Do You Zombie Techland?

Dying Light has all the charms of a Techland title and this one allows you traverse an open world bog down with the undead at every turn. In this world, you struggle to scavenge all you can to survive against an array of zombies and yes even the living are a threat. The game does fall into the fetch quest arena, however, and the storyline is so-so but the game is overall fun to explore. If you played the first zombie game from Techland called Dead Island and liked it you will definitely enjoy playing this game has its a more refined version.

I personally haven't gone out and bought a video game for over a year; however, after seeing the trailer and the Developers talk about this game, I was hooked. The Polish Developers were spot on!
Now.. If you're debating on purchasing this now or waiting... honestly.. it was worth the pre order and purchase in general. The amount of content packed into this game is incredible. I've outlined key pros and cons below.
THE PROS
- Graphics: Great for the console version. Techland really went the whole 9 yards adding detail to the game... on on top of the great mechanics to make the game have a greater sense of realism. If you are a fan of blood and gore... then this game is definitely for you.
- Open World: Do whatever you want: Complete Campaign Missions, Take on Side Missions, Slay Zombies, Explore, Discover Treasures and Secrets, Find Easter Eggs, and so much more.
- Parkour: Run, Jump, Climb, Slide, Swim, Dive... This aspect of the game was very well executed. Use obstacles to your advantage to evade enemies and travel in a thrilling way.
- ZOMBIES: The main point of the game and the Polish Game Developer, Techland, certainly didn't disappoint.
During the Day - Zombies are in their more passive form where you as the player have an advantage; however, you are still very vulnerable. As the game progresses you begin to encounter several stronger zombies during the day to constantly test and challenge your skills at combat, agility, or really... quick thinking.
At Night - This is a whole different ballpark where the roles reverse where you quickly go from being the Predator... to being the Prey. Take Shelter in a Safe House and wait the night out or venture into the Darkness for various bonuses... if you're brave enough. Will you survive..?
- Co-op: As much as many would like to have seen a split screen or offline co-op mode, Techland designed a great online co-op system where you can invite friends to your game or even make it public. Players on the same campaign mission will easily be able to join you and take on the game by your side... that's right - the whole game that you player in single player is what you experience in co-op. Everything remains the same except you have your buddies along for the ride.
Campaign - A well developed back story which can keep you involved, even leaving room to play with your emotions.
THE CONS
- The Beginning: While the beginning of the game is still enjoyable, I personally feel the tutorial and first few hours of game play (as far as the campaign) was a little dragged out. Zombies aren't as scary as one would have expected; HOWEVER, as formerly stated, you do start feeling more suspense and experiencing scares the game progresses.
- Bugs: Like most games upon release, you're bound to discover bugs and glitches. There is one in particular that resets character's items and stats if the gaming console is turned off immediately after sleeping in the game - a word of caution to all players. This will soon be patched if it hasn't been already.
Overall, Dying Light is definitely a great buy to any gamer who enjoys FPS zombie slaying games. Happy Gaming!

This is the type of game you can start playing and next thing you know 4+ hours have passed. The story line is very good graphics are amazing and there is a ton of stuff to do. It is very easy to get lost in side missions which is nice because it gives you a lot of story line other than the main story missions. The weapons are sweet and there are a bunch of different types to choose from and many ways to craft and modify them. The is by far one of the best next gen games out.

The game surrounds itself in a fictional not-so wealthy open world city. The premise is a zombie infection in which you have to parkour all over the place to stay away from the zombies. You are even told to stay on the rooftops and high up places to stay alive. During the day, you are avoiding and dodging regular zombies. At night though....it's another story. Very dangerous zombies that are faster and stronger come out. In both night and day there are big mutant sized zombies that use poles with concrete on the end as weapons...but are slow and dumb.
In closing...the parkour is really well done for how you can basically climb on everything. You'd think with the size of the city and how intricate the parkour is....there would be more bugs....but theres little to none. The story is actually interesting and not an after thought. People can join your game or you can join others for co-op type play. I haven't tried it but I think theres a mod where you can be a zombie while others are survivors.
Oh and also....theres a skill system. So if you like gradually getting more awesome so that things are challenging....you'll like this game.

Dying light starts out intense. You are underpowered and afraid to go out at night and contend with the Hunters. But it here is a risk/reward system in play here. Go out at night and you get rewarded with double xp.
Traversal is what makes the game fun. In the beginning it's like you are supposed to be afraid of the zombies as you and your weapons are weak but traversing the slums is fun.
Eventually you will level up and find powerful weapons which you can modify which will in turn make you feel powerful yet there are still dangers as you could be overwhelmed by swarms of zombies.
The story is interesting, nothing amazing but compared to other games in the genre, this story is interesting. There are still a lot of fetch side quests but traversal and playing with a friend keep the experience fresh.
Great game for lovers of the genre.

This game is better than I expected. The parkour abilities you have sets this game far apart from your normal zombie survivor game. Great for solo and co-op play. There is a ton of side missiosn to keep you occupied if your thinking the game is short it's not and yes you'll love the variety of zombies that come at you :) I also love It uses the abilities the Playstation 4 controller! The controllers LED responds to your in game situation and the speaker on the controller is your characters ear piece.

