Astonishingly perfect
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There are two traditional routes developers can go when making a first-person shooter. One of those would be the Call of Duty way (i.e, short campaign, over zealous multiplayer, unwanted game modes). There's also the infamous alien/zombie/demon shooting range type games that really get boring after the first 3 stages as you begin to wonder why you even waited for a price drop. Bungie did their homework. Destiny is the first game Bungie has produced in a long, long line of Halo games. Dating all the way back to 2001 when Halo: CE defined the Xbox. Comparing Destiny with Halo would be like comparing anything that is perfect with something that is, well, perfect. However, everything Halo isn't, Destiny is. Bungie combined so many elements and so many features into Destiny, it's practically created it's own genre. The game's story line, voice acting are all superb, the social integration is genius and the gameplay itself is unmatched by anything. From the start menu, to the load up of your spacecraft, to the travel of different planets with different enemies and surprises. The game is more of a real-time in and out gaming universe. One moment your struggling to defeat a higher level enemy, the next a fellow guardian (XBL or PSN member respectively) is there to help you win the fight. You never truly complete the game, it's more of an always leveling up, always competing, trying to get that special armor or emblem you're so close to getting type of never ending journey that only ends when you want it to, and quite frankly I don't think there's ever been that kind of game. Destiny is an open universe of possibilities that present's itself like no other game I've ever played. I haven't even completed Destiny's story and I'm psyched knowing this is only the beginning of something great to come from Bungie.

New to shooter games
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm new to the shooter game style of play. With all the games being shooters, I might as well get use to them though. :) I did find that I immensely enjoy this game. The controls are easy. So much so, that a newbie that generally sucks at these kind of games can actually progress without too much fuss. Granted, I have to strategize a little more than your average gamer as I am still getting the hang of using the guns. However, I love the graphics. The voiceovers seem to be really good. There's plenty to do. Overall, the game gets a 5 star for keeping me at it while enjoying it.

Destiny - Pretty, but vapid
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Destiny is a beautiful looking space shooter. It's fun to run around solo - or better - coop with friends - blasting all sorts of bad aliens. But unlike Halo, there are no consequences to the game. No sense of saving people, or winning a war. The story is convoluted and cryptic. You play a hero, but never meet the people you are supposedly protecting. This makes for a particularly empty experience. If you play just for the action, it's fun. If you play for depth of story, you'll find very little in this title.

Fun with friends
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is good if you understand what you're getting before you buy. The story seems a bit short and could have used some more content without having to buy expansions. If you don't have friends that play the game, it probably won't be as much fun for you. The endgame raids don't allow matchmaking so you either have to have 5 friends that play or use websites that are specifically for finding other people that are trying to run raids. Overall it's a good game that you can enjoy with your friends.

Solid shooting
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Don't buy Destiny for the story. It's virtually non-existent. Buy it for the top-notch FPS mechanics and superb multiplayer component. I've experienced some minor issues with server connectivity, and occasionally it's hard to join a fire team with a friend due to server issues, but those problems don't come up very often. While there are multiple planets to explore, the level scale isn't on the scale of Skyrim or Mass Effect, but it's good enough for me. In the end, I love playing this game, and that's what matters.

My destiny, Apparently
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm going to begin with my impression of Destiny when it launched. I pre-ordered this thinking it was going to be this mind-blowing amazing game where you explore planets in the Milky Way galaxy, fight in large interstellar spaceship battles, and collect resources to build and improve your ship and further your expeditions. (Bungie's vague and well crafted trailers didn't help THIS at all.) It is NOT this at all. The only thing I can compare it to is a mix of Halo and Borderlands. Yet, it is so strange and different from both of these games that this comparison only tells what the game looks like and behaves similarly to. After release, I hated it. I felt that Bungie had completely lied about what Destiny was. I actually traded the game. Then came E3 of this year. I saw the Taken King and I was thinking, "WHY DID I TRADE THAT?!!?" I repurchased this with the knowledge of what Destiny is, not what Bungie made us think it was. You are a Guardian, the last bits of the light from the Traveler, a very literally named Space orb that not much is known about. Still, you adventure on (relatively small) areas of Venus, Earth, Mars, and the Moon finding cool gear and killing ever bigger and tougher bosses. You can even go and play Crucible, a slightly unbalanced way to play PvP in Destiny. Despite its issues, there does seem to be a large amount of players, even if you can't find them in the free roam areas often. Still, Bungie does take care of the game and its players. They recently passed the Year Two update, fixing some of the problems. They changed the leveling system from a fight to gather gear and improve your light level, to gathering xp and allowing players to easily get to level 40. The original story (or lack of) hasn't changed, but the Taken King DLC does add a well written and entertaining story (in my humble opinion. You may hate it. Who knows?). Ironically, I now really like the game and play it a lot. Like the title says, it was apparently my destiny to start playing Destiny again.

