Faulty Laptop; Poor Camera and Speakers

The computer started glitching upon initial startup. The mouse stopped working for a few minutes. A few days later, the screen started flickering after a video call. Maybe it was just a faulty computer, but I expected more from the front camera and speakers. Low sound, speakers placed on the bottom, and the camera was low quality. I didn’t expect top notch specs, but for the weight, DELL should have invested more in those areas. Computers at this price range also have better battery life. I returned.

Wow…. what an incredible 16” touch screen display. I also really wanted this laptop because it has the keypad on the side, I really need that for my work. Lets dive into the initial setup and overall experience so far with this laptop. Unboxing this was a pure joy. It is sleek yet sturdy. I would plug it in while you are setting up the laptop. Once you plug it in and power it on you will be guided through the setup. Super easy and intuitive. Note there will likely be a few software firmware updates to install after your initial set up. I find it is best to plan for this as part of your set up. I would not expect to use it to its fullest capabilities until you have given it a day or two of restarting and checking for updates. This is normal for laptops and if you can be patient and install these along the way you will be better off in the end \and have a better user experience once everything is fully up to date. While you are going through the guided initial setup there are several tutorials you can watch to help you explore the fun features of this laptop. I would definitely take time to watch them while the device is being set up in the background. One thing I noticed right away was there is a large space for your hands to rest beside the trackpad. The keys on the keyboard were a little smaller than I was used to but that is by design to allow enough room for the keypad on the right to fit in the same space. It is not an issue, just something I noticed. I have to be a little more precise when typing as the keys are a little smaller than other Dell laptops I have had in the past. I really like the screen size, the bezel is small and allows for a large viewing area. The touchpad is large and super responsive. There is a bit of a plastic sound when pressing (clicking) on the touchpad. Not an issue just noticeable since it is not a glass touchpad. I suppose this is an audible notification that you have in fact pressed hard enough to engage the touchpad when needed. Battery life is superb so far and I like the extra HDMI port included. Microsoft CoPilot is included and has a dedicated key to initiate it when desired. I have enjoyed my initial experience so far with CoPilot and can see how it could save me time on projects in the future. I had one scare during my install. It was working fine for the first day, but the second day when I went to turn it on I was presented with a BITDEFENDER screen asking for a 12 key code. I contacted Dell Support and was able to find the key in my Microsoft Account. Once I entered it I was back up and running and have not had any issues since. This could be concerning to someone with little experience and not sure what to do. Don't panic, Dell support can help guide you if needed to locating your key to unlock the laptop again.

It's very slow - my old HP with less than half the storage and 1/4 of the ram is just as fast. Thinking about returning it.

Within a few days the many issues with this laptop was apparent. It does not wake up from sleep at all, constantly have to hold the power button for a minute to turn on, and was running into frequent errors. Exchanged and got a HP laptop again. Never buying this brand again.

Excellent Computer For Back-to-School and Work

With back to school just ahead, many people will be looking for a new laptop for high school or college. With the Dell Plus 16’ FHD+ Touch Screen Laptop, people will have a powerful machine to handle these needs. Out of the box, set up is simple. The Windows based machine is like most people have used in the past. The Windows 11 Home version is native to the system, so you will have the basic intro questions to go through to set it up. After that, you are off and running. The computer has some jacks to allow you to connect additional equipment to it. There are two USB-c ports (but one will be used for power most of the time unless you have an adapater). There is also a USB-A port, an HDMI port, and a port for a 1/8” headphone jack. There is no Ethernet port so you will need an adapter if you want to use wired connectivity. The casing is very solid and rugged. Dell even advertises it as military grade, so it should be sturdy. This does contribute though to its nearly 4.5-pound weight. This is one negative I did find with this system. If you do use it for school or work, carrying it around may be annoying. There are lighter systems on the market. Ultimately with this system, it is made to do work. The battery is said to last up to 20 hours. This really depends on the type of work you are doing and a number of other settings, so I did not get this. However, I easily got through the day. The system also has a 1TB SSD. This makes the system very fast and allows one to load new programs quickly. The backlit keyboard and 16” full HD LED screen add to the computer’s appeal. This is not meant to be a gaming computer. Students could load up Roblox or Minecraft, and the system will do fine. But it really is not meant to be for high graphics, high frame rate games. The graphics are more entry level and not the highest resolution. Where this computer excels is with work. Whether that means schoolwork or office work, this machine is ready to go. Crunching numbers, running programs, using AI, and doing graphics on this computer is easy. This is the environment that it was meant to be in. In conclusion, I really like the Dell Plus 16” FHD+ Touch Screen Laptop. This system is sturdy enough to be bounced around a classroom or a boardroom and will last. The only real concern I have with it is the weight. It can be much heavier than the others, but this is part of the trade off for the sturdy design. I am confident though that this will get anyone through a high school or college level course. I recommend this product to people who need a back to school or office computer.

Be careful! a piece of garbage. The battery had a poor performance, sometimes the laptop turned it off by itself. I though it could not be big deal; but I regrets it now, because before two months it is not working anymore. It does not turn it on. Now I can not return it.

I'm only giving this one star because I can't submit my review without one. Opened my computer up to use and found out it was broken. Tech person reported he receives a lot of Dell returns due to the problem I experienced. I would have exchanged it but BB had nothing comparable. A real disappointment.

This computer was bought to replace my laptop that died while traveling. It lasted less than 2 days before it died as well. So I had to go back to Best Buy and get a different one. My HP is working great.
