    "Addiction" sums it up!

I've never been a huge fan of 1st person shooter games, mainly stuck to the Maddens, 2Ks or racing. When purchasing the glacier white ps4 bundle, Destiny was only a add-on that remained sealed for weeks after purchase. When i finally decided to play, it was pure confusion for the first couple runs but when it started making sense and weapons became unlocked & levels were being upgraded it became addictive (without playstation plus online play), 2k & NFS have taken a backseat to Destiny. it has become one of my favorite games (non sport genre) next to the GoW series. I'm sure many may differ in opinion when compared to Halo series; but, with this being my first experience with 1st person shooter i'm more than satisfied.

A good game, not great...for now

This game has a lot of potential to be great, unfortunately it is not quite their at launch. The best way to describe Destiny is it's an MMOFPS (Massively Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter), so it's cross between World of Warcraft and Halo. The problem with MMOs is you need people to play with, otherwise this experience is less than satisfactory. While you can (and will), run through certain things like bounties and missions yourself, the worthwhile content such as strikes and raids need people, which this game has for the most part. Unfortunately, most of this multiplayer content will require a paid online service, either PlayStation Network, or Xbox Live which normally runs $50-60/annually. The problem is there isn't nearly enough content for the launch and at $60 price point, less than 2 months later you can feel the staleness starting to set in. However, more content will be released, 2 expansions have been announced, the first will go live on Dec. 9th while the second will be some time in the first quarter of 2015. Unfortunately you will need to shell out more cash, $35 for both or $19.99 each separately. The game is addictive and the more friends you have the more addictive it gets because its always a new experience. If you want a solid campaign and don't have a paid online gaming service on your console you may want to stay away from this title.

This game was made by Bungie. The guys behind Halo. So obviously you can expect great gameplay. But what is surprising is the lack of variety this game has. Without the DLC offerings, you're simply grinding through the same lifeless levels over and over. Which to some may seem like a lot of fun. To others this is a problem. The story is very underwhelming as well. As it relies on DLC for you to get the full grasp of. People like myself rarely ever buy DLC, so to me the game feels unfinished. Not a fan of that method.

i use to love this game. would pump around 5 hours a day into this game until the first dlc hit. bungie has made this game into the biggest grind i have ever played (coming from someone who has played every gran turismo). you really do have to grind for anything and everything now. not only that but the loot system really is all over the place. you may not get anything for 2 months straight then in 1 week you get 5 exotics. when they say rng is random, they really do mean it. the graphics and gunplay though are what kept me coming back. the way the guns feel and sound are some of the best in any game. that is over shadowed though by the constant grind of doing the same exact bounties day in and day out the story also is very lacking and has no substance. i have played through the story probably 8 times and still dont have a full understanding of what is actually there. and then you come to the guns or lack there of. most of the guns in the game are the same gun just reskinned with different perks and color scheme. if you like a game you can pump hours and hours into and not get anywhere, you will like this game.

Don't do it. you need to buy the expansions in order to actually be worth anything. so if you buy this, be prepared to spend about $40 more in expansions and DLC that you are forced to buy.

    Addicting FPS MMO

The shooting mechanics of the game are very good. What else would you expect from Bungie? I'm not as big of a fan of the online multipler because most of the good loot drops in player versus environment PvE, rather than player versus player PvP modes. The game mixes elements of MMO to a first person shooter. All three character classes have their benefits and different little nuances to be aware of. I recommend making one of each class to try out all the different classes and see which one you like. Some hardcore gamers will have three of the same character class just to give them more of a chance to be max level by running raids three times with the same character class. Very addicting game that ends up being a grind towards the end. Be ready to drain lots of hours into the game. Much more fun playing with others. The game really starts to go deeper after level 20, where your level progression is based on gear that you get from drops, engrams, or raids. I ended up meeting lots of other guardians playing this game and added a lot more names to my psn friends list.

    Fantastic Game

Graphics 5/5 Sound 5/5 Multiplayer 4/5* Controls 5/5 Story 4/5* Customization 4/5* I sometimes get disconnected when joining a coop mission (my internet speed is good) The story is great but it leaves me wanting more because of the shortage of it. The character customization is good but it leaves you desiring more options than what is given. Maybe once the game has been out longer they will add more options. Overall this game is a great FPS with a touch of RPG and Multiplayer aspects. I love the Cooperative play and the Player Versus Player is awesome as well. I'm not sure how balanced the classes are at this time since the game is so new but it doesn't seem like any one class is a powerhouse.

