I recommend getting the animal for the extra attachments because they can be sold out when you want to purchase on the Dyson website and you get more for your money with this. The suction power is comparable to many cord vacuums even though the battery life can be on the low end of you run it on high constantly.

Good design but reliability issues

Like other reviewers have mentioned, the bin can get clumps of pet hair and you have to manually remove with your fingers that doesn't empty out when the bin is emptied. Dyson does provide good troubleshooting videos but waiting now on an email reply from the company. At this point, I'm not sure about the quality or reliability of the product.

The spinning roller doesn’t get a lot of hair wrapped around it but it does a little. To keep the vacuum working at its best check the filter at the top periodically. Also at each end of the roller, clean the dust and debris that collect there. Do not keep the vacuum and charger in the garage. If the battery gets too cold it will shut down and will shut the vacuum down till it’s warmed back up.

I think it picked up dust from the apartment below mine. It is the best vacuum I have ever had (and I am 63). It is just outright a great vacuum and I am both impressed with it and really glad I purchased it!!! I cannot say enough good about it. I WOULD recommend purchasing the flexible hose to go with it (ca. $10-$20) and it is really helpful.
