I bought this as a temporary device and it’s okay if you don’t mind the wireless network going to sleep all the time, bunch of Dell adware and support upsell, and not enough ports or expand abilities… it’s a throw away device. Raspberry Pi can do more.

We are sorry to hear that you have come across some troubles with your Dell Inspiron 7490 computer because its wireless network is not reliable, you are not happy with Dell Support and this device is not equipped with enough ports. We will share your comments about these issues with our quality team, so future improvements can be made.
To help with the wireless network, I have provided some resolutions which should help resolve this issue. I have also provided the full article link, which has more options if they are needed. Please refer to the link to the Drivers and Downloads page for your PC so you can check for applicable updates to the drivers.
1. Download and install the latest Wireless Card driver. (https://dell.to/2th3Tpe) After updating the driver, re-establish the connection with the Wireless Access Point and check the wireless performance.
2. If the issue persists, proceed to step 3.
3. Power-cycle the local network. Shut down the Dell system, the Wireless Access Point/Router, and the Modem. Wait a minimum of 60 seconds before powering up the components in the following order:
4. Power ON the Modem and wait for it to boot fully.
5. Power ON the Wireless Access Point/Router and wait for it to boot fully.
6. Power ON the Dell system.
7. Open Network and Sharing Center
8. In the left-side navigation pane, click on Change Adapter Settings
9. Right-click on the wireless connection icon and select Properties followed by the Configure button
10. Under Wireless Options, select the Wireless N mode
11. For Windows 8 or later systems click the Advanced tab and look for 802.11n Mode on the right you will be given the option to Enable or Disable. If the mode is not visible you may need to update your drivers and firmware.
12. From the drop-down menu, choose Disable followed by Ok
13. This should restore the wireless download and upload speed. Internet speed can be tested at http://speedtest.net

Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with the keyboard lighting. To help with the keyboard lighting issue we suggest disabling the backlit keyboard when you are in lit areas. Below I have provided the steps to disable the backlighting and the full article link.
Backlit keyboard options in BIOS
1. Click the + sign next to System Configuration.
2. Click Keyboard Illumination.
3.* Disabled or Off - The keyboard illumination is off.
*Dim - The keyboard illumination is at half brightness.
*Bright - The keyboard illumination is at full brightness.
4. Click Apply, and then Exit.

The max screen brightness was about 1 shade away from what I'm used to. After some research and speaking to a few people, I learned that this issue is common with this laptop and that it can't be fixed because it's due to the backlight and you can't get an upgrade to fix that.
