    Green Day - Dookie

Green Day is an American rock band formed in 1986 by lead vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong and bassist Mike Dirnt. For much of the band's career, they have been a trio with drummer Tré Cool, who replaced John Kiffmeyer in 1990. In 1994, their major label debut Dookie, released through Reprise Records, became a breakout success and eventually shipped over 10 million copies in the U.S., Green Day is credited alongside fellow California punk bands including Sublime, Bad Religion, the Offspring and Rancid with popularizing mainstream interest in punk rock in the United States. Great album.

In my opinion this album is better than Nimrod! The stand out songs are, Longview. Welcome to Paradise, Basket Case and When I Cone Around!

This was a replacement for a CD I bought 20 plus years ago, my 16 year old daughter has taken the original and plays it regularly so it was either try to steal it back or buy another, this was the less painful route. I like their whole library but Dookie is my favorite album of theirs. Lots of great hits with good beats and catchy tunes, not many "B" sides if you know what I mean.

Originally purchases this CD back in in 90's when it came out, been without it somehow, but had to rescoop on sale. Great now as it was then. I'm definitely old school and prefer tangible media, but this is just a GREAT ALBUM and takes me take to 90's before responsibility became a necessity. Road to days past with great tunes makes the day better.

    The rise of Green Day

This album landed on the scene like a bomb, if one will pardon the pun, and at least for this listener, it didn't sound like "dookie". A refreshing blend of introspective vocals accompanied by a unique sound, Green Day is a band that resonates with substance. Every song on this album is a joy to listen to, which is a feat few bands accomplish.

While it's true that Green Day will never be accused of originality or innovation, and that they are basically a lighter, pop version of late-70s/early-80s punk bands, "Dookie" is full of catchy melodies and youthful energy. Add the entertaining videos produced for some of the songs, and it really is a lot of fun. Don't go into it expecting the technical prowess of Dream Theater or the refined, thought-provoking lyrics of Rush, and you'll enjoy it. Oh, and play it loud.

As a teenager when this came out, I tried to act too cool for it. It was commercial punk and couldn't hold a candle to its 1977 forbearers. But listening again years later, I have a kinder, fondly nostalgic view - these are nice, melodic, muscular tunes.

One of the better albums to just listen to the whole thing. This along with Sixteen Stone from Bush and Throwing Copper from Live are classics.

This album was on sale in the store and I couldn't resist but picking it up after losing my copy a decade earlier. Arguably one of the most iconic albums of punk rock ever.

This album reminds me of my younger bro, Caleb, especially when he was just becoming a teenager. (Go figure) Going through adolescence in So-Cal actually wasn't easy, despite all the glamour and ritzy glitter that our state puts out socially, especially through the youth.
