Customers are saying
Customers find value in the powerful suction and effective carpet cleaning capabilities of this vacuum. Many appreciate its ease of use and the long cord, along with the useful attachments. However, some customers note that the vacuum is heavy and that the price point may be a concern for some buyers. The small dust canister also requires more frequent emptying.

Works Well But Lord Help You If...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The unit works well but if the belt goes out you better be prepared for open heart surgery. Freaking nuts what you have to do just to get to where you can see the belt much less change it. Will give me great pause to every purchase one of these products again.

This thing is an Animal
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First of all, this vacuum is big and heavy so if you're looking for a lightweight vac that you can easily carry around than it's not for you. If you are looking for a vac that will clean like no other than this is for you. I have always used Bissel or other brand vacs that cost $60-$100 and I always ended up disappointed with them. I always wanted a Dyson but could never afford one. Saw this price and knew I had to get it. It was a breeze to put together, just snap 2 pieces into place and you're done. It is a bit heavy and bulky but it is very well made and looks cool. Well, I vacuumed what I thought were clean carpets and couldn't believe the ammount of dirt, dust, hair that was picked up. I have a 4 year old and a puppy so I vacuum alot. When you are running it across your floor, you can feel the deep suction. It is very easy to empty, pull the cannister out, hold it over a trash bin and hit a button and the latch drops open and it all falls out. It comes with a lot of extra tools. Went along all the edges of my walls and the suction is great. It is easy to use, cleans great, looks great. It also comes with a 5 year warrenty which is awesome. You really can't go wrong. I love it.

The Great DC28
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great product, easy to use, light weight, great for all floors and stairs. After using this product twice I noticed it removes minor stains from water/snow kids drag in. First time I used in in my home I had to empty the container three times, this is of course after I had used my older Kenmore the same day. Its amazing how well and how much dirt this vacuum picks up. I used this on my stairs and it did a great job, the accessories is the reason I purchased this gem, due to my bad back, I'm 5.10 and I no longer have to bend over to use the hand attachments in the corners or baseboard. I did lots of research and I tried a number of other vacuums, the price is what really made this purchase difficult. It really is not that bad considering no up-charge for the warranty. I picked mine up for $429.00 when it was on sale and used $50.00 reward bucks. I'm extremely happy with this purchase, my girl friend has borrowed it and she also loved it.

Totally worth the $$$
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Okay I went in to the store to try the DC25 Animal out, and came out with this. If you try them in person you will know why. The DC25 has a much shorter cord (by 10 feet), a smaller canister, and the front doesn't feel very sturdy/feels cheap. The ball really doesn't make a significant difference, in my opinion, and my wife agreed. This is so easy to move don't focus on the fact that it doesn't have a ball, in my opinion in makes it feel like it will last longer. It also still feels easier to move than a standard vacuum, and it isn't super heavy. I just bought a remodeled house with brand new carpet a week ago and I bought this the same day, and it sucked up a quarter canister full of carpet fibers, along with some cat fuzz already (have two cats). Ran it again last night and its mostly cat fuzz now, still about a quarter canister full (which is impressive considering since we bought our house we've been gone all but to sleep). What'simportant to me also is how it lifts your carpet up like a good vacuum should...cheapy vacuums hardly have enough suction to tell it was there. The fingertip controls are very nice...and the super long cable is convenient. I haven't used any of the accessories yet except for the wand, but it works well. I know what everyone reading this review is thinking because I went through the same thought process: that it is a lot of money for a vacuum. I justified it by saying that the amount I would spend on Hoovers over the next 5 years is equal to if not greater than the cost of the top of the line Dyson, but even if this thing died the day after the warranty expired, at least my carpet ought to be many times cleaner. Not to mention that I shouldn't have to get my carpet shampooed as frequently with this quality of vacuum. A really cool feature is that the entire canister is removable, and then you press a button to open the bottom up where it neatly empties itself...very convenient. I don't agree with anyone saying that the canister is small...I think they just have dirty carpet :-) And its certainly no smaller than any other brand's, if anything its larger than the other Dysons that I saw. Or I am just lucky that my carpet has only seen this vacuum. I did give this a 4 for quality, because the completely plastic construction feels slightly cheap even on this model (not as bad as on the DC25 though), and I have a hard time feeling sure of just how good of shape it will be in 5 years from now. The best way to buy this is wait for it to go on sale (last week it was 15% off), then use a 10% off coupon. That's what I did...made the cost SLIGHTLY easier to swallow...yeah I would have rather bought an LCD TV for this price but this is a much better investment. I imagine it will easily pay for itself over the life of it.

