Posted .Hi Arnie, Thanks for your recent Dell laptop purchase. We're sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with the laptop freezing on you. We'd recommend that you try the following:
1. Run a Computer Diagnostic. To determine if your computer is experiencing a hardware problem, run the Dell Preboot System Assessment (PSA) Diagnostics. For information on how to run Diagnostics, and to determine the issue, refer to Dell Knowledge Base Article: http://dell.to/2iaiujA.
2. Check Safe Mode for Symptoms. To boot into safe mode, please follow the instructions below: 1) Start the computer. 2) Tap 'F8' on the keyboard immediately and every one second until the Dell logo screen disappears. From there you will see the Windows Advanced Options Menu on the screen. (If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, restart the system and try again.) 3) Select Safe mode with Networking and press Enter.
4) Log on as the administrator or as a user with administrative access.
5) Open applications and test the computer in safe mode. If the symptoms exist in safe mode, please continue the troubleshooting steps in this article. If the symptoms do not exist in safe mode, the issue is likely related to a driver or software and you may wish to complete steps 6 and 7 to see if you are able to resolve the lock ups or freezing. 3. Check for Malware. Malware (Virus, Spyware, etc.) can definitely cause a Windows system to lock up or appear to hang. Excellent Linux Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.In that I don't see any reviews for Linux running on this laptop, I felt that my experience might be helpful to some. First, the specs on this laptop are excellent and everything works together quite well, with plenty of power under Windows, even more running Linux. I don't game, but I do edit photos and video, stream/playback full 1080 and 4K, use the laptop as a Mythtv Client, and run VMs and other semi-demanding application mixes/loads, all with no issue. The keyboard has a very good feel to it; the screen is very clear, bright, and has a wide viewing angle; and the hinges are smooth and firm, even compared to my Lenovo Yoga. The audio is so so, but I have never expected any laptop to be my primary speaker, so no disappointment there. Even though I still need to run Windows for part of my CNC table workflow, rather that dual booting, I removed Windows and install Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and run Windows in a Virtual Machine. This laptop has plenty of memory and processor to run several concurrent VMs with no problem at all. Under Linux, everything, including all functions keys, work just as they should and as they did under Windows. The backlit keyboard can be enabled/disabled, screen brightness, volume, wifi antenna control, etc., everything just works, even the touch screen. Wireless chipset is "Intel Corporation Wireless 3165", which is well-supported in Linux and it too was properly detected during the installation, as was Bluetooth, and both worked perfectly from the standard installation. The only item that needed tuning was the touchpad. It is large and rather sensitive, so I tend to bump it when typing, but I was able to tune it to my liking making several tweaks with the xinput command. I also have a script that allows for screen rotation and disables the keyboard allowing me to use this as a tablet, mostly for reading magazines. The battery life is also quite good - sorry no numbers to share at this point. And as others have said, I too purchased this on sale and it was and still is an excellent value. Overall, I am very happy with this machine and it appears to be well made and I hope that it will last as long as some of my old Pentium Ms.

great bang for the buck

Nice built and look. fast processor. well loaded with a 256 ssd, 8 gig ram, back lit keyboard. Good bright screen. the windows hello feature allows face recognition to unlock the laptop. Things to Know: the bezel around screen is large. the laptop weighs 4 pound 13 oz, so not super light. it can get a little warm and when the fan kicks in can be a little loud. Keyboard is ok, I wish the keys were a little larger. there is plenty of real state for it. Battery life is about 6-7 hours on 50% brightness and mixed usage. Over all, a nice laptop at a great price when on Sale.

Had problems rebooting

Switching from MAC to Windows
