To me it seems like the PS4 controller under normal use not dropping or being ruff on it the normal tend to last about 6 months to a year before the battery doesn't hold a very good charge, button start to stick or something like that starts to act up. The PS3 controller was alot better made and sturdy the Xbox one controller is also alot better made and you can change the battery in it. I have owned the PS4 since day one release normally have two to three controllers at a time and I think I have owned any where from 8 to 10 controllers. I just feel like they should last longer than they do for what they cost. I would highly recommend the geek squad protect for what little extra it cost and if you do have a problem you can just exchange it for a new one.
