Customers are saying

Customers have good things to say about the Cyclone V10 Animal's powerful suction, ease of use, lightweight design, and long battery life. Many appreciate its cordless convenience and strong performance, particularly on carpets. However, some customers point out that the price is high and the dustbin could be larger. A few also mention challenges with filter maintenance and the trigger mechanism.

Performs like a $200 machine. WAY overpriced

Got this vacuum on sale when it was marked down from its original price of $630. I paid a little over $560 for the unit. For its price, i noted a lot of things i liked about the machine, and quite a few areas that would HAVE to be fixed to justify the ridiculously high price your paying for this unit. I was particularly critical in my initial judgments just based off of the price alone. For $600 i would expect this vacuum to perform with all the bells and whistles of a powerful all-in one, which it sadly does not. While it does do the job in most cases around my home, i am simply not convinced that Dyson put $600 worth of craftsmanship and innovation into this vacuum, and although it comes with several attachments and cleaner heads, I am still not okay with the idea of paying anything higher than $200 for this machine. Heres some of the pain points that particularly hurt the most when looking back at all the money i spent: 1: The battery. This speaks to most “wirelessly powered” vacuums on the market today, in that for some god awful reason designers figured it’d be more convenient and less of a hassle to make every vacuum battery operated these days. There are so many reason why I HATE this design, and is the main reason why ill be switching back to an old fashioned wired vacuum as soon as this one fails me. The first frame of logic is capacity and power. Vacuums use a lot of power. It takes a lot of energy to pull as much air as is needed to create and maintain or hold a consistent and steady suction against your carpet or flooring. And keep in mind this suction has to be strong enough to essentially pull the vacuum head towards the ground where it picks up the dirt, and it has to maintain this level of suction and power for the duration of your cleaning session. This means by the time you’ve thoroughly cleaned one medium sized room on standard carpet, you’re either 50% drained of battery or even more. That doesn’t sound so bad, but if you consider cleaning multiple rooms across several hallways/living rooms/bedding/furniture/hard surfaces, What’s the point of having a cordless machine if the battery can’t even handle the energy output it requires to power it? And it makes it even more sour considering this machine markets itself as a multi surface cleaner, so not only does it need to perform on your carpeted surfaces like rooms and hallways, this machine is expected to also clean your hardwood floors, tile, etc. All in one go? Nice try. And Dyson likes to gaslight its customers by preaching the fact that this machine has 3 power modes, and that it is somehow our problem if we use too much power than what this machine can handle. Sounds to me like Dyson either over engineered their machine to the point that not even their own battery can handle the output this thing requires, or Dyson equipped these vacuums with a cheaper less expensive battery than what we have paid $600 for. Either way, its a huge beauty mark on the face of a “Luxury” priced item that reinforces my buyers remorse in purchasing such an expensive toy. 2: capacity and handling: The bin on the dyson v10 is large and easy to clean given you first remove all the attachments and are near a trash can. With that said, the main vacuum head for the Dyson is way too small and the tube too narrow to pick up anything over the size of a cheerio. And god forbid you try to pick up a small leafe or candy wrapper, as anything flat and thin resembling paper is bound to plug up the tiny suction holes in the tube and or filter. You can see these items swirl around in the vacuum head and it still stays there after you pull back the vacuum to reveal everything you just tried to suck up regurgitated. This in conjunction with my next pain point is what makes me certain that $600 is too much for this unit. 3: Capability: There are only 2 bristles lined along the spin part of the main vacuum attachment: 1 firmer short brittle and a longer soft brittle arranged in a spiral around the brittle tube. Not only does this make reaching through deep carpet almost nonexistent, but it doesn’t pick up anything more than the weight of a dime, and most of the times it can’t even pick that up. I cringe anytime I roll over a penny or a soda can tab, as the bristles rattle the hell out of the garbage against the floor and sounds like its doing damage to my flooring the machine or both. And it won’t pick it up.

Has good suction, but will never buy another one. It’s only good for vacuuming up hair and dust. Everything else it just pushes around. The battery crapped out only just having it for 2 years! They are expensive to replace too.

I have owned just about every model Dyson Stick Vac since they came out and I have to say, they upped their game with this model. This model not only has the sucking power blowing away all others stick vacs, it blows away all other Dyson stick vacs as well. The sheer beauty of this model makes it the best they have invented yet and there is a reason Dyson costs more, they have a 2 year no questions asked warranty and they are the best when it comes to vacuum cleaners. Plus the way they are built is Apple product like and you will not be sorry spending the extra dough!

