First, I have to say hats off to Denon they have really improved their graphical user interface its not flashy but it tells you exactly what to do step by step for great sound quality. The clear crisp natural sound is what Denon is known for and this unit has it in spades. The WiFi and Bluetooth are both great because lets face it who really listens to the radio anymore. The AVR-X1100W has plenty of power for small to medium sized rooms with relatively efficient speakers. People with large rooms or really power hungry speakers may want to go up to this units older brother as it has a bit more power. All in all i am very satisfied with my purchase and will jump back on the Denon band wagon.

Bought this receiver to replace a Denon i had bought 4 yrs ago. I replaced it because one HDMI input stopped working and i really needed it due to the lack of HDMI inputs. Noticed this receiver was lighter than my previous receiver. I also noticed this receiver was easier to use and had less buttons. The buttons are commonly used buttons to get what you want. There's a USB port in the front which is nice to know i can just connect my iPhone and listen to music. There's no book manual, only a CD, which i haven't played, and really haven't needed it due to the onscreen menu guiding me to program the receiver. What i loved about this receiver was the wifi and airplay features. I can just play my iPhone music via airplay without dealing with cables. I use the Wifi to listen to internet music a lot. I don't have a 3D or 4k TV, just a 65 inch panasonic plasma TV along with a 5.1 surround sound system. Sound is great. Has 6 HDMI inputs which is plenty. I mainly watch Directv and listen to music. The one thing i didn't like was that i was unable to change my current wifi settings to connect to my new router. The screen was blank. I had to reset the receiver so i can set up the wifi, but i had to go through the entire settings to program the receiver back. I hope not all receivers are like that. If so, please fix.

HDMI Handshake major issues.

We have had it for 6 weeks and have had so many issues with the HDMI handshake in all ports. The video or audio or both will sporadically cut in and out.
At first we thought there was a problem with our Comcast service (nope), then the cable box (nope), then the actual wiring (inspected by a technician, and nope). So racking our brains we do some research on the possible problem. I discover many have had this same issue and a handful of others similar or related. There doesnt seem to be any fix and Denon support doesn't have an answer or solution to the problem.
So I tried some things that really should have solved this problem if it was a glitch with cable, connection, wiring, or device other than the receiver itself.
Even though the receiver has wifi, I hard lined it (Cat6 ethernet w/high performance specs) to the router (56Mbps/6Mbps) and connected the cable box to the receiver with an HDMI (Shielded, gold plated, ethernet, 3D, 7.1 Dolby, etc.), thinking this should solve any connection issues with the cable box. It did not.
Finally decided to try other ports and other devices in other ports. All the HDMI ports have the same handshake issue although some more than others. The Cable/Sat port is absolutely the worst and we cant use it at all for any device.
We now have to connect some devices to a separate HDMI switch connected to the TV and utilize an optical audio cable (also top of the line). Its become very irritating and a total hassle. Not only would I not recommend this receiver, I dont think I have any faith in Denon as a manufacturer of home entertainment or electronics.
I am no stranger to gadgets or 21st Century Tech. We purchased this receiver on special (floor model) after doing some research on the features most important to our intended use. Such as, the number of HDMI ports, 4k ready, bluetooth & streaming, and the number of compatible devices we could connect. It seemed like the perfect fit and I definitely cant complain about the price. I am big on gadgets and we utilize many on a daily basis. TV, Blu-Ray, PS4, Amazon Fire stick, streaming music (laptop, 1 iPod, 1 Android phone), and Comcast cable, among a few others.

I was suspicious of this unit at first but once I got it home and out of the box, the setup was impressive, connectivity perfect, and ability to drive my speakers was amazing. I've never heard the same movies as clearly before and I'd highly recommend this receiver to the budget-conscious budding audiophile.

Great sound - but not great quality

I purchased this unit one year ago. The sound delivered is great and I have no complaints about that. However, I find that I need to re-boot the unit about once every two weeks (disconnect from power source) because the receiver stops responding to the remote control. After the reboot, it works. I cannot control zone two volume with the control buttons on the remote, and have to go to the set-up menu and adjust the volume there and this requires you to have your TV on to see the menu. Now the front panel display has gone dark and I can only tell what is happening by having my TV on to view the menu. Also, when I choose to watch TV without the surround sound on. about half of the time the Denon unit would not allow the signal to pass through and I have to turn on the unit to be able to access the signal (I have Direct TV). Very disappointing for the money spent on what I thought was a top name brand. I will not buy Denon again.

Purchased this receiver due to ex-husband taking our Pioneer. I wasn't complaining because the Pioneer continually had issues. Chose the equivalent Denon because of reviews. This has been the best purchase since the divorce!!! I didn't hook it up but i have been able to program everything i need without help. The last receiver continually had issues and i didn't feel i could do more with it than watch a tv program. on this one, I listen to my SiriusXM, Pandora, all of my devices, its GREAT!!!! Highly recommend it to anyone.

