|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The stealth look is amazing but for me it comes at a minor cost of usefulness. Function keys are touch sensitive area above the number keys. The keys are defaulted to multimedia, backlighting, screen brightness, display swapping, home/end/insert/delete keys, but with a press of the fn key the backlit area switches to the standard F1 to F12 keys… really slick execution of the multifunction keys. The backlighting makes it easy to touch in the correct place. However I can’t say the same for the trackpad. While the stealth look is amazing I don’t particularly care for it because the trackpad is not obvious and even worse is finding the left and right buttons. I’ve had to “hunt” for the buttons to press them correctly. Fortunately, there is a slight tactile feedback when you do land on and press the buttons. I think a ghosted outline of the trackpad and buttons would have been extremely helpful or even a self-applied film decal. Continuing with the keyboard. The keys are square/rectangular and not full travel. There is minimal gap between keys. Aesthetics are primary but there is enough travel and a bit of tactile feedback to make for a good typing experience. I had no issues getting used to the keyboard and I use gaming keyboards with my desktop computer. The typing experience is night and day but still a positive, especially since Dell has gone super thin with this unit. The white keyboard backlighting is excellent with off, mid and high settings. You don’t need the bright setting when working late at night… you know who you are 😊. Performance is amazing with the intel 13th generation i7-1360P CPU and 32GB of DDR5-6000 memory it is more than powerful enough for work applications. Add the 1GB SSD storage drive you have plenty of room for your apps and files. The SSD makes boot ups really snappy. I got about 20 seconds from power on to Windows login screen. Where this unit really shines (besides the under-hood stuff) is the display. The 13.4” OLED display is powered by intel’s Iris Xe graphics adapter and has up to a 3456 x 2160 resolution. While the Iris adapter isn’t a powerhouse and not capable of running a lot of AAA games it can be used for games that don’t require nVidia or Radeon hardware. Of course the primary target for this laptop is the business user and it’s more than capable of handling anything you can throw at it. Especially useful for business trips or long plane flights where you may want to play movies or music. The webcam has a good image and it’s hidden amazingly in the extra thin top bezel. At first I didn’t even think there was a webcam but sticking with a stealthy look they managed to hide it pretty well. This unit has an integrated mic on the top edge of the bezel. You don’t even notice it’s there. This XPS13 is very light and thin and can easily fit in the smallest of backpacks or messenger bags… or even a large ladies handbag. Connectivity is great, especially with the Killer Wi-Fi adapter and of course it has Bluetooth. It does fall a little short on inputs and output ports. There are only 2 Thunderbolt-4 ports and one would be used for charging if you are short on power. There are no USB-A ports nor is there a headphone/mic jack. Instead Dell includes a USB-C to USB-A adapter and a headphone/mic dongle. If you don’t use Bluetooth accessories then you may want to invest in an USB-C hub that also has a USB-C input/output for charging, a couple of USB-A ports and even a HDMI port. There are a couple of options available to purchase separately including one offered by Insignia. In addition to the USB adapter and dongle a power adapter is included that is small and easy to toss into a bag. The brick has a detachable power cable and the USB-C connector will take up one of the two available laptop Thunderbolt ports. I have an older generation XPS13 and all in all this is a great update for a really good platform.

