1) Windows 8.1 is a horrible product, they may have not had a choice but it really isn't logically set out. Navigating takes a rocket scientist to decipher. 2) Even when you finally figure most of that out, the only redeeming grace was the price. $249 was decent and paired with the Acer 23" Monitor a winning combination! Low Cost and Ultra Performance. Learning curve is a little steep, but once you figure out that when it goes to sleep you have to hit the enter key to get it back, not restart the monitor that helps. Monitor booklet was so simplified you were forced to push a combination of buttons to finally understand what they meant. Still worth the effort. Oh and the Cyber suite is great, love the movie making program, runs like Sony's Vegas which is REALLY expensive- worth that! 3) Yes it has 4 USB ports two are in the back and the other two are in the front behind a secret door on the left. Press the lower right corner of the little door and it will pop open. Surprised they also included an SD slot, NICE! needed that! And it has ports for your headphones both in back and in the front, as well as for a mic. I don't use the HDMI technology, no idea yet what that is but they give ya a cable for it... also nice... possibly for a tv? Will investigate that. 4) I used a stand-alone usb storage device 1 T(erabite or Terabyte?) for only $59 is a steal! No need to buy a bigger hard drive, that's what crashes when it goes bad anyway... the Toshiba comes with the NTI program which only used 30 GB to back up my entire system files for excellent recovery if the hard drive ever goes bad. Head over and get a Square Trade policy on your tower and you'll be set for either repair like new or they'll replace/ pay you what you paid for the original unit sans tax etc. great deal. I always buy the BestBuy service where they clean and do basic maintenance and get rid of viruses which is my usual problem. Worth it for 3 yrs. 5) Overall yes I'd buy this again but I have some concerns about the vibration of the DVD while running a movie, I had to put a towel AND a layer of styrofoam like they use in packing bags to minimize it. It's like what some units run fast then slow down after, this one runs steady at a fast speed so will have the Geeksquad check it out... as I said they are there for 3 years to help... also have the warranty from Dell so this will all get settled. Will also get the SquareTrade policy for 3 yrs and no worries!

I love the price, got it on sale for 219.99. The computer is small and quiet and seems to be pretty fast so far. I'm still getting used to the windows 8.1. This has nothing to do with the computer itself but I really didn't appreciate the sales person trying to tell us how very slow this computer would be and trying to sell us a more expensive one. We are Grandparents who only use the computer for the internet and selling on ebay, we are not gamers and don't need anything extremely fast. The salesperson kept telling us how slow the processor was and as it turns out, it happens to be the same processer as our old computer that had only 300 gb hard drive and cost us over $400.00. We are very happy with this computer but don't like high pressure sale tactics. I might just have to order online next time. I also really like the keyboard. This is my first Dell, so far so good!

What a great price for a new desktop! This basic computer is all I needed and I was so surprized to find it at such a low price. I upgraded the memory , deleted WIndows and installed Linux Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. I find it to be a great computer for : * e-mail * surfing * messaging * online shopping * blogging * YouTube * facebook

the only downside to this computer is Windows OS. After about 40 min. with windows 8.1 decided to go with Ubuntu 14.10. now is a much better computer. Windows OS worked fine I just don't like it.

this computer is nice and very quiet, i just hate windows 8....... but this pc is kind of slow, i called tech support the night after just to see if they could make this thing faster but i see no difference, maybe a memory upgrade would do it.....overall, its nice for surfing, light gaming.......

Bought this computer for my wife to replace her 12 years old computer. It's exactly what she needs. It's fast and large enough for the type of work she performs. Surprisingly, Widows 8.1 turns to be a delightful OS to work with. We have no problem installing 16-year old applications and see them working well.

It's not your premium gamer computer but you're not paying for that. It's really good handling day to day work and great specs for that price. Loved it

This is one of those new Bay Trail-D processors so you are really getting a GREAT little CPU. Not only is the wattage of this thing low the performance-per-watt is unbeatable. Can run two monitors, also swapped the built in DVD-ROM for a BD-RW/ROM (watching blu-rays DOES work). Thanks to the onboard Intel HD graphics you can watch all the 1080p content you want over the HDMI port. UN-FREAKING-BEATABLE for the price.

This is a great home computer...its fast speed loading is impressive... I could not be more pleased with this purchase...

I bought this computer for my grandmother who was using a very old computer with Windows XP. This computer is lightning fast compared to her old one, and a very good price. It's also a lot more compact. She loves it!

The computer seems ok, pretty fast although could probably be faster for gaming, not my thing. Do not even bother unpacking the keyboard, just throw it directly into the trash. Keyboard was warped, rocks constantly while you try to use it. I had to put a stack of post-it notes under one corner . No indicator lights for cap-lock or num-lock. very light and flimsy. The computer comes loaded with way too much useless stuff and it has some "improved" version of Windows 8.1 that seems to be even worse, if that's possible. USB ports are way too close together but that seems to be SOP any more. The statement "You get what you pay for" definitely comes into play here!

This Dell Inspiron is a great desktop for the budget-minded consumer. While it's not a "gaming" machine it certainly has enough power for browsing the Internet, email, and for creating all types of documents.

Reliable, quite, was quick to stop out of the box. Hooked up all my existing hardware without issue.

This computer is good out of the box for basic functions like web surfing, email checking, and you can even run netflix. However, don't plan on using it for any high graphic games. It just cannot not keep up with those. If you want to upgrade to be compatible with such games, you may be looking to invest a couple more hundred in it.

Great Computer for basic everyday normal usage. Not a gaming computer and never stated it was.

Bought this for my husband for Christmas. We set it up the weekend after New Years. Just had to take it in today because it wasn't working. I am told it is a faulty hard drive. Not sure if this is just a lemon but I am hoping to return this product and start over again. Thought I was getting a good basic computer but instead am going to pay extra money to the tech guy who is trying to fix it! Frustrated!

I just got done wasting eight hours of my life trying to get this computer setup and working correctly for my mother, set up was a brezze then none of the applications would open up everything took like ten or more minutes to open up. aweful experience, hopefully I just got a bad one and there not all like it. but I know I aint trying this one again
