Excellent computer but has light bleed

The Inspiron 13 2 in 1 is an excellent value and I like it for the most part. I love the fact that the memory is in a slot and can be replaced/upgraded. I like the fact that it comes with an SSD but just fyi it is not a super fast PCIe version but still very good for this price range. My main problem is that the screen casing is not rigid enough and when you move the screen there are ripples in the corners which makes me concerned for durability. But worse than that is mine had a lot of light bleed mostly at the bottom of the screen it is so bad that it ruins the experience of having an excellent 1080p screen especially in tablet mode. So unfortunately if I cannot get Dell to replace the screen this one might be going back. Otherwise if you get one without the light bleed issue then you have a very good computer for the price.

I've only had this computer for a day but so far I'm happy with my selection, my first non-Toshiba computer. Worked right out of the box, if there were driver problems they seem to have been resolved.

    WiFi Connectivity Major Problem

    Posted .

Bought the laptop because it looked nice, good sized and had all the features I was looking for. I was trying to understand why it couldn't detect my wireless router which powered the other wireless items in my home when I noticed the mouse pad had a scratch. Exchanged it for another of the same model. Came home, computer couldn't detect the wireless. Went back to Best Buy, the technician said it simply needed the Windows updates released since its production (may have sat in inventory,) which software he downloaded from the web at the store. Said it would work with any wireless now. Came home, the little wireless icon showed connection for 5-6 min. before switching back to No Connection. Computer simply did not detect my router, again. I went online on my other computer to read customer reviews. And found a lot of complaints specifically related to wifi connectivity with 62% overall satisfaction rating. Best Buy's site somehow shows a higher rating. Will return it. Cost me quite a few hours to deal with the issue, which wasn't resolved at the end. The mouse pad is also over sensitive, reacts to a hovering finger above (this too was mentioned in some of the reviews.)

    Should've bought this one first

I originally went in to buy a 2 in 1 and the sales agent made a different recommendation at my price point. WRONG! -- see 1-star reviews for similar machines. Anyhow, I went back within the 15 day window and exchanged/upgraded to this model. Much better!! I haven't figured out all the tablet-experience adjustments yet, and re-loading all my Outlook stuff was a pain, but the performance so far has been flawless! I don't think anything is really 5 star, but this is a good machine.

    Perfect for my needs

This laptop is perfect for my needs (portability, ability to use MS Office, versatility with tablet / computer combination, touchscreen, etc.). I initially had a wifi issue and contacted Dell. This is a known issue with this model but they guided me through an update, which completely resolved my issue. It was great to speak with a live person on a Sunday night (Dell offers 24/7, 7 days a week customer and technical support). This is my first Dell computer (and first laptop as I own a Sony desktop, which I also love), and I am very happy with my purchase. The Best Buy sales rep was also extremely helpful in guiding me through this decision, including accessories.

It works great, use it with a few games (LoL, ffxiv, etc) and runs fine. Battery life got pretty short pretty quick though.

I purchased this laptop to replace my 17" to make traveling a bit easier. It was on sale at the time, so it was definitely the best for the money. Overall performance is amazing, though I have encountered a few minor glitchy errors.

Going to return for second time in two days. First one got two problem. Wifi was connected up on boot up but lost connection including lost network card in device manager. Trying to update wireless driver using UBS drive. But all three UBS ports did not work. Second unit got different problem. After wifi driver updated from USB drive, wifi is stable and no problem. It was able to complete the set up. After that Dell Update prompt that two update available and I accept update. It was bios update and require to reboot it. But unable to reboot it. It may hang at Power On Test at Dell logo or got screen with ' your pc ran a problem and need to restart. We will restart for you. Whea_uncorrectable_error'. System try to perform self repair and diagnostic and found no bootable image.

