I used to be a huge Dell computer fan many years ago so I was pretty excited to get a chance to try out the new Dell - Plus 2-in-1 16" FHD+ Touch Screen Laptop. While I typically reach for my non-Windows based laptop more often than not I always keep a Windows based option on hand for tasks that are more dependent on that platform and this one seemed to have all of the features I would need to keep me on task. The added benefit of it being a 2-in-1 is also a nice perk. Setup was relatively simple but a bit tedious due to the updates that Windows-based machines tends to need to go through. If this is your first foray into using CoPilot+ there will definitely be a leaning curve but it's been my experience that it is not too overwhelming and won't be a deterrent for most users. Screen resolution is more than adequate for most users that aren't looking for gaming laptop level specs. The 16 GB memory will fit the needs of most and the 1TB of storage is what I would consider a great starting point option for most users. The keyboard and trackpad was comfortable to work with providing excellent feedback. The speakers provide decent sound quality for a laptop so you can comfortably watch movies/videos and listen to music without feeling like you need to connect to headphones or a bluetooth speaker to enjoy. Overall I feel like this is a great option for almost any user that is looking for a powerful non-gaming machine with AI support.

The Dell Plus 2-in1 Copilot+ 14” laptop is a solidly built machine with most of the features you want in a classic design. The case design is a clam shell with full swinging hinge that allows it to convert to tablet mode (hence, the 2-in1 moniker). Like other laptops of this size, it’s too large and heavy to use as a tablet in the real world, at least for very long. Still, the feature can be useful if you want to watch a movie without the keyboard in the way. One flights, you can frequently get away with leaving your laptop out during landing by converting it to tablet mode, although this 14” machine is probably too large to get away with this. The build quality is typical Dell solid, with a simple milled aluminum case that feels like the entire laptop was built in a single step. The keyboard structure is very traditional (unlike the latest XPS), with each key a button separated by small space between. Typing feels natural, and key response is quite good for a laptop with limited options for tactile feedback. The trackpad is standard sized (also unlike the latest XPS), which means you can use it without worrying if resting your wrist on the sides is going to activate it. It’s also responsive and easy to navigate. Performance with the Intel Ultra-Core i7 Series 2 and 16GB of memory is outstanding for most uses. Spreadsheet, presentations, movies, etc., were all handled flawlessly. The screen images are crisp and the LED screen is responsive with good black levels. The screen bezel is suitably small. Microsoft Copilot is integrated into the design from the dedicated keyboard button to the Intel GPU inside. If you use Copilot, this is a good thing. I still find it frustrating, inconsistent, and not particularly useful. It has improved over the past year, however, and your usage and, therefore, experience with it may be different than mine. Copilot+ laptops come with the optional Recall feature. If you are at all concerned about your on-line privacy, you’ll want to disable this immediately. If you’re not concerned, you might want to read up on why you should be. Note than this paragraph is only about the Copilot feature, and does not reflect on the overall excellent design of the Dell laptop itself. The one drawback is the camera. The images are fine, but it does not have infrared capabilities, which means it does not support Windows Hello. You’ll have to get used to entering your password or passkey every time you unlock it. Overall, this is a great laptop for those who want performance and Dell quality at a reasonable price.

For the money, this convertible 2-in-1 offers a lot with the convenience of a tablet to the power of the laptop, without many compromises. The 14-inch display size is just about right for a 2-in-1 device where it allows the overall size of the PC to work well as a laptop with a usable display size, with a good resolution as well. The 14" display is actually quite large compared to most tablets but not too big to be unusable. Construction is also a high point where the entire device feels solid all around. There's not much flex and the chassis feels fairly stiff. The hinges are also sturdy so there's confidence when converting it to a tablet. The keyboard and touchpad are positive and responsive making for a predicable input experience. Keys provide a nice amount of feedback so you know you're hitting the key but they don't actually "click" when typing, which is my preference since I tend to bang on the keyboard :) Touchpads are sometimes hit and miss with laptops but this touchpad works fairly well. Touches, swipes, and taps are all predictable but the physical click if you press down harder doesn't feel entirely solid for some reason. It functions just fine but doesn't feel quite as solid as the rest of the construction. The display is one of my favorite things about this device where it's bright, it has an ample amount of resolution, and the glass itself doesn't seem to reflect light as much as other displays. The touchscreen on the display also works great where taps and touches are all 100% predictable. When it comes to actually using the laptop for productivity, it's quite snappy with little to no delay with nearly any task. Again, quite impressive for the price. The particular configuration I have has a 1TB hard drive which provides an ample amount of storage. Out of the box, there's 931GB available less the storage used for the operating system. This also has built in Microsoft Copilot for AI tasks. I don't use AI as much as I should, admittedly, but all the tasks I threw at it like giving me summaries of long web pages, condensing long amounts of text to be more succinct, asking random questions, as well as creating email templates on the fly certainly are time-savers. This is an impressive laptop for the money! Highly recommended.