This is my absolute favorite game. Great storyline, great online play, great weekly updates. Great game if you have multiple friends who love to play an online juggernaut. Raid modes are incredibly fun. This game made me put all other games aside and i still choose it over all my newer released games.

Well I bought Destiny when it came out and it was a really fun game and had such great potential, but then you hit level 20 and it takes forever to level up and all the weekly missions and such are the same missions before just harder. It takes forever to kill bosses and when you die, you get to start that boss over which sucks. I was able to get to level 20 probably within 3 or 4 hours so it doesn't take long at all. I have played by myself, but I have played more with friends which does make it more fun of course, but you end up doing the same things all the time. The story is terrible and I couldn't really follow it. The graphics and the shooting mechanics are pretty good and for all online game it actually does pretty good but they should of made an offline mode too. The loot system to me seems so cheap as you go for so dang long in a mission or strike or whatever and you get something stupid or something you already have or wont use. The PVP is actually pretty fun, but not the best. As well the loading screen is your ship flying in space...well what else is the ship used for. What is the point of getting ships in the game...to show them off at the loading screen...well that is just a dumb idea. I did buy the first 2 expansion passes and well that was a mistake as it seems like there was hardly anything added for the money I paid for them and now this new DLC coming out is $40 ya no thank you. They really want your money it seems like. I will not be purchasing anything else for this game. I would rent if first and see if you like it or just play until you hit level 20. Save your money for something better.

NOTE: for some reason Best Buy has turned my parantheses into pound signs; I can't seem to get around it First of all, the fundamentals of this game are very well made. The shooter mechanics and the visual and aural production values are excellent. However, everything is not tied together very well. The story comes off as kind of cheesy. The writing just isn't good enough to sell it. I guess Bungie was going for a Sci-Fi adventure where everything is so futuristic and/or alien, that things fall into the realm of fantasy, which is perfectly fine, but the writing didn't sell it well enough. It wasn't believable. Now as for the gameplay, for the most part, it reminds me of what I don't like about MMO's, and it lacks the community/communication aspect that would make an MMO more engaging. The missions are repetitive (and as is the nature of an MMO/persistent character building game#, you don't change weapons, gear and ability as part of a level designers vision of how you're going to be challenged throughout the game, instead, you keep the same weapons #or types of weapons# for long periods and you use them because that's what you have, and you swap them based on what you randomly find. So #generally speaking# enemy encounters really can't be tailored with any particular challenge in mind. It's just a bunch of random shooting at stuff. It gets tiring to be honest. I plan on completing the single player game and continuing to play as new content comes out, but I'm not really going to put effort into finding the best gear and what not, because it doesn't really allow me to do anything other than fight other enemies that are simply stronger but otherwise the same as older enemies I've already fought. Now at this point, I should say that this type of game probably does appeal to a bunch of people out there. There is stuff to find, gear to upgrade, skills to level, and adventures to be made of your own volition. It's just that that really has to come from your own motivation and mentality. I don't think the game itself provides enough motivation to see it through if you're not already drawn to this kind of gaming. Now that said, I did end up enjoying the multiplayer a lot more, but it is sort of an odd experience as well. The gear and abilities you earn in single player carry over to multiplayer. So it kind of sucks when you're level 7 and and some other players are like level 24 and almost literally flying around the map with magic powers that can kill players in an instant and have weapons and other special abilities that other players just don't have access to. It kind of works itself out once you also grind the game and level up, and then you too can match them, but still it's a weird choice, and I can see a lot of players getting frustrated and abandoning the multiplayer if they try it too early. I may have played multiplayer too much as I got to level 20 before I was even 1/3 of the way through the single player game. So that sort of might explain my earlier criticisms about the single player game. Now that I'm maxed at level 20 #you can't level up further unless you find special gear#, fighting enemies in the missions seems like a "waste" and many of the enemies aren't challenging anyway because now I have armor and weapons that outmatch them. Thus, I'm just running through, trying to complete the #unfortunately# uninteresting story. I really don't know; maybe it will get a lot better later. I heard that the raid is pretty good, as it actually takes planning, puzzle solving, etc, but I'm not going to organize six friends outside of the game and practice for hours to do it. It's a shame they didn't have more interesting content like that in the single player. It's kind of sad because for the most part, outside of the writing, it's a well made game. It just so happens that it's not very fun. Or perhaps it's just not for me. Maybe the game is what it needs to be. After all, I simply have never found an MMO to be fun, but lots of people enjoy them, so maybe it's just that Destiny is not for a gamer like me.
