    Great, light weight laptop

Very nice, light weight laptop. My only problem is the keyboard. The letters are lighted but during the day it is very difficult to see the letters. I would have preferred that the letters on the key board were colored. I have to move the laptop back and forth, use my hand to block light etc to see what key i'm using. Other than that, it's fast and easy to us.

Major Flaws in an Otherwise Perfect Laptop

I purchased this laptop with a fantastic student deal less than a month ago. Upon first try, I was floored. The design was beautiful, light, and fast. The tablet mode was perfect. I thought it would be the perfect college laptop for an incoming freshman like myself. I wish it actually was. After owning it for a few days, I realized that the battery was draining much faster than I would’ve liked. Around 3 hours on average, 5 if I used battery saver and only using Word - nothing strenuous. For a laptop worth $850, this was unacceptable. If I brought that to school, I might not even be able to last through 2 classes. I was hoping I could simply buy a battery pack and be fine, but here’s the other issue. This laptop does not like to be used when charging. At all. If you simply boot up and leave this laptop by itself while charging, it will heat up to 100C. Not degrees, Celsius. If you leave that on your lap, it’ll quickly get very uncomfortable. Even typing on my desk would get me overheated because the keys were so hot. If you plan on using this little guy only 1-2 hours for basic tasks in the comfort of your own home, this could be the laptop for you. For students who need a reliable, portable laptop that will last you a day’s worth of classes and study sessions, steer clear of this Dell Inspiron.

      Maria,

Thanks for your review. Here are some tips to help extend the life of your computer's battery:

      Change the Power Plan:

      1. On the notification area of the taskbar, right-click the Battery icon.
      2. On the options list, click Power Options.
      3. Select a power plan on the battery meter, such as Power Saver or Balanced. Windows 10 has a built in 'Battery Saver' mode that can be activated to extend your system's battery life. The Battery Saver mode will monitor and limit background activity and other features such as push notifications. You do have the option to enable or disable this mode within settings or within advanced Battery Saver settings, you can customize the mode to best suit your needs.

      a) Click on the Action Center icon in the taskbar and select the tile for Battery Saver.
      b) If running Cortana then type Battery Saver into the search box and select from the results.
Within the Battery Saver settings page, you will be able to turn on and off the feature and customize the feature to best meet your needs.
      c) Turn Battery Saver On or Off.
      d) Additional settings available via the Battery use and Battery saver settings links.
      e) Battery use shows further info on apps and their power usage.
      f) Battery Saver Settings screen allows you to customize further Battery Saver feature.

If you'd like your computer to operate at a cooler temperature, here are some tips:

      Tips for Proper Usage:

      1. Dell does not recommend placing portable systems directly on your lap. Due to reductions in the thickness of modern portable systems, heat transfer can be an issue.
      2. Using a portable system (Laptop) on a hard, flat, non-cloth surface will increase airflow and reduce heat from underneath and inside the system.
Using the portable system on a blanket, pillow, or other types of cloth will cover up the fan cause the computer to overheat and can cause permanent damage.
      3. It is recommended to use the portable system in a Room temperature of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F) with a Humidity level no greater than 90%.
      4. Use compressed air to clean the vents on a regular basis.
      5. Using a cooling pad can decrease heat and increase performance.
      6. If you want to know the temperature limitations for your system, go to the Dell Support Website, look up your system model then open the user guide under the manuals link.

I had a previous generation of this exact laptop which was a great reliable computer. Really love the size bc it’s easy to transport. Great processing speed, etc. So this was a go to when repurchasing. Unfortunately there are 2 things I don’t like. 1. Silver keyboard and back lit keyboard are a poor combo. You can’t see the keys in daylight. 2. The video and camera quality is poor @ 720. The quality on my previous version was better. Notice the camera/video quality is not listed in the specs for ANY model so do your research if this is important. 3. I bought 7 days ago and now on sale for $100 less.

