The Cinetic Big Ball Animal+Allergy features an automatic adjusting cleanerhead. The machine can work on most flooring types, but we're unable to test the machine on every permutation out there. Because of this, we always recommend consulting with your carpet maker to find out what machines would work best with their flooring. Most carpet makers will have advice on what machines are most compatible with your flooring. The brushbar can be turned off manually as needed.

The Dyson Cinetic is a heavier machine; one thing that you may notice, however, is the brush bar of your machine may help to move the machine along the carpet due to the natural rotation of the brush bar. Having said that, we're glad to hear that you were able to return this machine, and exchange it for another Dyson. the V11 Animal is a wonderful model, with three modes of suction power, and a high torque cleaner head, sufficient to pick up any mess on any floor.

The Animal series is great for pet hair as it includes a tool that is great for picking up pet hair off furniture. As for the debris within the cyclone, we do recommend as part of the regular maintenance, to remove the canister from the cyclone and blow out the cyclone with a can of compressed air or use a bristle brush to brush away any debris that may build up. Thank you for taking the time to provide this review. You are absolutely right to note that one of the biggest benefits of Cinetic™ technology is the fact that there is no filter washing required. It has 54 of our new Dyson Cinetic™ cyclones packed tightly into the cyclone pack.
Smaller cyclones are more efficient, however there is risk that when you make cyclones smaller, you increase the chance of them blocking. Dyson engineers have engineered every one of the 54 cyclones with an oscillating tip to combat this risk. As a result, the cyclones are always moving, ensuring the dust is moved through the cyclone and into the bin. They are so efficient that there is no need for a pre-motor filter to protect the motor. So there isn’t one.
In addition to this, the Animal + Allergy also comes out of the box with a wealth of tools that are valued at over $250. Among these is our popular Tangle Free Turbine Tool, the only turbine tool that doesn’t tangle.

Thanks for your review. Sorry to hear the brushbar has stopped spinning on your Cinetic Big Ball. Dyson machines feature a removable brushbar to allow easy cleaning of this area. Ensuring the brush is free of obstruction falls under the standard maintenance of the machine. If the brushbar is not spinning properly on carpet, it will not have the ability to agitate the carpet for optimal pickup. As this machine doesn't require any filter washing, the maintenance is quite minimal overall.

Not worth the money

The main handle / wand is so cheaply made it hardly ever goes back in on the first try. The canister is so small, and again, cheaply made that it is a pain to empty, especially because it is so small. Simply not Dyson quality.

The vacuum does not get as deep into the carpet as I would like but it does clean at an efficient level. Dyson advertises how the vacuum will not lose suction but this is not true. Dyson vacuums will stop cleaning once the filter screen, etc. is causing less suction, making the user clean before further use. This is not as advertised but it seems to be a step in the right direction. Overall, a good vacuum but not the price whatsoever!

Until now. We decided to get the new model version of our old. While I love Dyson, and wont ever go to another brand, this one came broken out of the package. I had to order new parts for it, with no qualms from Dysons end, but still, its been 2 weeks and I still don't have the extension arm we need to use it. So, a bit of a frustration, and overall this is why it gets 2 stars.

Eventhing you vacuum up is leaking out all over the floor. The hose when you put it back in don’t go in correctly. So you have to work very hard to have slide all the way down inside and if you were to leave it the handle falls off. Dyson should work better than that.... I have the older model

We can send it in to Dyson and get it fixed or replaced, but what a pain to box it up ship it off and then wait for a replacement. High hopes. spent the cash but ended up with a lemon.

Shockingly Bad

I just got new carpet in June. This vacuum was not made to clean carpet. I almost put myself in the hospital trying to push it. The worst part is, there is no 'fix' to make it roll better. This is Dan with Dyson. Sorry to hear you have returned your Dyson Cinetic Big Ball due to performance on your new carpet. All of our upright machines are designed with carpeting and hard floors in mind. The experience you were having is common to any machine with powerful suction on new carpeting.
The greater the weight and suction power the more the soleplate edges will sink in and the higher the push force. However, the brush bar helps to reduce the push force as the rotation and penetration of the bristles creates an opposing up-force reducing the amount the edges are able to sink in.
Carpet age affects it in a similar way so older carpet tends to be less dense and more compressed and this reduces the amount the edges of the soleplate can sink in and reduces the carpet piles resistance. New carpet is the opposite however.
The active base plate is designed to help combat this. The vertical articulation allows the soleplate to sit on the surface and the edges not to sink in. Creating a seal but not increasing the push force. This then leaves the brush bar free to set its own penetration into the carpet pile.
Although this experience may have been unpleasant, it gets better over time as you vacuum and your carpet fibres spread and allow more airflow to the cleanerhead.

Posted .Hello there, this is Kelly with Dyson. If a smell is occurring within the machine, it's typically from a build up of dirt, dust or debris within the cyclone. This can be fairly common in our Animal model machines, where you're vacuuming up pet hair and/or dander. What you can do is empty the clear bin and place a dryer sheet inside of the bin, close the lid, and run the machine for a minute or so. You can also use a can of compressed air aimed at the cyclone to remove excess dirt/debris built up within the mesh.
