After the return period expired, the receiver's WIFI stopped working. System reset did not work. No WIFI, No Internet Music, No HEOS, no Setup Assistant. Waiting for Denon support to contact me. I see from web searches this is a common failure mode for 1400's and 1500's. Very sad.

Denon did a great job mixing and matching features to hit a pricepoint for their high teir entry level receiver. At only $600, it comes packed with the meat and potatoes for creating an emersive movie listening environment. The receiver is rated for 80 watts per channel but it never sounded like it was struggling even at high volumes, the 4k video processing is perfect, and Audyseey works as advertised, but there are a few qwerks to get used to like always setting my fronts to Large, setting the crossovers to way below the speakers frequency response, but that stuff is easily corrected. All HDMI in are HDCP 2.2 and are compatible with Dolby vision, 4.4.4, BT.2020, HLG, HRD10 and since the HDMI's are 2.0b support for eARC and HDR10+ support can be activated via future FW update. So the good is out of the way, here are some things i really am not a fan of; Menu is limited as far as information goes. No descriptions or explanations of what setting are or control. I am ok with the dated low res menu, but some people arent. The receiver is powerful but its flaws do become more pronounced when using low efficient speakers. My Paradigms are all rated from 91-94db so they get plenty loud, but if you plan to use lower efficiency speakers you will have to turn the volume up higher, or speaker levels up to obtain a decent loudness which will raise the distortion. If you have a medium to large room (> 1,800 ^3) you may want to look into the x2400 or x3400 as the are more powerful. The other "make or break" thing about this receiver is that music playback is acceptable but definitely would not suffice for Audiophiles on a budget. There are much better options out there for music just a couple hundred more like Marantz. This system was geared towards Home Theater use with the ability to play music. Its perfect for people like me who will setup in an medium sized room, have high efficiency speakers, primary use is for movies not music. Do yourself a favor and make a list of things that your new receiver must be capable of. Do your research and find the receiver that best fits your requirements.

    Not so great AV Receiver

This receiver came highly recommended from a Best Buy employee and I must say, I am NOT impressed. I previously had experience with Onkyo receivers and had no problems with their video experience or dependability. This was my first Denon and I will not buy them again. Video and sound does not perform consistently. Bought this to have the infrastructure to handle 4k TV so excited about the potential 4k TV and receiver would offer. It is mostly ok most of the time, but the video often pixelates and other display and sound problems as well. Expected much better performance for the money.

With great BB dedication, it was determined that our brand new Denon was inoperative and needed immediate replacement. The original Denon unit has put us through MUCH ANGST and frustration. Thank God, BB staffers figured it out.
