I have yet to finish the single player portion of this game. While I will at some point, I am just not enthused about it. I recently borrowed Doom (2016) from a friend. I blew through it, it was a great run and gun experience. So one would think any improvement to this formula would also be a great game. This game is a mess!!! I would love to see the conversation around the planning table for this game. And who thought adding all of these convoluted game mechanics in was a good idea. Gone is the infinite ammo pistol so when you run out of ammo you automatically switch to your trusty chainsaw, which now is not so trusty. The chainsaw will mow down three of one type of enemy, only one of another type, and anything bigger then that they leave with your pants down and laugh at you. Haha you don't have enough fuel for this enemy. Now whether there is an upgrade to fuel capacity or not I do not know. But at the point I am in the game I find myself running out of ammo while toe to toe with a Hell Knight so to have this worthless thing pop up to do nothing. You now have a Predator style shoulder mounted grenade launcher, which is almost redundant to a shotgun upgrade. You can light enemies on fire to make them drop armor. You can glory kill enemies to charge your infinity-like gauntlet to unleash a smashing side slap that disses out "massive" damage. Hey you like Assassin's Creed and parkour? Watcgph as we try to incorporate this into this 3D environment. Wall climb, and swing off pipes. Why? Good question. Certain enemies have weak point that you can shoot out, but in the midst of trying to set on fire, glory kill, super punch, not chainsaw, running out of ammo it gets cumbersome to shoot an antenna sized cannon of the back of the head of son of motherbrain. Bottom line, I do not enjoy this game. I hate the new play mechanics, the story is not explained at all how this connects to the previous game.

I loved Doom 2016 and this is a very worthy follow up. Hugely recommended to people who miss great single player FPS.
