Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.My not so little family of 5 children, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and country living including chickens is hard on vacuums. We kill about one a year honestly and it is just something we have come to expect. We have long heard amazing things about Dyson but worried it would just be another vacuum for us to kill. I am now convinced though all the love people talk about for these machines is merited because having this one just a few weeks has been amazing. It is so strong and so easy to clean. Unlike other machines hair isn't able to stop a belt and burn out a motor. I don't even need a screw driver to fully clean this machine like I have others. I am very impressed. Even on very old rugs it does a great job and makes them look good, and goodness the things it pulls up. I love that it doesn't kick mold and pollen into the air when cleaning, I know inside air pollution is a bigger issue than most people know and this machine clearly understands that. We have rugs in the house that are very old and short and some that are longer than normal, it does great on them all. The turning because of the ball is impressive. Over all I swear this cleans faster. I highly recommend this machine to anyone with children and pets, really anyone that wants to clean better and more quickly. It is just so easy to use and the red parts make it so easy to understand how to use it. *I was given this product to review in order to share my honest opinion.

The suction on carpets was so strong we couldn’t move the vacuum. My husband tried several different things to make it usable. Nothing worked. We ended up putting it in our storage building and will never use it. It was a very costly mistake

I can confirm, Dyson ball upright vacuums - including the Ball Animal, have an active base plate which self-adjusts to create optimal contact with every floor type. This reduces air leaks and retains more suction power at the cleaner head. Dyson cleaner heads have been designed to maintain optimal contact with flooring to help ensure the best performance across both hard floors and carpet. As a result, while we don't expect problems to occur and experiences can vary from home to home, some high pile carpets may fill in the cleaner head resulting in an airtight seal. It has the most important accessories for stairs, curtains and narrow angles reach. The only concern is that its weight, it is heavy to carry it upstairs to vacuum the second floor. But it does the job perfectly. Highly recommend.

They have made a change to the way that the handle releases on this model and it is not as user friendly. Still prefer it over my Shark.

Dyson Ball vacuum cleaners operate with a quick recline feature. This will avoid the need for pedals or stepping on the front of the machine as with our non-ball models. Rolling the unit around from room to room is recommended to be done with the ball instead of the stabilizer wheels on the back of the ball. You can then put the unit upright once you are done with cleaning and for storage. However, if you are having trouble locking the machine upright after cleaning, your machine would not be performing as designed.

Cheap cheap quality

And the way it drops into floor cleaning mode is just awful. I mean I don't have anything that really made it stand out from a cheaper vacuum.

I tried all the things that Dyson asked me to do but it didn't change anything. That was not what I expected for a pricey vacuum. Sadly, I had to return it.

Our Animal models have been designed for homes with pets in mind, with features that help dig out dirt and efficiently pick up pet hair. We're sorry that you've had issues with the power button, hose and the machine standing upright.
There will generally be two clicks that you should get when putting the vacuum into the upright position. These clicks are not always noticeable unless put into the upright position at a slower speed. I would recommend putting the unit into the upright position at a slower pace in order to listen to the clicks that occur in order to troubleshoot the problem. One click will be the wheels of the vacuum going into place. The second click will be the wheels locking into place. It is important to ensure the second click occurs as without the second click, stabilizer wheels are not able to lock securely into place.
With regard to the hose, I can confirm that we would essentially expect the hose to become more flexible with time and use. A few tips we can provide would be attaching your accessories directly to your hose, as this will also help expedite stretching the elasticity of the hose. Dyson vacuums are engineered with versatility in mind and attachments may be used on either the wand or directly on the machine itself for added convenience. Also, when stretching the hose out we would recommend starting by stretching the part of the hose that is nearest to the vacuum first when extending this part to clean your home. We would actually recommend checking to ensure the wand is not obstructed and that the hose is not sucking into itself as the hose is not something we would expect to be an issue during use.

Posted .Hi there, this is Kelly with Dyson. We're so disappointed to hear that after just one day, your brush bar has stopped working on your Ball Animal upright. The cleaner head on this vacuum is self-adjusting, so it will automatically raise and lower to seal in suction across all floors. Sometimes issues can arise, where the brush bar will stop spinning, if the brush bar senses your carpeting fibers as an obstruction. This shuts off the brush bar motor, to prevent the motor from overheating. Another issue that can arise, is that the machine will feel hard to push. This is due to the machine's suction forming an airtight seal between the cleaner head and the floor. It's usually more common on thicker, more plush carpeting, carpets with thicker padding underneath or even area rugs. You are better off with any $100 vacuum out there. Really regret this purchase. Thought i was buying a good vacuum at a great sale price but really i was buying a piece of crap that is very overpriced. Will never make a Dyson purchase again... Go with a Shark!

Not good for thick carpet/padding

The unit worked well for a few months. Then we had to cut the unit on and off in order for it to pick up. The family gave up trying to use it. COVIC prevented us from returning it to the store last year. Forgot about it until now. been using old unit.
