handle and carry around.Plays all my STEAM games so no lag there. All in all a top notch laptop. There is an $80 off sale now so if you were considering one get it on sale. You won't be disappointed with this little powerhouse.

Keys falling off after a month!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like the screen and the weight and the power, but after 1.5 months, the letters k and the r have fallen off the keyboard, making me fear that I am in for a bad time with this one. I could send it back and wait 2-3 weeks with no computer (ICK) - or Dell could figure out how to glue their keys on better (hint, hint). I also get an intermittent error message that I should use an authentic Dell power cord (which is what I am using). It also will not charge my cell phone effectively, like my old Dell did. I am not impressed!

Just good enough
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is good, not great. It has some light bleed on bottom of screen, and the text clarity is not very good, calibrating the screen, did not help much. But overall, still better than 3 lenovo, 1 Asus that, I returned, due to bad light bleed, and pixel issues. Wish screen was crisper, but, I will keep this laptop. Also web cam has poor quality picture. Purchasing extended, in home warranty from Dell, just in case.

Good Product with some quirks
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like the laptop and it becomes a very usable tablet. The screen and battery life are great. I found some real quirks with some of the features that came with it. I never could get Fast Login to work right and it offered its services at some of the most awkward times. It should be called "Center you face in the box then input your login." I guess the real kicker is the software that controls the track pad. I don't have the dexterity to type on the keyboard and keep my hands off the trackpad so I have always disabled it. On this computer they are determined that I am going to use the track pad. When there was no on/off switch on the track pad I figured I could disable it through software. Disabling it through Windows Device Manager did not phase it at all. I found a Dell utility that can disable the trackpad and it seems to work until there is some update or something. Every three weeks or so I have to go in to the utility and disable the trackpad again. This was tricky at first since the utility shows the trackpad disabled. You have to go in and undisable it and then go back in and disable it again. If I could disable the trackpad once and for all I would gladly move my rating to 4 stars. I would recommend this to a friend who uses the trackpad.