My wife’s laptop died suddenly and we had to get her one quick. This was the cheapest we could find in stock that had her required lighted keyboard and touchscreen. I have had Dell computers at work, but this is our first at home and I has been doing well so far. The bottom gets hot on her lap since the fan blows the air out the bottom. So it is so thin that the only place to put the vents is on the bottom. If you lay it on a bed or pillow or your lap, it will get hot. So far it hasn’t been a big problem. I ‘m hoping it will not overheat because of this issue. That is the only reason I didn’t give it the last star.

The Dell 13" touch screen laptop is very good notebook for someone that is on the go. Its light weight and fast. Touchscreen is very responsive. With 512gb ssd and the 32gb optane, the laptop boots up very fast and programs loads very fast too.

Great laptop. Got it on a flash sale. Versatile. Light. Powerful. Can flip the screen over 180 degrees and use it like an iPad. Wished it came with a stylus, but not a big deal. Have not had the heat issues that other reviewers mentioned. Was worried about that, but time will tell. Great buy!

I've only owned the laptop for less than a month so far and so it's early days, but it works great! I owned a 2011 Dell Latitude with a very slow i3 processor before this one and so I've noticed a big difference with the i5. The extra RAM (8GB v 4GB) helps as well I'm sure. Great screen clarity also. First time I've used a 2-in-1 laptop and I'm very impressed. It probably means I can ditch my very old iPad now! Having a SSD reduces the weight considerably so it makes it much more convenient when traveling. Windows 10 takes some getting used to though. A note to the programming wizards at Microsoft - stop changing things in Excel and Word when it's not necessary. We're not all "rocket scientists"!

I like the feel and look of the laptop, smooth and sleek. I love the touch screen and "Tablet mode." I am confused on how to print the screen or get back to my background, and can't figure out how to fix it. So for that, I suggest a more accessible manual that gives these usual tips or answers. I don't love that there is only ONE USB port, it drastically reduces the amount of tech that I can use at the same time. The camera is good quality and overall, the computer has quick speed and a great amount of internal data.

I’m a student and this has been far better than my old laptop. The camera is good for zoom meetings. The touch screen is a nice feature. Runs very fast never have any issues with youtube videos or downloads or having various tabs and other programs open at once. The sound is a little rough so if you’re looking for something to listen to a lot of music or watch movies on without headphones this isn’t your best bet. For basic everyday use it’s nice. I’m enjoying it!

We bought this for our Jr high child instead of the suggested Chromebook. It's small sleek design is perfect. I would agree with the other reviewers that the keyboard back lighting could have been better. And the laptop gets hot both the bottom and keyboard heat up. We have other Dell laptop users in the household and none of them heat up like this one. This is a real concern for us. What is causing it to overheat?

I bought this laptop after my previous one also a Dell Inspiron, but 5000 series fell and the motherboard got damaged. I have not had any issues with this one yet. It looks great, durable, and cool designs. It's got plenty of storage, and its fast and responsive. The only negative so far is that it overheats sometimes, but overall it's a great choice for school or other basic needs.

Very small and light, so it's easy to travel with. Meets all my basic requirements for a laptop. Speakers have a crackle sound if listening at half volume, not even full volume, which is annoying. I haven't tried listening with headphones yet, but I'm assuming that will be better.

This is our son’s 2nd laptop in 3 years. He is now 13. He accidentally cracked the touch screen. That screen was about $600, so we bought new. This laptop performs well (so far) and is nice and light. Hopefully the touch screen holds up!

Top of the Inspiron line, the 7th series delivers more premium look and feel. It is relatively light, thin, sturdy, and feels comfortable in the hands when used as a tablet. The screen is bright and colorful. I would not use it outside at daylight though. It is sharp enough not to notice the pixels unless you are staring from up close. The keyboard is good. The lack of a numpad is unsurprising on a 13.3" model. Overall, Dell Inspiron 7000 is a nice laptop-tablet hybrid and for $550, it is a no-brainer

So far, I am loving this laptop. I cannot think of one negative. I love the size. I love that it's a 2-in1. I love that the numbers light up when it's dark. It's light weight and seems to hold a charge for a relatively long time. At this point I would recommend it. The man who helped me at Best Buy was fantastic. He was so knowledgeable and patient, never trying to sway me toward a certain product and was respectful of my price range limit. It was obvious that he sincerely wanted to help me!
