great game, but doesn't quite live up to the hype

I was super excited for this game. The hype surrounding it made it out to be amazing, and to an extent it is. The graphics and gameplay are awesome, and it can be a great social experience. My only qualm is that the story was underwhelming to me. I was expecting an elegant and long storyline such as in the halo series. What I got was a bunch of barely linear missions with little background. I have completed the story missions and I still know next to nothing about the traveler, the city, and the past.

This game far exceeded my expectations, and continues to do so on a daily basis as I complete more strikes, and missions. With having up to 3 characters, that even expands the game further. Can't wait to get started on my other classes!

I wasn't super motivated to get this game because I felt like it was too much like Halo, I was mistaken. I purchased it only because it was on a super sale on Black Friday. I haven't stopped playing since I got it!

It's a fun game to play, and the learning curve for it doesn't take too long. It definitely has the Halo feel that Bungie is so good at. My only wish is that the campaign had more levels and a tighter storyline.

I'm a big halo fan and really enjoyed this game. It was a little quirky with it's online connection and that slowed things down at times. The gameplay was easy to learn, and the game was challenging enough to keep you interested.

Destiny is the spiritual sequel to Halo being made by Bungie the original creators of Halo. With this game it has evolved giving a nod to Borderlands which gives it a few RPG elements like upgradable guns, armor, and numbers to say how much damage is being done to the enemy. This makes it feel like progress is being made. The environments are expansive with all the missions taking place on a couple huge seamless maps each which is supposed to represent a different planet. At first this is strange, but later will give a feel like we really are invading an alien world. The graphics of each planet are breathtaking and unique, but not too unique. The few areas that Destiny does not exceed in is few. This includes it's stories length which playtime wise seems to take about 10 to 14 hours to beat, depending on how long your drool at the foliage, but story progression wise does not go that far. This is probably due to the 2 expansion packs that were announced before the game was released. Taking place on other planets it could have also added another play dynamic where the gravity would have been different on each planet. This seems like a big fail and takes one out of the belief that it really is another world. The multiplayer seems to make up for all of that as more and more multiplayer options seem to open up as it's played more. The multiplayer keeps evolving as more and more of the skills for the player gets unlocked and it's fun to try out each new ability. If your deciding which version to get I'd say get the one that most of your friends are playing as it does not have cross platform support and it does not support split screen. You can switch your account between old gen and new gen on xbox and playstation, but not between ps and xbox. If you only have an old gen system don't worry. The xbox 360 version is said to be one of the most beautiful games on the xbox 360. Overall it's a must play game if you are a fan of Halo or Borderlands.

My opinion....this is the best game ive played from next gen consoles. Story was a little short, but in no way does that mean that there isnt anything to do...once you finish the campaign, you have strike missions, crucible matches, leveling up your characters (theres 3 different types) and TONS of stuff to collect/farm for. weapons loot, gear, upgrade your weapons, upgrade your characters powers, and once you reach a certain level, RAIDS!!! harder than the hardest bosses you previously played, so strap in, gear up and have fun!

I purchased this game back in September and haven't stopped playing it yet. Halo is the game franchise that got me started in gaming and Destiny has that similar feel. There's plenty of things that keep you coming back for more.

I enjoy every part of this game except for the fact that you must be connected to the internet for it to work. For most people this isn't problematic, but no internet provider will provide service to my house so I'm mostly screwed. I really like that the game is a mixture of a shooter and an MMORPG. You get the fast pace feel of a Call of Duty or Halo, mixed with the satisfaction of always grinding out experience to get new equipment or abilities. The graphics are OUT OF THIS WORLD.

At first, the world of destiny seems vast and different from other shooters. It stays a great shooter with nice vertical elements and a good upgrade system, but as of right now the game is short. unless you have someone to play with this game does not have a whole lot of replay value unless you want to play multiplayer until they add more stuff online. overall the game was great while it lasted, i just wish there was more to do or to keep me going. it is best to play with a friend.