This is a very impressive yet average laptop. This computer looks and feels sharp but is underwhelming when pushed to do more than basic tasks. Impressive aluminum body which feels premium defying the price point. Screen was acceptable also at this price though not a compelling buying feature. This is an average computer, after all. PERFORMANCE Cinebench R23 ratings have a strong single core of 1764, but when pushed on multi-core, this is surprisingly underwhelming at 5815. The best part of the performance is the drive read and right scores with Crystal Disk Mark read score of 5450 with write speeds of 4768. While these speeds are not leading edge, considering the price point of the computer, it is acceptable. The storage was at 1 TB of space as well. I feel this computer was let down by its intel processor - for an Ultra 7 it did not impress. FEATURES Touch screen and backlit keyboard which is actually not bad as I'm typing the review on this laptop. Trackpad is typical of the over-sensitive nature of the modern laptop though it is no worse than others. As noted the construction of the shell is aluminum, not plastic. Thankfully the backlit keyboard is easy to read with darker keys, not lighter ones. MAJOR ISSUE - WINDOWS 11 I am an advocate for Windows 11, but I cannot understand how Dell can ship a computer that takes longer to update than a $500 mini computer from a lesser brand. I was shocked that it took nearly an hour to capture and to install the needed updates for Windows. What is shocking is that none of these updates are new - these should have been installed at production and the computer should be ready to use with minor updates. Windows and Dell are making a great case to go for a computer made by the Fruit company that is ready to use out of the box with minimal updates. CONCLUSION Depending on how you shop (for price), there may be better options than this computer that perform better when pushed. This would be a good computer for someone who doesn't demand much, but it is surprisingly mediocre with the intel boat anchor processor. It is odd that I have a laptop with a first generation Ultra 9 that competes in this price area that slam dunks over this computer when doing processor intensive tasks. And it has the same ram and is first generation of the chip.

A functional laptop with some physical flaws

This is a decent laptop...relatively powerful, but has some physical characteristics that hurt it. As a 14-inch 2-in-1, it's a perfect size to fit in a bag or briefcase; but it actually feels heavier than it should. Fortunately, it has exactly the right number of full ports, making a dongle unnecessary. The chicklet-style keys are surprisingly soft and pleasant to type on. They're just the right size and are incredibly comfortable to use. The Copilot+ implementation is standardized for these types of laptops and this one works as well as expected. Yes, Copilot+, itself, is in need for updates, but the system works great. The main problems I have with this laptop are essentially all physical: Keyboard Flex The keyboard on this laptop has a really bad flex to it. You can see how far the keyboard sinks down when you press on it, and it's one of the first things I noticed when I started using it. It doesn't appear to affect the quality of my typing (at least so far), but seeing the flex constantly is very jarring. Screen Scrap When you open the screen, the back of it folds down to make contact with your desk/table surface - lifting the back higher than the rear bottom cushion. Normally, this would be fine as long as there was some rubber padding, but the screen only has tiny, minimal padding that doesn't seem to actually touch the surface. Instead, when I open the laptop, I can hear the screen scraping the table. This means it's highly possible to wear down that back rim of your laptop (or scratch your desk surface) simply by sliding the laptop around. The above physical issues were enough for me to withhold higher stars, mainly because they keep bothering me. But everything else about this laptop is good. The screen is also pretty great and easy to read, the memory is a good baseline and the drive offers plenty of room for basic use.
