Positive feedback also mentions its compact size and generally good performance. However, some users reported occasional jamming issues and concerns about the noise level. A few also noted instances of the shredder overheating.

Does the job!

I needed a shredder because I had to reprint my state tax return and I ended up with 40 pages that had my SSN on each and I didn't want to rip them up manually. I've had good luck with Dynex products, so I picked this one up.
Shreds paper fine, I only do 3-4 sheets at a time and it doesn't jam. I have not used it for credit cards but some of the other reviews seem to indicate it has trouble with them.
Overall a nice shredder, good price, I have no complaints!

Great Shredder for Price

Despite the negative reviews, I bought this shredder for personal office use. I am an author and own another business, so shredding is a necessary practice.
This shredder is fantastic. Words of advice: do not stick in 5 sheets of paper at a time; the shredder gets overheated and has a safety on the motor that will shut it off for 5-15 minutes causing it to appear broken/dead. Don't be impatient: this is a machine and no one likes paper shoved down their throats constantly. It DOES shred credit cards: stick ONE credit card in and then stick a sheet of paper in so the machine doesn't clog. Finally, don't stick in folded pieces of paper, this creates jamming and overheating. It shreds everything into confetti including small business cards and odd-shaped paper products. No cardboard shredding.
Cleaning the machine is easy. Make sure to unplug the shredder so fingers don't become victims. If paper gets trapped near the sensor, the machine won't work.
In one night I shredded over 5,000 pieces of paper along with several membership cards. This machine is simplistic and works great!

This is a fantastic bargain as well as an excellent shredder/chopper. I've put a handful of papers in and it eats em up without a problem - even if I don't insert squarely. The bin underneath the shredder holds a plastic liner with the shredder top. My girlfriend uses the confetti that it makes for crafting. This is a perfect shredder for a home and perhaps a small business, but if you have a lot of daily shredding, I would recommend something that handles more sheets at a time and a bigger bin. Other than the lip that covers the entrance (keeps kids fingers out) being in the way when inserting paper, this shredder is a great deal.

A great help for a small business

Prior to this dirt-cheap little machine I owned a couple of the higher end appliances for destroying sensitive paperwork. I cut my fingers on one of them and completely locked up - beyond repair - a second one. Since there's only so much a small business can afford, I started looking on the lower end. Cheap though this little critter is, it does what it says on the paper. Even though I learned not to put more than three pages down the chute, it does work with five and it does take creditcards. Sublime value for the money.

This shredder is used for small business and personal home office. It does the job. There is a thermal switch that will shut the unit down during heavy use, but as soon as it cools down, it will turn on again. For the price, it is a great unit. Shreds credit cards as well as paper.

I usually have to get a new shredder about every 2-3 years. This one seems to meet up to the task. Since I burn them up so frequently I only buy the cheap ones; that are cross cut, that is.

If you just need something to shred a few files from time to time, it works just fine. It doesn't take much to overload the shredding mechanism, but as long as you know the limitations, it is perfectly adequate

Great Small Shredder

I just needed a simple shredder for now. It works great. The cross shred is more secure be even more beneficial it makes for more room in the waste basket since there are smaller pieces of paper. I prefer a micro-shred for the same purpose but it's mostly because I'm lazy and don't want to empty the basket a bunch. Overall though, this is probably the best shredder for the price. Best Buy just released their 10 page shredder and I'm interested to see how that one does but you definitely won't be disappointed with this unless you are using it for shredding 30-40 pages at a time, multiple times a day. I only shred basic documents 5-10 pages daily if even that.

I love the cross cut feature and being able to shred plastic cards. I recommend going easy and just feed small amounts at a time. The affordability of this shredder makes up for any bogging down that may occur.

This is great for shredding 1-2 sheets at a time. It's solid in construction and reliable for light usage only, which is what I bought it for.
It sounds like it's working really hard at 3 sheets at time. I doubt I'd be able to shred staples, credit cards, or 5 sheets at a time, without shortening it's life or breaking it altogether. Get another shredder if you need it for heavy use.

Best criss-cross shredder for the price

I asked the Best Buy associate for the cheapest shredder they had, and he gave me this. I do not regret it for a moment. It does the job of criss-cross shredding very well and I couldn't imagine what's so much greater about the more expensive ones. I definitely recommend everyone have a shredder, especially a criss-cross shredder like this. This product is highly recommended.

For a brief 5 minutes this guy was a shredding monster. He took credit cards like a boss, and handled the advertised 5 sheets without any problems. Then, after a glorious 5 minutes of working properly, he died. The air smelled slightly of smoke.

Purchased this and used it for about 8 months. It works fine for light shredding, although the waste basket is on the smaller size, so if you shred a considerable amount, be prepared to empty that thing frequently.
It will jam if you try to shred standard size credit cards. And even thick mailing flyers or poster cards. Sometimes it slows down to a crawl and stops forcing me to play the "reverse/off" toggle game.
After about 8 months it all of the sudden does NOTHING when I put in a piece of paper. Then, about 20 seconds later it starts shredding. It was the weirdest thing! Now, it has totally shut down and doesn't work. Seems like the 1 year warranty is timed perfectly for its life expectancy.

LOVE it. I bought one at Target for the same price as this Dynex a few months back and it was horrible. Easy feed, fairly quiet with a large basket for collecting the shreds.

Jammed up with first credit card

Despite the claims and the specific credit card slot, this shredder jammed up the first time I tried to shred a credit card. It was so stuck that I could not unjam it and had to return it. But because on sale it was by far the cheapest cross-cut shredder I could find, I bought another one and will only use it for paper, and not more than a few sheets at a time. So far, so good. Also beware of the sharp blades on the bottom, much sharper and more protruding than my last strip-cut shredder. Always unplug this thing before trying to clean it out!

For the price, it's not worth it - i had a pile documents to shred and it took me 20 minutes to finish a pile of about 100 pages. It shut off 2 times because it was overheating and it jammed 2 times during the process.
