I've purchased two. The first one I purchased was an open box. After software setup, I allowed the system to update including drivers and BIOS. Intermittently the cursor would disappear then come back, but not be functional. The touchscreen would also not respond. Each time, I'd have to do a hard reset. I contacted Dell to see if they could help. Over the course of an hour (nearly 30 minutes waiting on hold) they had me update drivers, roll back drivers, disable drivers, etc. which did not help the issue. I decided to return it and buy another brand new. The second one ran smoothly for the first few days without a hitch. Then, it started to not recognize the charger and give me a warning each time I went to charge it. I could not use the computer when charging because it could not keep up with the power consumption of just browsing the internet. Then, it started shutting off. After a few of those, I noticed dead pixels on the screen. I didn't bother contacting Dell again because I've been dealing with them for decades whether it be work issued laptops or personal computers. They offer excuses and run-arounds, not solutions. Fortunately I purchased from Best Buy which has a 14 day return policy. I'll be taking this back and switching brands. Had I purchased this from Dell directly, I'd be stuck with it. Been there, done that. Thanks to Best Buy for a generous return policy.

Not a gaming laptop. But will run most small games like WoW, diablo, or star craft. Does what it heeds to do for cpu work. But unless you need a larger generic use laptop there are better options.

      Keni,

We're sorry to hear about the battery and heat issues that you're having with your computer. We'd recommend the following tips to get the most out of your computer's battery:

      Change the Power Plan:

      1. On the notification area of the taskbar, right-click the Battery icon.
      2. On the options list, click Power Options.
      3. Select a power plan on the battery meter, such as Power Saver or Balanced. Windows 10 has a built in 'Battery Saver' mode that can be activated to extend your system's battery life. The Battery Saver mode will monitor and limit background activity and other features such as push notifications. You do have the option to enable or disable this mode within settings or within advanced Battery Saver settings, you can customize the mode to best suit your needs.

      a) Click on the Action Center icon in the taskbar and select the tile for Battery Saver.
      b) If running Cortana then type Battery Saver into the search box and select from the results.
Within the Battery Saver settings page, you will be able to turn on and off the feature and customize the feature to best meet your needs.
      c) Turn Battery Saver On or Off.
      d) Additional settings available via the Battery use and Battery saver settings links.
      e) Battery use shows further info on apps and their power usage.
      f) Battery Saver Settings screen allows you to customize further Battery Saver feature.

If your computer is getting too hot for you, here are some tips:

      Tips for Proper Usage:

      1. Dell does not recommend placing portable systems directly on your lap. Due to reductions in the thickness of modern portable systems, heat transfer can be an issue.
      2. Using a portable system (Laptop) on a hard, flat, non-cloth surface will increase airflow and reduce heat from underneath and inside the system.
Using the portable system on a blanket, pillow, or other types of cloth will cover up the fan cause the computer to overheat and can cause permanent damage.
      3. It is recommended to use the portable system in a Room temperature of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F) with a Humidity level no greater than 90%.
      4. Use compressed air to clean the vents on a regular basis.
      5. Using a cooling pad can decrease heat and increase performance.
      6. If you want to know the temperature limitations for your system, go to the Dell Support Website, look up your system model then open the user guide under the manuals link.

They only had the shelf model on hand - so three days to have delivered to my home. Unboxed found had to go back to store, they didn't ship the trend micro "free gift" with the computer. Installed windows updates, Dell updates, Firefox and the "free" trend micro (after removing the McAfee that was installed). Restarted maybe 6-8 times after each install (about an hour into setup). Bam BSOD (Blue Screen of Death). Let it try to recover... next startup after it says it fixed the issue, the computer no longer recognized the hard drive. Took it back, lost $35.00 and manager refused to refund full amount. done with Dell and Best Buy

Had to send it back for repairs with hard drive/operation system issues. While that issue was resolved another has appeared. If anything (say a mouse) is resting on the top of the laptop while lid is closed and CPU is sleeping- the middle horizontal third of my screen developers a bubble effect glitch that inhibits mouse/track pad use and requires a hard shutdown.

Work in IT for 23 years--- Machine issues: logging in to sites. Network would drop while the other 2 machines at home were fine. Needed tons of patches (probably a hint of things to come) and still was flaky. Probably 17 hours of work getting it going, but finally gave up. Brought it back just cord and and laptop for refund. Bad enough that the replacement will NOT be a Dell. Don't want to risk the time and effort again.

I bought this computer at Best Buy in Brandon, Florida at the end of October 2019. January 2020, it would not connect to the internet. I took it into the store and had to pay for Best Buy Total Tech Support so they could troubleshoot it. It took almost a month to get my computer back. I had it back for a couple of weeks and then it would not connect to the internet again. I contacted Best Buy and sent it back to be repaired, again. I got it back Saturday evening. I used it on Monday. I opened it on Tuesday morning and it would not connect to the internet again. I have been trying to get in touch with Best Buy Brandon, Florida since 11:42 today. I have been on hold for a total of over three hours. This is a bad computer or a glitch with this particular computer. Until I hear back from Best Buy, I will assume they are selling defective computers

      Nims,

The fan noise in your computer may be a sign that you need to update the BIOS on your computer: Update the BIOS: An out-of-date BIOS can cause loud fan noises by having an outdated temperature table for the system. Refer to update BIOS and follow the instructions to update the BIOS on your computer. You can also follow up with our Technical Support Team here - 1-800-624-9896.

1 month to the day out of warranty my Dell Inspiration laptop computer port got “wallered “ out. Problem is that the female portion of the port for the power cord is all one piece and part of the Mother Board. It’s something that really shouldn’t happen and now I am stuck with a $400 bill to repair this relatively new laptop. The laptop was purchased new and is 13 months old. I won’t buy this product again...

      Mike,

Thanks for your review. We're sorry to hear about the problems that you've been having with your laptop so far. We'd recommend the following steps if you have trouble turning on your computer in the future:

      1. If the computer is displaying the Dell logo and does not move past that point, it has probably failed POST.
      2. If the power indicator lights up and it is amber or orange, this is usually an indicator that it has failed POST.
      3. If you see text on a black screen, the computer is currently performing the POST. If the computer stays in that condition and does not move past it, it has probably failed POST.
      4. If the video screen displayed anything at all during the startup process but is now black, this probably indicates that the computer failed POST.
      5. If the computer is beeping or if Caps/Num/Scroll Locks are flashing, note if there is a particular pattern in which it beeps or flashes.
      6. If the computer is not beeping and caps/num/scroll locks are not flashing, unplug all connections and remove all media communication devices (e.g. external monitors); reconnect one at a time and check if the computer functions.
      7. For a notebook, press and hold the Fn key and then press the power button. This starts the pre-boot testing and will launch ePSA. In case you have a Desktop at the Dell logo screen tap the F12 key to enter One Time Boot Menu and use the arrow keys to highlight Diagnostics and press enter.
