Definitely not as fun as the original Pokémon games. It’s very boring.

If you wanna see Nintendo try and fail at a more cinematic game, look no further.

Anyone who's played about an hour of this will know that TIM! phrase. Repeated over and over again until you click on Pikachu. I know it's telling me Pikachu has something to tell me -- just sometimes I'm browsing the other new info screens first, and don't want to interrupt that flow just to hear him say 'here's what we should do next" when I already kind-of knew what to do next. It the little impatient cute guy just said it once, I'd know "Pikachu" has something so say, I'll get to that when I'm done with these info screens. But no, he just keeps saying it over and over like a child wanting ice cream. ice cream, Ice Cream, ICE CREAM! (he doesn't actually say that, and he does appreciate good coffee, which I can respect...) This is a fun game aimed at kids or young adults, Older adults like me may enjoy it too. Of course the crimes are non-fatal and mostly result in upset Pokemon and humans, often blaming each other, and you have to figure it out (while finding your missing father...) It's a good story for a mix of ages. it is linear except when you explore an area, you can talk to people in random order. Be aware that sometimes the next dialog choice doesn't come up until you talk to somebody else, or ask Pikachu (whether you wanted to or not). Overall a good and new style of game for this franchise, except for minor annoyance (would give it 4.5 stars if I could.)

    Surprisingly Sweet and Well-Made

I'm about halfway into this title and I'm really enjoying it. At times it feels like an interactive movie as much as a game, with pre-rendered cutscenes and voice-acted conversations taking up a lot of the play time. But especially for a kid who's new to mystery games, I'd say this would be a great choice. It's not too demanding with frequent hints from Pikachu and an optional Easy Mode, and there's no punishment for getting any sections wrong. As an adult and longtime Pokemon fan, I was really impressed with the creative direction here. The city where the game takes place is full of people and Pokemon living side-by-side, and that gets used in some really creative ways. A lot more thought went into this than the typical, main-series approach of "Everyone you meet wants to talk about battling and nothing else". This felt like a sort of fun spin-off of the anime world I always wanted to visit as a kid. Give it a try.

Fun game, too much hand holding

This is the most modern Pokémon game you will find and it's the best looking Pokémon game on the 3DS and it plays great. The biggest complaint against this game is that the story is truly on rails. While you are supposed to be investigating and deducing facts, the story guides you every step of the way, and even if you make a wrong choice, it guides you back; it keeps you to the rails. While I am enjoying the story and overall gameplay, it feels like its target audience is 6-12. Fun to play through once, but definitely no replay value at all. The biggest redeeming value to the game is Pikachu himself. He is a completely different character than the anime, and he alone makes me want to go back and solve another mystery.

Game was very easy. I believe this would be more for the younger crowd but the older fans would enjoy this adventure in the world of Pokemon.