I bought the v10 animal and was impressed, as it picked up a lot of hair and dirt (multi-dog household). However, dust got sucked into the filter so quickly that it needed to be changed every 2 to 5 minutes or so. Not sure if the vacuum was faulty or if the v10 just wasn’t strong enough for our home. Upgraded to the v15 detect after a few weeks of being annoyed by the v10 and WOAH! What a difference. If you can afford the extra money, I recommend just going for the v15.

Hello Cassandra, this is Kelly with Dyson. I can confirm that both suction and run time will be greater with our V15 Detect models. With the V10 you'll have three suction options, and run times that vary from 5-60 minutes, depending on the floor type you are cleaning, power level, dust level in your home, and the attachment or tool being used. We're glad that you were able to upgrade to the V15 and are finding that it suits your home so well. If we can help with any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to get in touch with us at askdysonUS@dyson.com.

The vacuum is very powerful for only the first few times out of the box. I purchased my V10 a few years ago but during that span I've had to return the original because the motorhead (carpet attachments) wouldn't spin, the battery wouldn't charge after a month (new battery), and I've also had 3 new motors (main assembly) sent to me because the vacuum could only work on medium and low power regardless of the amount of cleaning I did to the system. I had several filters and religiously cleaned the system but the system kept failing to operate even after a deep cleaning of 2.5 hours. In summary I had the system capable of max power cleaning for less than a year total out of the roughly 5 years I had the system. Customer service seemed willing to help fix the issue by sending new equipment, but if the new equipment has the same longevity and capabilities then the issue isn't resolved as you're left without a functional vacuum. If you're looking for a full time vacuum that can get the job done without needing a separate powerful vacuum to actually clean, this isn't the answer for you!

    The Price Makes this Average

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The Good: 1) The suction is on average with another (Black and Decker) stick-hybrid vac that I bought for $40. 2) For the most part it gets up most of the dust and mess from my floors. 3) I got the animal version because I have a small dog that sheds a lot, and needed the smaller motorized head to help collect animal fur. Cons: 1) With the "Point and shoot" approach to empty the collection bin, there are still a lot of dirt and hair trapped inside of the collection bin. 2) I have a small house (around 1,100 sq ft) and by the time I finish vacuuming just the floors, I barely have enough time to vacuum much else. 3) On the "Max" mode, you can only vacuum for five minutes before the battery is completely drained. This is unfortunate because max mode is where this stick vac is comparable to traditional up-right models. So you only have 5 minutes of true vacuum power. The Ugly: With no interchangeable battery, I find myself rushing to clean. I also find myself vacuuming floors, waiting for hours, and then vacuuming furniture. Bottom Line: If you have a small home, like to clean multiple items (floors, ceilings, cars, etc.), and don't mind waiting then this is an average vacuum. However, if your house is mostly carpet and or much larger than the average home, I would urge you to get an up-right. For the most part, if this vacuum was say around $250 price range, it would be a great vacuum, but with these limitations and pricing, this average is at or below average.

Hi there, this is Krystal with Dyson. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I am pleased to hear you are satisfied with the suction.

The new Cyclone V10 is our longest running and most powerful cord-free to date. It has three different modes that provide different levels of suction and run time. The lowest mode, which runs for up to 60 minutes, is recommended for hard floors. The mid-mode is great for cleaning carpets and will give you about 20 minutes of run time with a motorized floor tool. The max mode has the lowest run time and should only be used for heavy duty jobs and removing dirt hidden deep in the carpet.

We know that suction is one of the most important aspects of performance for our owners. Extensive battery testing has shown us that batteries locked into the machine provide a more reliable electrical connection and provide stronger, more consistent power over time.

We would value the opportunity to learn more about your experience and address any questions or concerns you may have. Feel free to contact us at [email protected] and we will be happy to help.

    Not Husky Approved

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have two Siberian Huskies who blow their coats twice a year for 6 months each time. Fur is an actual condiment in this house. These dogs spawn little fur wolves everywhere and the cats live in mortal terror of being eaten by said spawn. For 6 years, I have been on an epic hunt for a vacuum that does not have a stroke when it sees husky fur. This was my first foray into the land of Dysons and I am sorry to report this vacuum didn’t last five minutes before giving up the fight, clogging up in multiple areas, and emitting high pitched screams of apparent agony. I gave it a few more tries over a week or so, but the end result is epic failure. If you have a normal dog, this vacuum might do. If you have huskies, just move along and keep searching, my brothers and sisters in Fur Hell.

    Dog hair vacuum cleaner

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Overall it works well for vacuuming dog hair on hardwood floors. Doesn’t scratch floors like other models. Top suction power only lasts about 15 minutes which is annoying. Not that easy to disconnect parts and it would be nice it there was a light to see under furniture and having to hold the power switch on is tiring. Doesn’t work very well on Persian area rug. Works well on the dog bed.
