The ball future takes great strength turn. We often just yank it off the floor to get it to go in the direction we want. My wife cannot use due to the effort to push and pull around the house and that is with the brushes moving. Without the brushes moving it just sucks the floor so hard you can't move it at all. Worst purchase we have in a long time. Don't buy unless your husband does the vacuuming. I'm sweating my butt off as I type. What a workout!

I can confirm, Dyson ball upright vacuums - including the Ball Animal, have an active base plate which self-adjusts to create optimal contact with every floor type. This reduces air leaks and retains more suction power at the cleaner head. If only the cord were retractable...

Use on hard wood floors was always iffy and using the hand held attachments ackward. By October 20 this vacuum had failed to clean the rugs and we went back to our old vacuum.