    Great Surface Pro Alternative

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is a great small powerful 2 in 1 computer. It boots up almost instantly, runs very fast and is totally silent with the SSD drive. I had it on at my office for 8 hours and it still had battery life with the wifi on, but not using the speakers. It feels good in your hands, a sort of rubber coating and when used as a tablet, it's not as bulky as the larger 2 in 1 screens. It just feels well made and well engineered. I added a USB numeric keypad and a USB LG external Blu ray player to use when I'm away from home. The lighted keyboard is nice with a couple of brightness settings as well as turning it off. I did let the Dell software run and check for updates and it did do a bios update. I have not had any problems and have installed Office 2016, full version Acrobat and other programs which have all run without a hitch.

    WiFi crash

WiFi crashing still a major issue !! I had hoped that the problem had been addressed and fixed as this would meet my company's needs a lot better than the Surface Pro 4s we are currently using. What is even more annoying is when you ask the Best Buy sales person if there had been any issues with the computer so far and they say non at all but the internet is littered with complaints.

I should have heeded the warnings of the reviewers who wrote of wifi connection issues with this laptop. I have decent knowledge of computers & after numerous attempts was not able to get this laptop to stay connected to wifi. There is a major connectivity problem with this laptop. Will be returning it soon. DO NOT BUY this worthless overpriced piece of junk

    Wifi problems

I bought the laptop for general use. After getting it home and booting it, I found the Wifi disconnected after 5 minutes or so and would not reconnect. (This was not a internet router issue as I had Pandora playing on my iMac 5 feet away.) I tried reseting Windows, though this was unsuccessful. I then connected a USB to ethernet adapter and downloaded all the available updates for windows, thinking that perhaps this was a driver or software issue, though this too was unsuccessful. I took the laptop back to Best Buy this next day and the Geek Squad looked it over, finding issues with the wireless card. On looking at the reviews, it seems that others have had this same issue - just be aware if you purchase this laptop. Overall, very dissatisfied with Dell.

Ticking Time Bomb, Heed the Warnings.

I spent weeks researching the best 2 in 1 laptops withing my price range. Eventually I decided upon the Inspiron 13 7000 series and went to purchase it at my local Best Buy. When I got the computer it started out great. I had the minor problem of headphone feedback/static when no sound was on and I had headphones plugged in, but that wasn't a deal breaker for me. Battery life was good, tablet mode was easy to switch into and worked well. The face recognition sign in was by far the best feature. Time went on and everything was going alright up until the two month mark, last Monday my computer began having "Ghost touches" to the point to where I could not use the laptop without disabling the touch screen. (Eliminating the 2 in 1 capability I bought it for) I had read reviews before I purchased about these dreaded ghost touches and how they reoccurred on every new laptop customers received under warranty but I never thought it would happen to me. Or at least if it did Dell would do everything they could to resolve the issue, right? WRONG. I've spent my entire morning in chats and on the phone will Dell customer support. The first two agents disconnected/hung up on me before solving anything! They both told me to pull up my BIOS screen and see if the ghost touches occurred there. Once I responded that the issue did occur in the BIOS screen they asked for my purchase date and hung up on me! I had to call back a third time just to finally get someone to tell me that they don't accept any type of returns after 30 days, defective or not! Why couldn't the first two agents tell me that instead of just disconnecting me? I've never had so much trouble contacting a company. Currently in the process of trying to get my computer replaced with a new one so I can sell it in an attempt to get some money back from the awful company. In the mean time I'm left without a laptop for the remainder of the semester, as a college student who takes notes exclusively on computers this is devastating. DO NOT DISREGARD THE BAD REVIEWS. Chances are some type of defect will affect your computer and Dell will not do anything to fix it aside from sending you another defective computer. Don't make the mistake I did and waste your money! #neverDell

This is a good laptop overall. I mean for 799.99 you get i7 6th gen, 8gb ram and 256 SSD. Thats a good deal but the problem with this laptop is the screen. I have returned this laptop twice because they have a problem with light leak. When viewing something that is completely black you will see the ugly yellowish light leaking from the corners of the laptop all across the screen. Make sure you check it. You can go to YouTube and search for the screen leak test and view it in a dark room. I thought i lucked out with the first one but the second one has the same effect. I was so happy until this flaw. Still debating if i should return it.
