I am an attorney who uses this computer solely for drafting and emails, however, I find opening apps and documents frustratingly slow. I would return but it appears I missed the 15-day return window, I thought it was 30 days.

This mid-range Dell is very solid and great for an everyday use laptop. I like the power button being on the keyboard and the thought of having a fingerprint reader on it (however, it doesn't seem to read my fingerprint most of the time so I have to type in the PIN). I also like that the camera lens can be opened and shut with a slide button and has a low profile. The setup of Windows 10 was very easy with Cortana and the mail setup was very fast. There was no way to print the lengthy license agreement - they must assume that most people don't bother reading it. The laptop itself seems large for a 14" due to the thin-bezel screen. It is compact yet the keyboard is still large enough to prevent mistyping and the pressure needed for the keys is perfect. The touch screen and keypad are both sensitive and require very light touches (which I prefer). The bootup is quick and the laptop is very fast with its i5 processor. The battery life is great with it being on my third day of use. The cover has strong hinges and I like that the screen can be positioned at any angle. It has a USB Type C power cord which is compatible with many of my other devices. Overall, this is a very solid laptop for everyday use and everyday portability.

I’m very familiar with the Dell Inspiron line. My laptop in college was an Inspiron and have had few since then. The Dell Inspiron line is meant to be just a decent laptop at a relatively affordable price. The Dell Inspiron 5000 2 in 1 14” does not break from that mold. The design of the Dell Inspiron 2-in-1s have remained fairly consistent through the years. The 14 does not stray too far from the design language. It isn’t going to steal anyone’s thunder in the aesthetic game. It’s a no-nonsense and practical design that will fit into the office or school workspace. The build quality is decent. There is a little chassis and display flex. The case is plastic. I have had experiences where the paint starts peeling off with my old Inspiron 2-in-1s so be aware. The hinge feels secure, but I personally have had some failures with Dell Inspiron devices regarding hinge failures so I do think you get what you are paying for with the build quality. Longevity is definitely a problem with the Inspiron devices. Port selection is good. You get an HDMI, one USB type C, two USB type A, headphone jack, the power jack, and SD card slot. I personally don’t really use the tablet form too much. They’re usually too clunky, heavy, or uncomfortable to use as a tablet. The form factor of the Dell Inspiron 5000 2 in 1 14 inch is not very conducive to use as a tablet because the bottom of the chassis is not completely flat. So there is a gap when you fold it completely. This just really makes it uncomfortable to hold. That being said, I do like 360 degree hinges. I like using the tent mode. The hinge is pretty sturdy so it holds up. The keyboard is backlit. The keys have good travel. They are a bit mushy for my taste but I got used to them fairly quickly. The backlight has two levels. The layout of Dell’s keyboards have always been good for me. The trackpad is also comfortable to use. It was a bit more sensitive than I would have liked. Sometimes, I accidentally triggered it which did cause some inconveniences. The fingerprint scanner works well. It does sometimes take a second or third attempt or lag a bit. It won’t be Touch ID but it provides an easier way of logging in. The speakers are bad. They sound tinny and grating. They are also downward firing which further contribute to dim sounds. The volume doesn’t get too loud and I actually struggled to hear the sound in a room with AC going on. You should probably carry headphones with this one. The display is also not too impressive. It is dim. Color accuracy just wasn’t there and the contrast is low. Battery life has been good. I was getting 5-7 hours with normal usage. In terms of performance, 11th-gen Intel is a huge step up from its predecessor. That being said, most users don’t even need that much power but the i5 processor can handle most things you throw at it. Casual gaming, casual video and photo editing are no problem. All in all, the Dell Inspiron 5000 2 in 1 14” laptop is an average laptop. It’s meant to be an affordable option. However, budget laptops have gotten increasingly more competitive and there are better options out there.