If you buy this receiver, please don't make the same mistake as I did! Make sure you buy the Geek Squad Protection. I wish I did!
I purchased this item in January. The LCD Display burned out in April. I called the customer service support to get the unit serviced. I have to send my unit to CA for the repair. I have to pay for the shipping. On the Denon website, the service center database is inaccurate, so I can't drive my receiver over the other repair center which is 2.7 miles away from my house. I never expected myself to be a one star reviewer. If they do want to improve the first step is to update the service center database on their website.
On June 26, 2015 the receiver crashed, so now I have to send it back to the Service Center. The cost of me sending the receiver to the Service Center is not paid for by Denon. That's twice. I may just cut my losses now.

Denon AVR-X1100W marginal

This unit was purchased through the Magnolia store within the Best Buy Northgate in October.
The WiFi on this unit is close to useless. Denon chose to go cheap and use a 802.11g card instead of "n". I am not sure if this is the issue, but even with a very strong signal being indicated at the back of the receiver, it was unable to hold a internet connection for streaming for more than a couple of minutes. Tried boosters and port opening etc., to no avail. The sales staff pretty much admits the WiFi is "hit and miss" on this unit.
I then went with a PowerLine set up and the internet radio and streaming got better but still would not stay connected. After jumping through some more tech support hoops I tried a direct connection with a CAT-6 ethernet cable but with no better results.
The story line is now that I have a bad internet signal, but strange none of my other streaming connections have an issue.
Bottom line, if you want good audio but don't care about WiFi or streaming this is a pretty good AV receiver. You can get what you want for far less money, however.

Denon is a great name and has been for may years now. This receiver does really everything that you would need it to do. Strong enough to supply supplement sound for the standard size Familyroom.

Purchased 03/22/15, returned to Best Buy 08/22/15 for manufactures warranty repair! Display on front of the receiver is dead after 5 months of use. Should have purchased Geek Squad Protection! Thought I was safe with 3 year warranty. Now I have to go without for 4 to 5 weeks!
Sound and everything else was great.

I came from Harman Kardon to Denon this year. I have a THX 7.1 equalizer and thanks to this Denon unit I do not have to deal with it anymore. This Denon unit has a build in equalizer with 9 bands for each channel including the sub. Also you can control the speaker levels for each aplication so you do not have to use the same settings for all of them.

Giving it one star so people that want to see it's issues can be aware of them.
The biggest problem I have had is with bluetooth functionality. One of the big reasons I purchased this unit months ago was I wanted to be able to stream music from my nano while I was on my treadmill. I have had some pretty big problems in doing so. If I change tracks to fast, ie, not letting the new song play for a few seconds, or change tracks too soon after the unit ends a song, or if the unit just decides to randomly stop connecting, it stops audio. But it does so in a horrible way. Neither the receiver or the nano realize that audio is no longer being transmitted and the units have unpaired. The nano continues to go through the playlist and the denon just keeps on the same song. Turning the denon off/on continues the problem as it will no longer connect to the nano. Pairing again does not work easily. In order to get the denon to actually work again I have to unplug it's power source for 30 seconds or so, turn it back on, forget the denon in my nano's list of paired devices and repair the devices. Kind of destroys the momentum of a run when this happens. I've gotten used to it enough by now that I avoid it most of the time, but when it does happen it is just that much more aggravating. It also does the unpairing behavior with my phone, so its an issue with the denon and not any other device.
Other issues I have encountered are changing sources can often take a while and sometimes the screen will just remain blank when the source relies on the denon GUI. Receiving audio from the TV through the HDMI ARC channel can be spotty, as it took trying several cables, all of which had the same correct specs, to find one that worked and even then it sometimes fails and I have to unplug the unit to get it to work again. Same issue with getting the TV to automatically turn off/on the receiver and adjust its volume. The auto update procedure can be buggy, the first time it tried updating it got stuck and wouldn't respond until I restarted the device, at which point it tried to update again and got stuck again. It eventually updated but was unnecessarily annoying. Playing music through itunes on my computer over the network can be very hit or miss. Sometimes it works perfectly, sometimes it doesn't connect at all, and sometimes it has issues in the middle of playing. Just another thing that adds to its problems.
Overall the audio quality is really good, but the unit just has so many other issues that it is extremely frustrating to use. I never know when I'm going to do something simple that will require me to fix what went wrong and overall regret purchasing the thing.

Bought this unit because seemed the best for the price. After several attempts it finallly connected to my wifi, which is only 15 feet away. Blu-tooth worked for ten minutes then quit and would not reconnect. Returned after 7 days. Exchanged for another one hoping it was a fluke. After I re setup the unit, the wifi would not connect during or after the setup mode. Blu-tooth worked for 15 minutes then quit and would not reconnect. Unit runs very hot. Im going to return permently, and buy another brand.
