Touch pad constantly becomes nonrespondent making it borderline unusable. Can still use the touchscreen component, but this is not a tablet, and the touchscreen capability was not at all a reason I purchased the computer. Internet searches suggest this is common issue with this product and potentially with many Dell products.

      Hi Steve,

Thank you for your valued feedback. We apologize for the trouble you have had with the touchpad of your Inspiron 7506 2 in 1. Some Notebooks and Tablets with Keyboards have added gesture features to the touchpad hardware and drivers. A few of these features are two or three-finger scrolling, pinch zoom, circle zoom, rotate, and swiping. These new features may be the reason for the erratic cursor movement since most are turned on by default. You can disable or modify the way the features work in the touchpad driver properties. Here are some tips to modify these settings:

      1. In the Search box, type main.cpl.
      2. Touch or click main.cpl in the list of programs.
      3. Touch or click the Dell Touchpad tab.
      4. Touch or click on the picture of the touchpad.
      5. Touch or click Gestures (depending on your computer there may not be a Gestures option).
      6. Change the options as preferred.
      7. Touch or click Save.
      8. Touch or click the X in the upper-right corner to close the Dell Touchpad Utility.
      9. Touch or click OK on the Mouse Properties window.
      10. If the touchpad still does not work after following the preceding steps, refer to Dell Knowledge Base article - http://dell.to/2iaiujA.

Avoid this computer and Dell products

The worst. After a bit of research, we purchased two of these laptops to replace older Mac and PC models. The service at the store was not great, but we knew what we wanted and just needed them to find the laptops and pay. The problem started when I got home. Started up and registered with no problems. Then I noticed the webcam didn't work. The app opened, but the picture was black. Spent the next couple hours configuring the system and transferring files from my old computer. About three hours after purchase, the display goes black. I try the normal restart and ctrl-alt-delete plus trying to restart in recovery mode. Nothing. Display does not even flicker. After googling it, it becomes obvious that "Dell Black Screen Inspiron" is quite common with no universal fix. After a few more tries, I called Dell Customer Service. The rep ran me through about 15 minutes of possible solutions with no luck. She tells me she will send a tech to my house to fix it within 5-7 business days. This is about six hours after purchasing a $1200 laptop! I asked to speak to a supervisor. There was no supervisor avilable. But one called me back six hours later to repeat the same terrible customer service script. Out of pure curiosity, I plugged the laptop into the HDMI input on my TV, so I could mirror what I suspected was a non-working display. I could immediately see the desktop and was able to retrieve and then delete my personal files. Since I could see the computer working by using an exterior monitor, it seems obvious that the display hardware failed on day one - just hours out of the box. Indicator of low quality control and not worth the price. You should absolutely avoid buying anything from Dell. I had wanted to buy from a U.S. company, even though their products are made overseas. With customer service and low-quality products that fail on first use, do not bother. Buy from a company that cares about giving you quality for your purchase, because Dell IS NOT THAT company. I returned the laptop to BestBuy the next day with little problem except that BestBuy would not accept a return of the upgrade to Windows Pro that we purchased ($100). We decided not to fight on that one and try to reuse the same license on a future laptop purchase. That will probably require a lengthy call with Microsoft. Including a photo showing non-working laptop screen mirrored to a HDTV. Bottom line: avoid Dell laptops.

    Frustrating

The mousepad is terrible and this has become so frustrating. I'm never buying another Dell Laptop again. And I can't believe a Best Buy employee would recommend this laptop. Won't be taking their word on things again. I really regret this purchase. Do not recommend for college students at all. The battery life isn't great but it's manageable. The laptop would restart constantly when I first started using it but that has since stopped. Besides the mousepad and the battery problems it's been okay but the mousepad issue is incredibly frustrating.

      Hi User123,

We would like to thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We apologize for the trouble you have encountered with your Dell Inspiron 7506 because the battery is not performing as you have expected and you are having issues with its touchpad.

I have included steps to help improve the battery performance of your laptop:

      1. On the taskbar’s notification area, right-click the Battery icon.
      2. On the options list, click Power Options.
      3. Select a power plan on the battery meter, such as Power Saver or Balanced. Windows 10 has a built-in 'Battery Saver' mode that can be activated to extend your system's battery life. The Battery Saver mode will monitor and limit background activity and other features such as push notifications. You do have the option to enable or disable this mode within settings or within advanced Battery Saver settings, you can customize the mode to best suit your needs.

      a) Click on the Action Center icon in the taskbar and select the tile for Battery Saver.
      b) If running Cortana then type Battery Saver into the search box and select from the results.
Within the Battery Saver settings page, you will be able to turn on and off the feature and customize the feature to best meet your needs.
      c) Turn the Battery Saver On or Off.
      d) Additional settings are available via the Battery use and Battery saver settings links.
      e) Battery use shows further info on apps and their power usage.
      f) Battery Saver Settings screen allows you to customize further Battery Saver features.

    hinge broken

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The computer works well but the hardware quality is poor. I bought a Inspiron 17 7000 series 3 years ago and the left hinge was broken after used just for one year. I used it very carefully, but suddenly I found it broken without knowing what happened. It's hard to find the parts to repair. I have used it with the broken hinge for more than 2 years and it's not convenient when I open and close it. The power button on the right side is also not a good design as it's easy to press it accidently when moving the PC.