Great game, falls short of potential
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a massive game full of rich detail, cutting edge graphics, and an impressive amount of weapons, abilities, and armor. As great as it is, it could have been so much more. The story is lacking detail and it can get repetitive after a while, forcing you to really grind for hours to get to the highest level. Still an amazing game overall and has the potential to be the best game of the decade if the right tweaks are made via DLC.

Great experience and balance of Call of Duty/Halo
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Destiny is a great new IP that makes its mark for the MMO market on home consoles. It borrows a lot of ideas from other MMOs and builds upon the foundation to create the PC experience on console. However that doesn't mean that some parts of the game aren't lacking. After reaching the level cap I can say that I am really enjoying the game as a whole. A decent campaign, robust competitive multiplayer and cooperative missions are what Destiny has to offer as some game modes play better than others, but all together its worth it. My only gripes with the game is the main story and the character classes. The game takes its self way too seriously in creating a worthwhile story. Sometimes I'd forget why I'm on a certain planet or forget what had happened two chapters ago. As for the character classes they all seem too similar besides the power button that they are assigned. Long loading times are also a little annoying. Other than that though its a really great game to play, especially with friends!

Bungie's now has wings to go with it's Halo
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Now ...everyone has heard the reviews about how Bungie didn't deliver this MMO of a 1st person shooter and well to be honest... they we're right. It's not an MMO like an Elder Scrolls or WOW, but I think "Shared World Shooter" does it justice for a description. Granted I fore one was hoping for something with solo ability with others who you could join up with IF you wanted to. However, this I definitely not how destiny works. You DEFINITELY NEED friends ...more to the point at least six that's right 6!!! to take advantage of all that the game has to offer ...I"M looking at you RAIDS !!! I know it can be daunting ... I have exactly 6 friends who can manage to get on the same time as me , and to be frank sometimes we can't even finish some of the raids completely in one session due to their length...OK.....I touched on the Bad now the GOOD as to why I gave it 5 stars ..... it' kind of lame and corny my reason, but the game is just fun ... because of friends. There are great albeit sometimes to frustrating of challenges in the game...see Bungies roll out of Prison Of Elders live run ...yeah *spoiler* ...they failed. period end of story ... they wiped and they didn't even get to the boss... But see right there is what makes this fun because you and your friends beat what others couldn't ... you get frustrated with each other when things fail and you yell like fan boys when you win ! This game pulls it from you .. you know you've earned bragging rights and to go to the Tower ( Common Zone) to Show off your new Swag ... Oh I do have one more major gripe ....GIVE PETER DINKLEDGE MORE LINES AND SOMETHING WITH DEPTH !!!!

