Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.BLUF: Learn from my hubris and do not buy this laptop, details below: So I read the reviews and thought that surely this would not apply to me as I am highly computer literate. Surely this laptop cannot be that bad. I assure it is THAT bad. The pro is that the 4k screen at a reasonable price is stunning really a beautiful display. That is where the good ends, Cons: -Poor execution of cobbled together parts by Dell, drivers don't work right (yes even after sometimes especially after updating) -Not optimized for windows 10, HDD usage stayed at 100% most of the time despite me turning off several normal windows 10 processes that are known to take some HDD capacity. -Wireless connectivity was unreliable and shotty -i7 is nice, but seriously cannot expect it to push a 4k screen without a little help from a GPU, playing videos uses over 50% of your computing capacity. -RAM cannot be upgraded unless you find a single 16gb stick somewhere -Opening a browser will freeze this laptop for 10-20 seconds (edge, chrome, IE 11 were all used) -4k is not well executed with a lot of programs so the text and boxes will be so small as to be unable to read OR this rig doesn't know how to scale the upconversion properly (no way to prove which) -keyboard is tiny and very far forward, requiring you to lay one hand one the oversized trackpad that cannot be turned off? -no number pad even though there is ample room -2-in-1 who holds a 16in tablet? the transition is clunky and really if you have a 4k screen covered in greasy fingerprints its not serving the pristine perfection you envisioned, overpriced useless selling point -Finally, obvious to a true gamer (I am not), this will not run even older games to anything close to tolerable. So even if you are a VERY casual gamer, this isn't for you, it can't do it. I could pull up ME3 (2012 game) but my cursor was stuck in the top quadrant even after turning the display down to 1080p and it was glitchy even on the load screen. I don't know what caused it, I don't care. I bought this to replace a 7 year old Toshiba that I bought for $500 in 09 with an intel centrino duo or something awful like that. That toshiba was struggling with windows 10 (same exact 100% HDD usage at horrible times) So I bought the dell, it it just as slow if not slower than the '09 Toshiba Satellite. Don't get seduced by the i7 and the 4k, its just not functional in this format. If you bought an SSD and fooled with settings and removing bloatware and fresh installs etc etc etc, you could make this laptop bearable, but for $800+ I refuse to put another $200 and countless hours into something that should work out of the box just to make it bearable.

very nice laptop for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. With some student discounts and open box you can get this laptop for almost 500 dollars. All it needs is swapped with an SSD and its a very nice device. keyboard feels solid and screen is great. battery life could be better. If you got the extra few hundred you could go macbook air though. but i love windows 10 new updates.

Graphic issues and missing a few key features
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I should have read and trusted the reviews. Usually I do not trust the reviews. In this case they are true, this computer has graphic issues. First I want to say I installed next to nothing and did not copy any personal files on the computer yet so it was basically factory when I encountered issues. When I would move the mouse to the edge of the screen it would flicker. When I downloaded the latest Flash player and tried to play a video it would not go full screen and it would also lag behind very bad and never get to the full picture quality (it is not the internet as I do not have this issue on my 7 year old laptop). The computer is also lacking a numeric keypad although there is plenty of room for it. It also does not have a scroll option in the mousepad area of the keyboard (the user must move the mouse to the scroll bar and click the arrows). Due to all of these things (mainly the graphics issues) I returned the product. The screen quality looked nice and clear when no issues were encountered. The laptop did take a while to load with factory settings (the virus software said 400+ seconds).

Good Enough
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are looking for high end laptop this is not the one. First of all it does not have SSD which takes time to load the windows and I am debating if i should change to one. Another issue when I first got it was not connecting to my wifi. I tried many things to stay connected to internet but it kept disconnecting. So I had to put my old wifi usb and update the driver. Once I updated the driver everything is running smooth.

Not the best, but plenty good enough
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So, I purchased this computer in January. I read all the reviews at the time that I bought it. I have continued to read the reviews in an effort to make sure that some new issue isn't popping up. Let me also caveat that I have already upgraded this computer to a 1TB SSD and 16GB of Ram. That being said, I never experienced any of the issues that people have primarily mentioned: Bad Wifi and bad video problems. I had a graphics issue when I got it out of the box, and it recommended I update the driver, I did so and haven't had a problem since. The computer worked great before I updated it and is AMAZING after my updates, which gives it the beef of the XPS 15 for about half the price. I wouldn't have kept it or put the money into upgrading it if it couldn't handle it. If you read reviews from other places, you'll see that the biggest pro criticisms are... the track pad, the RAM and the HD. 2 of those 3 can be replaced. I also typically use a wireless mouse. Thus, most problems for others become non-issues. I think sometimes everyone gets a bad item from a box store like Best Buy. But all-in-all this computer was not one for me. I hope before purchasing, you don't see the bad experiences some have had and judge, because it's been awesome for me.