I have got to say that this is one of the best games on Xbox One so far. I've heard that a lot of people are dissing the game for being too short, bad story, bad loot system, blah, blah, blah. Well, to reassure you- if you treat this game like an RPG Shooter, then that's what you're going to get. However, if you treat it like and MMO, you'll have endless fun. The story is there, if you pay attention, the game starts once you hit lvl. 20, and does it get interesting once you start the Raid and start getting the real loot.

    Halo meets Borderlands/Diablo, very cool!

First of all this a great game. It is similar to the Borderlands series in many ways but I would argue that it is better because of the Bungie/Halo pedigree. The gameplay is very Halo-esque but considerably more open. The levels are very large and have a lot of distractions along the way to spend time with and very little of the game feels repetitive even though in truth you are often retracing your steps mission to mission on the same planet. While the game is short for an RPG (20 is max level at this point and you can finish the story and hit level 20 in maybe 20 hours played) it does have considerable depth in other areas and will continue to be developed over time by Bungie. The boss encounters are remarkably difficult at times and feel like a FPS version of MMORPG boss encounters. This can be very frustrating at times but also getting them down feels very satisfying as a result. I guess the only knock here would be that the bosses seem to have way too many hitpoints and there are too many encounters in which have ridiculous numbers of smaller monsters flooding in from all sides as you fight. Encounters that should only last say 5-10 minutes can take up to 30 minutes as a result. There is also very little downtime/busywork between boss encounters too so you will spend a lot of time doing what matters and not the fluff in between. PvP is fun but not especially different or unique in the FPS genre. What is most fun is the variety of opponents you will face (different classes, specs, and weapons) even if the levels and game modes are not especially enticing compared to other games. I am tempted to give this game a strong 5 stars and I am still anxious to play this game daily (which is a big statement for my short attention span) but I think the lack of truly unique PvP, tediousness of some boss fights and the shortness of the initial story are worth deducting a star.

Destiny is a game reminiscent of Halo gameplay wise but its also different with many things you can buy like ships, guns, and armor which is awesome but it has a really lame story with a disappointing length but with the diverse classes you might find some replay value so its a pretty good game and i hope the expansion packs bring some better value in the story then the base game did

I have never had a bad experience with any Lego named game. This one lies up to that same reputation. What could be better than Lego's? A Lego's game with Batman in it.

The best parts of this game come once you complete the main story. The Raids and strikes are some of the most fun I've ever had in any game. If you're more of a lone wolf I suggest looking elsewhere.

Best game ever made, most anticipated of all time, the game to end all games! These... Are the things I heard numerous people shouting as we waited in the long, and staggering midnight launch line. While I certainly cannot agree with any of those crazy statements, I can say that I've burned more hours on this game than I EVER have on any console game, I've ever purchased in the past... To me, it is very enjoyable and "fun" to jump in and game with friends. That being said, this game requires you have at LEAST a couple friends to play with. It's very important to have a few buddies you can invite to enjoy the rough-housing. It is very easy to make friends through the destiny companion cell phone app, so be sure to pick that up, as it is free. Raid missions and weekly/daily strikes make it a necessity to have good team-work, but also make you feel that the hours of time invested were well worth the final result. This game is hard, it requires HOURS of grind time, and it has a VERY RANDOM REWARD system. If you don't have hours to apply to this game, it is NOT for you... It is also ONLINE ONLY, so if you don't have internet, or if you loose internet frequently, this game will anger you greatly. Bungie feels very involved and dedicated to the game, and the community. It's a huge plus to have the developers act like they can actually hear you. Overall, I love this game. It's rewarding, it's fun, and it's different. The gamers out there that look for strong story in a game will be disappointing with this one, however, because the story is VERY short, staggered, and written poorly. This game is more about a "universe" that's already functioning, and you're merely jumping right in the middle of it. There is no start, and there is no end. It just... is? I give this game a solid 7/10. Very enjoyable. Following Best buy's stars system, I'd say 3.5/5