So close, but yet so far away
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A lot of people have waited a long time for their Destiny. The convergence and collaboration of two legendary game companies – Bungie, the original creators and developers of Halo, and Activision, the publishers and owners of the World of Warcraft IP – was bound to produce a truly epic experience. For most of those people, though, that experience is still something in the future. It hasn’t happened yet. The long-awaited game Destiny really would not have needed the need the help of Activision’s publicity machine to generate a lot of hype, but the machine did its thing nevertheless, and in hindsight it feels like we’ve been the victims of a bait-and-switch. We were promised this amazing, deep, groundbreaking, genre-defining experience, but what we received is something else entirely. It’s actually pretty hard to convey exactly what Destiny is. When you look back on what we were told to expect, it seems like it might be easier to say what Destiny is not. Destiny is kind of like World of Warcraft in some ways, except it’s not. It wants to be an MMO, but there is no player communication outside of pre-made groups, or fire teams. It wants to have a crafting system, but what it actually has instead is another thin layer of player development. You can’t create a new item of any kind; only improve existing loot you’ve already obtained through luck or reputation grinds. The social aspects of Destiny are disappointingly limited; like a lot of other areas of the game, it feels very stunted. There is no guild or clan mechanism, no direct means of forming an alliance longer than the current firefight, and no trade. Despite all the character development Bungie expects you to do, you can’t trade any item with any other player under any circumstances. One positive aspect of this is that all loot drops, even ammo, are distinct to each player – so there’s no hoarding or griefing in that regard. Whatever you’ve got is whatever you’ve looted, purchased or earned from NPCs. Destiny is very much like Halo, except it’s not. Its Haloesque gameplay is the same that has hooked everyone for over ten years. The level design, artwork control, combat mechanics, and visuals are absolutely top notch. The intense action, clever AI, balanced difficulty and grueling PvP matches are all there, and they all feel like Halo with only slightly different IP. But one of the most critical hallmarks of every Halo game ever released by Bungie, the story telling, is conspicuously absent from Destiny. Rather, we get bits and pieces and hints and scraps of what feels like a lot of very interesting and complex storylines, all of which have somehow been woven together to create the main plot and setting. A lot of disappointed people have said, ‘there’s no story at all!’, but in fact there are many teases of many different, very intriguing stories. It’s just that none of it – none of it all – has been developed at all. Like so many other aspects of Destiny, the lack of story and the barely-inferred plotlines leave the feeling that the folks at Bungie must have been interrupted in the middle of creating something epic, and Destiny is what we got instead. To paraphrase Corey Taylor from Slipknot, it’s like sitting down at an incredible feast at the banquet table where you can see and smell the food, but you can’t touch the silverware. But Bungie and Activision are not finished yet – not by a long shot, I suspect. We’re told they have a 10-year plan for this new IP, and you may safely believe there are budgets and sprint teams and resources and expansion plans tied to the business end of this thing. I expect that if sales of Destiny are meeting Activision’s internal plans –and maybe even if they’re not – we will eventually get a chance to get a lot more of the experience as it was originally intended by the folks who have doubtlessly worked long and hard to bring us Destiny as it exists today. Despite all of its shortcomings, there’s still something compelling about Destiny. The actual gameplay, which is the meat-and-bones of every successful game and the most critical element of any game, is rock solid, and it’s still as addictive as ever.

Almost perfect
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Destiny is a great shooter/RPG. You can tell that it is an epic game just by playing it. I can say that I will be getting the next one, but probably not at full price. I would gladly pay $35 for this game and did. There isn't much story involved, after beating it I still felt a bit lost, but I was satisfied with gameplay, throw in a good story and this is a must-have instant classic.

Great Game, lots of fun
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have played a lot of online games but this one is a lot of fun, even in the foreseeable future. I like that there is plenty to do when playing Solo and the automatic matchmaking makes it so much easier do to multi player levels. I log on for an hour or two without getting sucked into some long drawn out mission. It can get a little repetitive if grinding for experience and gear but I think you get with with any MMO

Fizzled fast
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Starts off great and draws you in but soon fades after the constant repetition of missions and weak multiplier get become stale. The story is fun but seems to go by rather fast. A flash in the pan but becomes a let down soon after as the reliance on weak DLC releases and a draw to play more for weapons and armor are to draw players in for the long haul.

Fun Game to Play With Friends
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Destiny is a fun game to play with friends but can be a bit boring playing on your own. The storyline of the game doesn't really exist, so much of the game takes place with interacting with other players as they too try to complete quests, strikes, and missions. Online battle arena multiplayer in The Crucible is alot of fun

Great Game!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The graphics on this game are awesome! The controls feel similar to Halo and the gameplay is very fun. While some think the game is repetitive I still enjoy it because there are so many ways to complete the same task. The game does reward those that play for longer time periods, so the casual gamer may not get as much out of this as others will.

Great game at the moment
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've only played around 10-15 hrs I'd think, but so far it seems like a good game. Lots of multiplayer scenarios, weapons and armor are cool, story line seems decent at the moment although I haven't finished it. Some people say it's too short, but I've been jumping between that and multiplayer aspects. Have to wait to see if deserves year long attention as I've typically played Call of Duty games off and on for the entire year until the next in the series comes out. The only drawback to the story is some of it seems Halo-esque. A little robot (a ghost)? Seems like the 343 droid or whatever it was. Ancient evil, etc.. I know it's Bungie, but come on...deviate from Halo.

Lacking Story but great PvE and PVP
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It takes some time to get into the game but once you do it will keep you come back for more! The story doesn't really go anyway for the game, but daily and weekly challenges make up for it. And with a long deal in place you can look forward to DLC and keep playing for a couple more years.