Tried two of the same model...both failed !
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This looked like a decent computer with i7, 8GB memory, 4k screen and 1 TB HD. The first one I got would load part of the operating system and than loose the wifi connection. Tried several times and than returned it. Second one had exactly the same issue. Turns out after research...and what Best Buy Geek Squad confirmed this is an issue on some of the Dell computers. I returned it for a ASUS which has the same processor and HD size but with 12 GB of memory, a better graphics card with dedicated graphics memory, and internal CD burner which the Dell didn't have. It also came with a plug in sub woofer something I hadn't expected. The resolution is not 4K...1080p but unless you have a TV that can show that resolution it would be useless anyway. I thought the image on the ASUS is better overall than the 4K on the Dell too. The ASUS was a few bucks more but the features were worth it. And it has been trouble free. I and my kids have had or currently own several HPs, Lenovos,,Toshiba, another ASUS lower level laptop and two ASUS Android tablets. The ASUS is really nice and I think I will stick with the brand after positive experiences with all of the other ASUS we have owned. That was my first experience with Dell and I can tell you I won't be back to give them another chance. Thanks to Best Buy for the great return program...easy return and swap.

believe the bad reviews
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I went to purchase a lenavo that was in the weekly ad for 349.00. An associate was there to help me in computers, and informed me that the computer in the CURRENT ad was "discontinued" not in stock at any of the stores and even showed me the screen for the count on hand at the stores and the distribution center there were two listed in a store in another town in OK but it is hours away. I asked about getting one of those shipped in and was told that was not possible. I was then shown a Dell that was priced at 699.00, told it was comparable, and that I should get it because it was a "great deal" and he only had one left in stock. I agreed and we went through the purchase process. The Lenavo had I-5 processor, 8 GB Ram and 1 TB hard drive. for 349.00 I checked the specs on the dell while he was working up the price and noticed the Dell only had 500GB hard drive. I asked about it and was then moved up even more to this computer. Awesome graphics, 1 TB hard drive, 8GB ram and 4 GB for graphics was what I was told. All for ONLY 799.00 wow! I fell hook line and sinker. I also fell for the "geek squad protection plan and purchased and external dvd/cd r/w for a whopping total of $1042.00. I completed the purchase, and was told that part of the GS service was set-up of the computer, we walked over to the desk and I dropped off the computer with the GS to get it set-up. After my purchase upon arriving home I came to this site and looked at the reviews, began to get a sick feeling in my gut, and worried all day about the "flickering screen' the wifi dumps and the fact that the dual core was not enough processor to handle the graphics and any other items at the same time. I told myself that every product has lemons and perhaps the bad reviews were due to that. I picked up my computer today after work, got it home and fired it up, home screen looked good, no flicker, and great picture....down hill from there...I connected to my home network did a google search and pulled up a u tube video, it played for about 10 seconds, began buffering and then dumped me off the network. I shut the computer down, tried to reconnect and it would not recognize the network, and guess what... FLICKERING I guess it is my own fault for trusting salespeople, I should have walked when they would not bring in the Levano I wanted. Additionally, I questioned the geek squad rep that gave me the computer on pick up and asked about the 15 day return policy that the salesman had quoted to me 10 times during his upsells. He said the computer could be returned, but since the set-up of the computer had been accomplished by the GS it would have to be a "managers decision" if I could get the 149.99 refunded as well if I chose to "TRY" to exercise the 15 day return policy. I am taking it back tomorrow, and will update the results of my return request.

Wifi and Network Card a Junk - DO NOT BUY
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Well, I read the reviews from so many folks that the wifi card has issues and keeps connecting and disconnecting but still went ahead and bought one on Easter Sunday 03/28/2016 for $650 marked down from $900 hoping the reviews were wrong and guess what this laptop looks good but it is a piece of junk. During setup the wifi connects but will not connect after that. I checked the driver and unbelievably the network driver is release dated in year 2006. I went online on another laptop and got the driver but still this did not work. I went a few hours later and exchanged for another of the same. Action replay happened of what I just described. Just returned to Best buy about 30 minutes ago on 03/29/2016 and got my hard earned money back. The Best buy Blakeney folks were nice though - the girl called the manager to see if they could give me the $250 discount on another machine which they could not but were willing to give me the lowest price on any other laptop they had sold in store in the past few months but that was only a $100 off the in store price so I just took a refund. Dell should just recall all the serial nos. of this model and replace the network cards. I cannot believe they still keep selling these inspite of a known issue. It is all over the internet. Hope this review helps other.

