I have enjoyed my time with this game I'm not a huge dragon quest fun but playing in increments of 30 minutes to an hr is a pretty good pace to enjoy it

Excellent JRPG with intriguing story and deep customization. It can overstay it’s welcome, but is worth the many hours it takes to complete.

A DQ staple, but not necessarily a PS4 must-have

A fine classical RPG, but very slow to develop for a game in the Dragon Quest series. But if you can make it past the 10 hour mark, the story improves greatly and becomes a very enjoyable game. As always, naming puns are a great joy in the series and this one doesn't disappoint in that regard. However, I didn't find the "Edition of Light" version's DLC to be all that impressive compared to other "Day One" DLC packs. Dragon Quest veterans will like it, but for rookies to the series, VIII for the PS2 or 3DS makes for a better introductory game.

Have yet to play much of this one. Little bit of a slow start, but looks great, and send like it will have an engaging story.

This game is excellent. If you've never played a DQ game I'd watch videos (Kotaku review is pretty good) and do some research to make sure it's what youre looking for. I'd only ever played DQ builders, and my modern jrpg experience is limited to Persona, but this is exactly what I was craving.

A simplistic JRPG good for kids

This is my first Dragon Quest game and it seems pretty simplified compared to other long running JRPG series, it def seems like it is made for young children with the simplicity, automation, and over the top voice work. The story is pretty cliche but still fun. The voice acting is very.... strange, it has that old school over acting kind of voice work that was much more prevalent in the late 90s early 2000s. I'm 30 hours in and haven't really had any challenge but I've heard it can get challenging towards the end. Every new teammate you get is auto set to being computer controlled which makes them invincible so I always have to set them to manual as soon as I'm able to at least get some challenge. Also guest team members are always computer controlled and will shower you with healing potions/ spells making it all but impossible to die.
I'm not really a fan of the menu system. There's no pause menu and instead the option button turns auto movement on where the computer will automatically make your character run straight at the next objective, even if there are obstacles in the way. Instead you have to hit triangle and go through a series of menus while the game remains live in the BG.
TL:DR- A very simplistic JRPG that can almost be fully automated. Def seems to be made for children with a "my first jrpg" vibe.

A fun RPG, combat is the classic DQ turn-based system which is great. Story is good, music is bad but you'll get used to it.

It's been a long time since a new dragon quest on a console, much less in the US at all. It's a great game, that if you're a fan of the series you're sure to like. It's a good entry for new comers too, it's a very classic style JRPG, so if you're into those you'll like it as well.

Dragon Quest is THE quintessential JRPG series. For fans, this entry delivers all they’ve come to expect. The enemies, weapon types, skills, and spells known throughout the series are on full display here. Another great adventure to get lost in.

One of the most fun games I have played. Because of the cartoony feel my kids even asked me to play which is not normally a time I get to play games.

If you are a fan of dragon quest or are just looking to play a turn based rpg you will love this game. It has an optional selection of "handicaps" to make the game harder and more strategic, or just play it on normal and enjoy a great story with fun exploring and combat.

This is not your typical Dragon Warrior game, but if you like past incarnations, you will enjoy the past references.
