I swapped my old hard drive from my laptop and put it in this enclosure so I could put in a ssd into my laptop. Works great as an external hard drive and provides great protection.

It doesn't work on my PC

A coworker gave me a 60 GB laptop hard drive. I bought this enclosure to protect the hard drive. I have XP Pro. I installed the drive into the enclosure & hooked it up. XP told me that the drive wasn't working. I removed the drive from the enclosure & plugged it into a docking station. XP didn't have any problems recognizing it. I took the drive out of the docking station & put it back in the enclosure. Same problem. I put the drive back in each dock of the docking station & XP didn't have any problems recognizing the drive. Needless to say, I'm taking it back to Best Buy & getting my money back.

Great for PC's - pointless for Mac

I have a new MacBook Pro Retina, and am spoiled rotten by the internal SSD drive. I like some of the newer 1 and 2TB bus powered USB 3.0 external drives and the performance on those is pretty good. I wanted an inexpensive way to use some 240GB SSD drives I own for some media work and assumed that when this Dynex product said Mac compatible that I'd be good to go. However, this device is not seen as a USB 3.0 device on a mac, it instead defaults to USB 2.0 speeds. The performance numbers on XBench for my SSD were pretty bad when using this enclosure. So I am returning it. It would have been nice for this caveat to be stated on the packaging.

Did what it said it would do. Set up was easy and case itself looks fairly nice.

After one week of use, I could no longer access the hard drive. The message popped up after a long delay that the drive must be formatted to be used.

Consistently bad Dynex experience. No more

The enclosure / interface will continuously disconnect and reconnect. I attached this directly to my Mac Mini (late 2012) model. Unacceptable. Box claims it's for PCs and Macs with USB 3.0.

    Screw won't come off

I can't get one of the screws off to insert the drive. Plus, this thing is very overpriced. I think you can get other ones for around ten dollars if you go to the right place. When I opened it and saw those screws, I had a feeling this thing was trouble. Trouble indeed.

Avoid if you have a Mac with USB 3.0

WARNING If you have a Mac Book Pro or any Mac with a USB 3.0 interface, DO NOT get this. The best buy site and the info on the box tells you it works with Macs with USB 3.0 support. Upon spending a lot of frustration with this drive constantly power cycling and unmounting, I read the internal documentation and notices it only has USB 2.0 support for Mac OS X. Something surely not mentioned until you buy it, take it home, and read the instructions in the box. I needed this so I could have more space for a media project and now Best Buy is closed. I will surely never trust Dynex products again and I am quite surprised Best Buy would allow a product like this in their stores.

worst enclosure I have ever owned

I had this about 2 weeks before the cable connector on the enclosure itself decided to only work when you wiggled the usb3 connector. I carry around dozens of 2.5 enclosures in my bag and never had a problem and this one just didnt hold its own compared to other enclosures I own, both 2.0 and 3.0. horrible , cheap product

Did not work right out of the box

Bought this to retrieve data from a working hard drive from a laptop with failed video. After installing hard drive and trying to access data, the hard drive keeps spinning down and then back up. It will not stay up long enough to access any data. Tried another known good hard drive as a test and it did exactly the same thing. Going to return this immediately.