Sleek and Fast
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.360 rotation is very convenient and Windows button along with volume button on the side made it very accessible. Comes with beatiful backlight keyboard and keyboard is very nice to type with and the track pad it absolutely very nice. No dedicated graphics, but it run on 6th gen i7 which run much faster, It has one additional ram slot for an upgrade if needed. Bottom line, it has a nice build quality with higer performance

excellent after clean install otherwise it is junk
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.notebook itself is of good quality and build for the price. the software and drivers are junk and most likely causing all the problems for the people giving it a bad review. i am on my third laptop. i liked it so much i keep giving it a chance. the first notebook i received had problems shutting down. it would take a long time to shut down or i have to do a hard shut off and afterward i can not turn it back on until i remove the battery and let it sit for few minutes. the sd card slot on this one did not eject. the second notebook had the same shut and boot issue as the first and maybe something else but i dont remember. the third one again had the shut down and power up issue and on top of that the wifi looses connection and networks disappear. This time i finally decided to install a fresh copy of windows 10 downloaded from microsoft to install instead of resetting to factory. the clean install of windows 10 solved all the problems. no shut down, power up or wifi issues. with windows 10 you dont even need to download any drivers. once windows 10 is installed and with a wifi connection windows will automatically search and update all drivers. windows 10 downloaded from microsoft is free. save it to a flash drive and install. no need to download any drivers from dell. it has been over a month and the notebook is preforming great.

Touchscreen doesn't work
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Everything worked perfectly for the first week until the computer just turned off while I was switching to tablet mode. Of course it happened after I had already installed my anti-virus software and Microsoft Office. Instead of sending it in for two weeks, I just returned it and bought a new one. One week after getting the second one, the touchscreen stopped working. Random apps would open on their own and tech support couldn't figure out the problem after spending almost an hour on the phone with them. They suggested I send it in but I'm fed up with this product now after installing my licenses on the second laptop. It's a great computer aside from the touchscreen not working (which was basically the reason I chose this laptop in the first place). I doubt it will work if I get a third one.

Challenging machine but Excellent!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Every computer I have had required some "tweaking" upon opening. Windows 10 doesn't help much either. Once I disabled automatic updates the performance has smoothed markedly. (Will a la carte future updates) Wifi issues? Drive updates solved connection drops. Do updates manually from Dell. That likely will help. SSD install on horizon as is RAM upgrade. Overall an extremely nice machine. Welcome form factor also. Be patient and troubleshoot one issue at a time. Phenomenal screen and keyboard! (Company IT Director)

Nice laptop. But underpowered
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Dual core i7 with that Intel520 integrated graphics card simply fails to deliver enough performance for a 4K screen. A Quad Core i5 with a nVidia 940 would have been a much better combination, especially given the high price tag and how large this laptop is. I don't know what Dell was thinking by making this a 2-in-1. It's too big for that. I only use it as a normal laptop and never as a tablet. I have reduced the resolution to 1440p so that it uses less battery and there is less lag. After updating Windows 10 and the drivers (you've got to update some drivers manually because the Dell tools misses some) thr experience is great. But as I said, if I was in market for a laptop, based on my needs, I'd be looking for something else.

what a dissapointment...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Packaged in the box to be returned, again, tomorrow, (sigh), but not to be worked on or updated but exchanged for something more reliable. This computer was purchased for business use so reliability and dependability are a must. Since first using it I have had a battle with the video driver or windows 10. I was told (by the geeks) it needed updates for windows 10 driver from windows 8 to operate the video driver without glitches, something like that. Its a new computer! Even so it still acted up from time to time. Often very slow on startup from the first time used. And the mouse pad on my old HP works better without the catches. Oh, i bought the super duper gotta have it bestest welcome-virus out there called Kaspersky as told to and sold buy the geeks. Well, two viruses contracted in a matter of weeks to confuse the poor feeble dell a little more. Yes it was my fault i contracted viruses, or so i was told by geek. But i heard different elsewhere... Seems windows 10 and Kaspersky cant play nice together. I feel like a guinea pig and have so much more to do with my time then test new computers and write reviews. Oh well, just thought you should know and be warned. Side note, I am glad Best Buy does back up there sales with a decent return policy.

Great configuration but Windows 10 made this worse
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There are few issue with this laptop like fan or some weird noise from inside.Graphics drivers crashes many times. But video clarity is awesome. Very good configuration in affordable price. But Window 10 made this laptop worst, very few software works as expect which works fine in earlier Windows OS. I guess Windows forcing to take software from their store but store having limited application with limited functionality. For example you can compare VLC player from Windows store and from official VLC site, you will fill the difference. Application which are installed directly dies not given good resolution or appearance menu or some part of the application looks overlapped.

DON'T BUY
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I first tried to set it up the wifi keep loosing signal. So we thought it was our wifi. Then we took it to my friends house and it connected without no problem. So then we decided to upgraded our wifi and then it worked. So we decided to keep it, it was well over the return date when it started to do a jumping/glitch. When I first got the dell laptop there was no reviews because it was new to best buy. But then later I looked at the reviews and they all had the same problems that I did. So then we took it into best buy and they returned it for instore credit. So I got a surface pro 3. I love it so far