Dying Light is a great game. Its a video game like all others and its has the same issues that games have. There are glitchy parts, although I've come across them very rarely, and there are aggravating things like jumping over where you were trying to go and falling to your death, that kind of thing. Sometimes its a little difficult to control your character when you're moving fast but that difficulty to be fair is part of the experience, its not supposed to be easy to navigate the city and the zombies, its supposed to be a challenge, you have to move with purpose, it won't do it for you, you have to be accurate both when climbing and also when fighting. Swinging a baseball bat against any zombie will likely not put them down, but maybe if its a head shot, maybe. What I like about it is the fast paced nature of the gameplay and the parcour (sp?) aspect of the character movement. It makes it a lot of fun to run around, similar to Assassin's Creed in that way, your character is very agile, but its in first person view instead of third, making it more stressful since you can't see what's creeping up behind you. There's a lot of scavenging to be done and a lot of buildings and spaces to explore. You can craft items and improve your weapons in a lot of different ways which is cool and its an open world so you can navigate from one place to another however you like. Beware the night, at night is a whole different story. The zombies that come out at night are terrifying and FAST. Prepare to run and for you hear to race right along with you. I enjoy this game.

I've been waiting so long for this game, and it is definitely a good buy. I'd say it is a mix between Mirror's Edge and Dead Island, but a lot more fun than the two. I love that it's an open-world zombie game, and there's plenty of things to do other than the main story missions (side missions, challenges, etc). I have yet to "Be the Zombie" but I have played through the tutorial and it seems really fun as well.
Of course since it is still new, there are some bugs and glitches, but nothing too major that effects the game. The only things that I've came across of were voices would cut off or not match the subtitles, and the beeping notification for the night time wouldn't stop; but that happens very rarely. Also, after I've killed zombies/thugs and left the area and came back, sometimes they would appear standing up for a split second. --- But nothing big that an update can't fix.
Overall, this game has become one of my favorites. There's also cool easter eggs like the Excalibur, Mario, Plants v. Zombies, and Destiny.
This game is a must!

I am currently about 5 hours into this game and having a blast. Enormous amount of content with fun and interesting side quests to keep you engrossed in the world of dying light. Killing zombies are not only intense but super fun in the process. At night when the elite zombies come out make sure you are mentally prepared, because it gets pretty scary.

If you love zombies and parkour, you'll love this. It's like mirror's edge and dead island put together and that is totally a good thing. The combat is fluid and feels meaty when you slash or shoot at enemies. Great open world to explore. Story is cliché but is still very entertaining throughout.

7.5 Great game for melee combat & parkour movement

This game is great at its core, its not without its flaws but it has many great aspects that make it fun. There are really tight controls for movement and running and jumping and climbing. The melee combat is fantastic, although the hit recognition is not the best; it essentially breaks it down to head, chest, arms, and legs. You cannot choose which direction you will swing so you get what they give you. You can upgrade your weapons and imbue them with various awesome upgrades such as fire and electricity. They don't have an upgrade system for your guns though, so no attachments can be added, although you may find one that already has them. The game looks gorgeous and handles well. The story is good, enough to keep you wanting to find out more. Although I have to say, the quests are all run here kill this, turn that switch, run there and do that and then return to me. But if you just enjoy an open world where you can dispose of zombies, level up skills, and explore, then this is definitely a game you should pick up! I'd give it a solid 7.5 rating.

If you are a fan of dead island, you will love this game. New story line, new character. Same awesomeness. Hours of endless fun doing missions, challenges, or just straight up killing zombies. Huge open world map. You can climb just about anything. Playing at night adds an extra difficulty to the game

I waited on this game because I really wasn't a fan of Dead Island for various reasons. I finally saw this game was on sale, so I figured I would give it a shot. I am glad I did!
This game is fantastic. Probably the best zombie game I've ever played. The first person action held up in every way. Running around all parts of the city of Harran using parkour skills felt natural and fun. Using melee weapons to whack or slice up different types of zombies was fun and tense. Speaking of tense, this game had a GREAT atmosphere. Especially in the beginning of the game, I always felt like I had to keep my head down and stay as quiet as possible because I was terrifed of attracting neraby hordes or the more dangerous and faster virals. Exploring the darker areas of the game or braving the nighttime during the game is CRAZY, every little sound makes you question your next step.
I can't recommend this game enough. One of the best of this generation this far.

So I ordered and loved dead island, when it first came out, glitches and all, and all the action that made it classic: smashing and escaping zombies, leveling up weapons and abilities, and exploring open terrain. With Dying Light, all the things I enjoyed about dead lsland and similar titles has been magnified. Huge open world, movements and AI that react to your sound, and many different ways to battle zombies. The danger has been amplified, especially with hordes and the night risk/rewards. I was at first disappointed that this game was scheduled to be released on the ps3 and earlier was not; it was delayed and now only on ps4/xbox one. But I can see whyL the graphics and game play are much smoother and vibrant. When I find safety before nightfall I can see the beauty and fear that comes with the setting sun. Well worth the wait and a purchse.

Great open world zombie game from the makers of dead island plenty of zombies to kill plenty of weapons to create to kill them in creative ways. The parkour element is well done although doesn't really flow smoothly until you level up some and get new abilities to play with. The game does a good job of making you dread night time with the new infected that appear, night becomes a series of intense chases and sneaking along rooftops to avoid them until you reach a safe zone. It would be a 5/5 if it weren't for some slight glitches(I fell through the map and died a few times) and the guns handle poorly. You know what you're getting here tons of zombies plenty of quests and weapons to keep you occupied and drop kicking zombies off rooftops or into spikes never gets old
