My parents wanted another Dyson because this brand will last for several years with proper care. They were willing to spend the money on a great quality vacuum cleaner. It was on sale during black friday, which is why they bought it.

This vacuum is the best. It was gifted to me back in 2010/2011 and I had been using it for ten years putting it through hell and back again. Probably sucking up debri that the labels warn you not to do. I have two indoor/outdoor dogs, live on a farm, wood stove creating tons of daily dust, and kids….put this together for ten years. We knocked down walls remodeling and I straight up suctioned the dry wall piles I didn’t want to pick up by hand. Within the last year it has started to not turn as good (definitely rammed it against furniture/walls during those quick cleaning sessions), and the power of suction has decreased through all the crap I put it through. So I gifted myself the same model for this Christmas. I forgot how good it used to turn and vacuum. I am so so so happy and it glides across my floor. It’s almost as good as getting a new puppy before you regret the puppy stage kind of thing….except you stay happy. I decided not to get the Dyson animal 2 and stick with the original because I was so happy with the first. Definitely would recommend this over any other vacuum.

Don't waste your money on the Dyson Animal. The connections are cheaply made it's ridiculous. Yes, it has no loss of suction, but there is no adjustability of suction power either, so try to vacuum a throw rug...forget it. The hose and attachments are useless since the suction prevents you from extending the hose to anywhere, then pulls the machine over cutting the suction. Attempting to vacuum curtains, the upright was sucked over knocking items from my end table. It has terrific suction, but only if you have low pile carpets, it cannot clean far under things because it's too bulky and heavy. The brush will clog with hair and fur....and not easily cleaned up. I would definitely learn from my experience, and stay away from anything Dyson. One of the only features worthwhile was the cleanable HEPA filter.

Bought this a few years ago to replace an old (30 years) Electrolux canister style that we had, and that worked very well. This seemed to be a great package, and indeed it sucks hard(!) and maneuvers well and in tight spots. The many downsides are the weight, the high pitched whine/scream that is very loud, the extremely poor cable management, (if you can call it that), and the wand function that requires several steps to use and fights you all the time with the stretchy hose, which is easy to pinch also. It is also not easy to clean the dirt container as the pet hair gets caught up high on the inside and you have to pull it all apart. There is also a "sock" type of inner filter that is impossible to clean out properly. So, all in all, the Dyson clan have not engineered this very well. If you don't mind all these negative aspects then by all means buy one. Buyer beware.

Great suction but hate the hose. When using the hose the sweeper falls over. The sweeper also won’t go on my carpet without really pushing on it. When I try to put it away it doesn’t roll - the front keels falling down as to sweep.

Feels very cheap,does not lock upright in place very easily.Wand is a pain to put back and doesn’t stretch easily and you have to carry attachments with you.Only good thing about new version is the suction.

When I tell you this vacuum makes my carpets clean as hell. I would never see lines in my carpets and now I see my carpet sticking up. 

LOVE this new vacuum, with a very powerful suction!

The cost is a bit off putting but it has great performance. The only only draw back is remembering to clean both filters. If you forget and they get dirty the power of the vacuum takes a hit.
