## What’s new? If you’re coming from the OM 4, you’re probably interested in what’s new with the OM 5. - Extension rod: There is now a built-in selfie stick in the DJI OM 5 to help you more easily capture selfies. The controls are still within easy reach so you can move the gimbal and snap a picture or video easily. The extension rod extends to about 8.5 inches. - Smaller battery: Unfortunately, battery life has been reduced from 15 hours on the OM 4 to about 6 hours on the OM5. - ActiveTrack 4.0: The ActiveTrack feature has been upgraded from version 3.0 found on the OM 4, which provides faster responsiveness when tracking people. - Lighter design: The OM 5 is 25% lighter compared to the OM 4, with a slightly smaller design. - No magnetic sticker: The OM 4 included a “sticker” for the magnetic mount that you could permanently attach to the back of your phone, which I’m assuming many people did not use. The OM5 includes the clamp magnetic mount only. ## Performance The OM 5 does a great job of stabilizing your phone’s camera to add smooth pans and movement to your recordings. The OM 5 seems to provide about the same stabilization as the OM 4 as there are still up and down movements when walking and it won’t completely smooth out a shaky hand. So don’t buy the OM 5 expecting “stronger” stabilization over the OM 4. I tested ActiveTrack 4.0 on a stationary object (a small pond) while walking around it with the hopes of getting a smooth pan with the pond centered (something I do often with the DJI Mavic Air 2 drone). Unfortunately, the footage ended up jittery. I don’t believe this was a failure of the gimbal itself, but instead a failure of the ActiveTrack algorithms trying to keep track of the pond. When performing the same walk around the pond without ActiveTrack, the footage was smooth. Therefore, it appears the ActiveTrack feature works better when tracking moving objects, such as a person or a pet. The Dynamic Zoom feature worked much better for me on stationary objects and I was able to create some really nice videos with it. Each of the features show a nice introductory video on what the feature does and how to use it, although I sometimes had trouble with the videos loading when on a cellular connection. ## Battery Life As noted earlier, battery life is somewhat reduced on the OM 5 to about 6 hours. I would likely never exceed this limit on a day trip (and don’t plan on storing 6 hours of HD video on my phone), so I’m actually in favor of the shorter battery life for the lighter design. In between shots, you can double-tap the power button to enter “standby” mode to further preserve battery life. Plus, you could always bring a power bank to charge the OM 5 while out and about. ## Summary Overall, the biggest improvement found in the OM 5 in my opinion is the extension rod (selfie stick) that allows you to more easily get a group shot or simply get a higher view. The OM 5 does a great job of capturing smooth video much like the OM 4. Battery life is shorter at just over 6 hours, but I believe the lighter and smaller design make up for it.

Even with super-advanced smartphone cameras that include stabilizers, shooting pictures requires a separate stabilization device designed to do its purpose like this DJI OM 5. I have iPhone 13 Pro Max, and I have never complained about the quality of pictures, but to get better stabilization and creative videos using DJI Mimo on a smartphone, this DJI OM 5 gimbal is the tool you need. It is lightweight, foldable, and pocketable with a magnetic phone holder, which is fantastic, and it fits my iPhone 13 Pro Max and 13 mini perfectly. Unlike its predecessor model that I also own, this model has an extension rod for selfies, and it extends to provide better picture shooting. The active track is very accurate, and it follows selected objects in real-time. The combination of using the DJI gimbal and the minim app is where the creative work is revealed. The Mimo app provides a variety of modes to take pictures or shoot video clips professionally with guidance and tutorials. Great tool for people who want creative and unique pictures/ videos. I never owned one of these things before but I was curious about it, and said to myself why people buy this? After using this DJI OM5 I realized this gimbal has its purpose. Whether you're a pro or even a novice like myself, this thing is very useful when it comes to recording or taking shots. I had to play with it for a while to get the hang of and become familiar with all the buttons and functions. Something that definitely will not go unnoticed it is very lightweight. Even with the phone attached (Note 20 Plus) I was able to use this thing for over an hour without getting my arm tired. I wonder how they manage to cram a motor, selfie stick and a rechargeable battery and still be this lightweight. This OM5 is not only a gimbal but it also has a builtin selfie stick. There is not too much science to use this thing just attach the magnet clamp to your phone then attach to the gimbal and start being creative. If you have never used this before I’ll recommend going over the tutorials included in the DJI software, that way you learn all the buttons functions. You have to use the dedicated DJI software to use this gimbal and all it’s features. If you’re using android and the app from the Google play store doesn't work for you, try downloading the APK from the manufacturer by scanning the QR code included in the manual, that worked for me. The software has a lot of useful features that will help you create content. This not only can be used while you're moving and keeps your videos super stable, but also with the included tripod you can create content while being static. A great feature included into the software is the ability to track a subject. What it does is the gimbal will track you, it will rotate or even tilt itself if you lower yourself to the ground, which is pretty cool. I recorded a video while riding a bicycle and honestly that’s where this gimbal really shines. The video was so stable you would not know it was recorded with this and the selfie stick was extended. You can also use gestures to start and stop videos or take camera shots. There are so many features in this thing to list them all. One of the things I wish it had is auto zoom, it already has auto tracking but doesn’t zoom automatically. This can swivel, turn and tilt pretty much into any position but it has its limitations. When it tilts to a certain extent and when it turns it will not go all the way (360) but far enough, I will say more than 180 degrees. Videos on the DJI software were capped to 1080p and 30fps. Overall this DJI OM5 is a cool device not only for creators but also regular users who just want to take cool shots while on a trip or day to day. You can be very creative with this and you don’t have to be a professional. In the box it comes with the OM5 gimbal, magnetic phone clamp, spacer, tripod, USBC cable, carrying bag, and manuals.

