Worked great for two weeks, now that it is out of the return period, the start menu will no longer work, the sound disabled itself, and the fan constantly runs. Someone from Best Buy needs to contact me regarding exchange for a new one. Spent $1100 plus and now it will not function.

      Hello mbrock,

Thank you for sharing your experience. We are sorry to hear you are experiencing difficulties with your new Inspiron. We recommend you download the latest firmware and drivers using the 'SupportAssist' application that came with your device. They may potentially resolve the issues you are experiencing with the operating system and improve fan noise.

If the issue persists and prove to be hardware related, it may be covered and/or replaced under its limited warranty. We suggest reaching out to Dell Support at your earliest convenience in this case.

    Horrible Heat Issues

Not sure if I just got a bad apple but the temperatures on this laptop were horrendous. As little as opening applications such as Chrome, the processor temps jump all the way to 90-100 C for a split second. When running something stressful such as Paskmark Benchmark, the processor core temps would range between 90-100. I think the processor eventually gave out and now my machine seems to be stuck at 200 MHz instead of the 2.8 GHz base speeds. Takes ridiculously long to start up and to open any applications. Runs super slow even after factory reset. I did read reviews that Dell laptops tend to have throttling problems (at least with the older gen laptops).

      dunhillz,

Thanks for your review. We're sorry to hear about the overheating that you're experiencing with your new computer. There was a new BIOS update released for this computer a couple of days ago. We'd recommend updating your computer with this latest BIOS update to see if it helps with the overheating that you're experiencing: https://dell.to/37OWbbz.

Here are some additional tips to help your computer operate at a cooler temperature:

      Tips for Proper Usage:

      1. Dell does not recommend placing portable systems directly on your lap. Due to reductions in the thickness of modern portable systems, heat transfer can be an issue.
      2. Using a portable system (Laptop) on a hard, flat, non-cloth surface will increase airflow and reduce heat from underneath and inside the system.
Using the portable system on a blanket, pillow, or other types of cloth will cover up the fan cause the computer to overheat and can cause permanent damage.
      3. It is recommended to use the portable system in a Room temperature of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F) with a Humidity level no greater than 90%.
      4. Use compressed air to clean the vents on a regular basis.
      5. Using a cooling pad can decrease heat and increase performance.
      6. If you want to know the temperature limitations for your system, go to the Dell Support Website, look up your system model then open the user guide under the manuals link.

You can read the full article here - http://dell.to/2uJ8AdG.

Horrible! I had this computer for less than a month and it already blew out. I heard a pop sound and the screen went black. I tried plugging in to see if it needed to be recharged, but it won't even show that it is charging. So frustrating, since I never had a computer break down in less than one month. The store guarantee is only 15 days and this is just over that time.

After eight months of use the hard drive is defective (or probably has been all along). I've never had a Dell computer before but with the chip issues & supply issues this seemed like the best computer at a time I needed one. It had minor issues throughout its life but then it crashed. A brand-new computer should last longer than eight months. I will not buy another Dell.