Beautiful design and a powerhouse too
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to turn on my new Dell XPS 13 Plus. After taking it out of the box and being stumped by the lack of any buttons on the chassis, as well as nothing but a very tightly organized keyboard on the inside. No visible trackpad, no F-keys, no extra legends on any of the keycaps indicating any sort of power button. I was completely stumped. I started pressing every key on the keyboard, starting with the tilde on the top row, working across the numbers, until I finally found what I assumed was a non-functional spot next to the backspace. Turns out, this is the integrated power button plus fingerprint reader. I had no idea that this had a fingerprint reader when I was picking it out, but here we are. The design of the laptop is very sleek and minimalist. The trackpad blends seamlessly into the palm rest, so I'm not really sure how big it is. I find that it doesn't accidentally register at all when I brush it with my palm while reaching for the number keys, which is huge for me. I usually can't stand using a trackpad for this very reason, and almost always need to hook up a mouse. The F-keys have been moved to a capacitive strip above the number keys, and the Fn toggle turns them into the usual laptop function buttons like volume control, brightness, as well as the print screen, home, insert, and delete buttons. This hasn't annoyed me as much as I thought it would, as I'm really only using those keys while doing some of the old magic on a spreadsheet. My usual "highlight the first character of a cell" keystroke combination (F2, home, shift+right arrow, ctrl+C) gets hampered by the fact that the home key is on a different capacitive menu than the F keys. The arrow keys have half-height up and down buttons, which as a gamer, I absolutely hate, but this is not a gaming laptop, so I don't expect to be too bent out of shape over it. Fitted with a 13th Gen Evo i7 processor and 32 GB of RAM, this runs like an absolute dream. Out of the box, Dell has tweaked the performance for a more conservative battery life, but it is possible to choose from various profiles, in case you have some heavy processing to do quickly, or if you know you aren't going to be near a place to plug in for a while and don't need to crush benchmarks. This is important, because the amazing OLED display does have an impact on battery life. The 13" form factor is just about the perfect size for me. It's compact and light and fits easily into my smaller backpack, while still having a full sized keyboard. The 2.7 lbs weight is hardly anything, which my back thanks me for. The screen is big enough to read easily without messing with display scaling. The only drawbacks that I've run into are the lack of ports. 2 USB-C ports are not enough if you only include a USB-C to headphone adapter and a USB-C to A adapter, especially if you also charge by USB-C. This only leaves one port available, making a USB-C hub with pass-through charging almost a necessity if you intend to use any accessories that aren't bluetooth (like a headset that needs a dongle, a wired mouse, a fancy USB microphone for making ASMR videos, etc). I'm also not very impressed with the webcam integrated into the miniscule bezel, which means if I want to look my best in my Teams meetings, I have to plug in my own. Battery life is also not amazing, giving me about 6.5 hours of regular browsing and typing on the default power setting which isn't terrible, but still would need to bring a charger if it goes to work with me. I understand that the OLED and the resolution I'm running at combine to sap my battery life, and I'm ok with that. Pros: Perfect size for portability/usability, excellent design, powerhouse under the hood Cons: Only 2 ports, capacitive function keys not the best for power users

Defective, no customer service at Best Buy
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had nothing but problems with this unit. It replaced another XPS 13 when my motherboard died. Since getting this unit, I have had intermittent bluetooth connectivity issues. My bluetooth devices randomly stop working but show that they are still connected. All drivers are up to date. The fans were loud from day 1. I contacted Best Buy and was told that it was too late to return it (even though the website said I had 1 more day). The customer service person I spoke with got mouthy and argumentative with me. TERRIBLE customer service. The only good thing was that the device came with Dell's service protection. THEY diagnosed it and remoted into it. A tech came out and replaced the fans. I still have the bluetooth issue. For a unit that I have had for approximately 1 month, I have had nothing but problems.

Thin, light, powerful, with a stunning display
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My review mirrors other reviewers comments on thin, light, and powerful. The OLED display is nothing short of stunning! However, a couple of weaknesses must be mentioned. First is battery life. Average at best and I had hoped for more, but they must have compromised due to space available. I get around 5 to 6 hours on a charge, and hoped for 9-10. The machine runs a bit on the warm side as it could use more cooling capability, but that is not is deal breaker for me. I am very surprised it does not have an apparent way to determine if it is powered on or not. I have never owned a computer that did not and I am not sure what they were thinking with that design decision. Performance wise - this thing is a beast and takes everything I throw at it. The 1TB drive is another plus as most computers in this class come with 500GB. I hate putting a bigger drive in a brand-new computer! 32 GB of ram is more than up to the task! Another nitpick is with the keyboard. I realize this is a very personal preference, but the keyboard is not my favorite. The backlighting is just OK - nothing spectacular. I do like the touch screen. Only one other nitpick and this seems to be the current standard in thin laptops - only two thunderbolt 4 ports. It forces you to carry a pigtail to drive HDMI, VGA (yes, I still use that sometimes in presentations) and USB=A connections. I wish Dell and other manufacturers would give us native ports in addition to thunderbolt 4 ports. All in all, this is a very solidly built fast, light, and thin laptop. Five star rating!