Videos are everywhere. So are crude shaky shots that might have been wonderful had the correct stabilizer been used. With the 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer from DJI, anyone can produce great quality rock solid video. The gimbal is the secret to success. A magnet coupling makes it easy to connect your phone to the OM5. The remote hand held handle allows from thumb control of most panning and zooming thanks to Bluetooth connectivity. My unit came with a lapel mic for better sound recording and the hand-held stick telescopes out for greater video images of groups or while moving in a crowd. Free included software makes everyone a pro cinemaphotographer. The rechargeable remote sits nicely on an included tripod and is easy to carry in the included bag. Everything ready to go in one place when you are.

As someone who records a lot on my phone this is a great tool. I am not a professional by any means but this certainly helps me look like one. I have a one year old who is walking so my videos of her doing so were a bit shaky. With the OM5, my videos of her are smooth and seamless. First off, the unit when the phone attached is not heavy at all which is great for extended recording. As for controls, the follow feature is excellent but keep in mind it is on you to keep the subject in the frame. My daughter is fast and has run out of the frame unexpectedly so I was not ready to follow and the camera lost her. I don’t believe this is fault of the unit at all as in normal circumstances the camera follows with no issues. The included tripod is a nice tool allowing us to record for blogging without having to worry about holding the camera. It allows for a hands free experience especially for someone like me who has been told I talk with my hands. Lol In regards to panning, it is super smooth and I have had no issues at all. I have an iPhone XS and it holds extremely well and I have no worries about the phone falling off. Overall, this is a great tool for anyone who enjoys creating videos. It will give you an edge over anyone who simply handholds their phone while they video as video will be much more smooth as opposed to hand held. Overall, this is a great product.

Where was this five years ago? The massive DSLR camera gimble I was using makes this DJI OM 5 look like a keychain. This OM 5 is lightweight, compact, and easy to operate. Great for vlogs, product reviews, and everything in between. Buy it!

lovely product!! The DJI Osmo is a compact marvel, delivering exceptional stabilization and smooth video footage. I really love this product. I picked it up to create videos of new homes hitting the market to advertise open houses in the Austin market. I was able to make fun and stable videos and using the accompanying app was easy and made editing a breeze. The app offers several tutorial videos, tips and tricks and editing features. The motion detection feature is also a welcome addition. If your looking for a dynamic, adaptive gimbal this is a great option.

I was looking forward to using this but sadly, I can not. Not compatible with my Samsung S20 5G+... Not the end of the world, I have an old Pixel 3. Charged it up, [paired it... Nope. Not compatible. OK, I'll try my sons LG. Nope. Not compatible. Out of the box, quality feels decent, setup was simple. And that's all I can ay about it since it will not work with any phone in my house. Another note after extensive research, it seems most users note that the app and hardware are much more useful and feature rich with Apple products than with Android environment. I'll throw in the pictures so you can see what sadly will turn into a door stop as it will not work with any phones in my in my house. If you consider this product please learn from my mistake... So overall, this is a pretty fun gimbal to have. The easy of use is very simplified and getting use to the controls is also very easy. I’ve shot about 30 hours of footage and the stability and active face tracking is on point. The only real negative thing I see is if and when you are shooting and go too far it makes a weird shuttering effect and it does capture that whilst recording. Centering the phone if need be is also very smooth. You do have to learn to slow your pace when turning corners in order to capture a gradual effect.

If you like using your smartphone as a camera to creat video or take pictures, then you almost definitely need a gimbal. DJI is one of the leaders in that space. This gimbal is their 5th iteration of mobile phone gimbals and they have included some of their experiences from the last to this one. The OM5 is really compact and light. I am coming from a Osmo 2 that only now stopped working and probably from a drop. Don’t drop your gimbal. The OM5 is pretty easy to use with or without DJI’s suggested software (DJI Mimo app). The App has some pretty good features but you don’t have to use it. I suggest you give it a try. This go around they include a tri-pod stand for placing it on a table, or other surface, and a carrying pouch. I am admittedly a sucker for pouches. I really like this one. So far the battery life has been good. And the motors seem pretty strong. I would recommend this to any mobile phone photo or video aficionado. You will love your stories and other short video clip site posts with this. You can even do some heavier cinematography if you really want to try your hand at it. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that this version has an extension rod built in. So it is a gimbal selfie stick. you will enjoy it if that is your flavor.

This is my daily product now. What a beautiful product this is and how easy it is to control it. With the app it makes life so easy. I have used it while running, hiking and can say for sure this won’t mess with you or your expensive phones. Very stable and very precise. I am so glad to have this product.♥️

This gimbal is great! We use it to record rc trucks and make video content and it works well, doesn’t hesitate when moving around and is very easy to use

This may be something many people don’t know they need. If you are tapping into video production or love taking selfies this is a must have. It’s easy to use and keeps a fairly descent charge.

This is just another great product by DJI. The telescopic selfie stick is one of the best features. I am able to get great faux jib shots with ease along with the ease to get footage above crowds with great stability. Another great feature is the tripod attachment. I can sit the tripod down and get a great calibration on the gimbal or I can set it to gesture mode and use the tripod to take a group photo. Once you start to use the OM 5 Gimbal you will start to look for what you can shoot next. It is a tool that I take everywhere.