An excellent product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned several Dyson vacuums including an older animal, a ball, and a hand-held. This new animal is a typical Dyson vacuum - unmatched suction and ease of use. I really like some of the improvements Dyson has made from older versions. The cord is longer, the hose is longer, the switches are easier to reach, and the attachments are better. The only complaint I have is that the suction is so great that it makes it difficult to vacuum floor rugs since the vacuum tends to suck the rug up and pull it along (hence 4 starts for performance). It is quite expensive, but it's a much better value than most other vacuums (hence 4 starts for Value for Price).

Good, Bad & the Ugly
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Waited years to buy a Dyson so when the time came, my wife and I ran down to BB (after spending countless hours researching which model to buy) and selected the DC28 with its upgraded motor and Hepa filter. Here's the Good, Bad & the Ugly on it: THE GOOD: The suction is incredible! We had just vacuumed our living room carpet minutes before using the Dyson, and wow!! We could not believe just how much dirt and animal hair and dander it picked up. Apparently our other vacuum was just collecting the surface dirt and hair. The longer cord is also great. We no longer have to vacuum one side of the room, unplug and find another outlet for the other side of the room. The DC28's cord is long enough for almost any sized room/floor in most homes (unless you have a BIll Gate's style mansion!). The attachments are great and are so much easier to utilize than previous vacuums we've owned. THE BAD: No too much here. A light on the front would be nice but not really necessary unless you have poor lighting in your home. After years of having lights on vacuums, it was a bit surprising not to have one of such an expensive vacuum. THE UGLY: After two weeks of owning the vacuum, it would no longer switch brush modes (switch from medium carpets to bare floors, etc.). We called Dyson support and they walked us threw multiple ways to fix it to no avail. However, Dyson does have a 5 year warranty and covered it. Plus it was still under BB's return policy so we just exchanged it for a new one. Overall, very happy with it's abilities as it outperform any other vacumm we've ever owned. The price is awfully high but our floors have never looked so good. A little disappointed with how quickly something went wrong with it, but sometimes a defective one gets stuck in the batch.

Well worth the money!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have 2 dogs that are inside the house all of the time, so it is impossible to not have pet hair as well. We noticed that there seemed to be a lot of hair everywhere and after installing new carpet, we decided to start looking for new vacuum. I read the reviews and this model of Dyson was consistently rating high, so I took a chance. The cost was a little steep, but that was a distant memory once I used the vacuum for the first time. We had been using a Bisell Pet Hair vacuum and had just used it earlier that day, so I was shocked when I filled up the canister 3 times with the Dyson. I expected it to pull up dog hair, but was pleasantly surprised to see all of the dirt and sand it picked up as well. We have even started using it to clean our ceramic tile and have noticed that it picks up dirt that our broom would pass over. The main negatives that I read in the reviews were that the cord was too short and that the canister was too small: however I find the cord to be a little longer then average, while the canister actually is a little smaller then normal. With that being said, the canister is very simple to empty, with just the push of a button, it comes off of the vacuum and another push allows a door on the bottom of the canister to open up and empty out into the trash can. I think that the canister seems smaller because this vacuum actually works better then most, and fills up right away. The vacuum comes with some really useful attachments that actually work, so we use them. Every time that I use this vacuum, I am surprised and pleased at how much dirt it picks up. Even though it is an expensive investment, I feel that it is worth every penny.

So worth the money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had my Dyson Animal for a little under a year and I still LOVE it. I was hesitant to buy something so expensive, but after burning through some of the "cheaper" vacuums ($100 range) we decided it would be best to just bite the bullet and buy a Dyson. We haven't regretted it one bit. We have a long haired cat & golden retriever & watch my parents golden when they're out of town, so we have some serious shedders. My last vacuum actually started smoking after all the hair. The Dyson picks up all the dog hair with ease, & lots of other dirt & dust. It amazes me how much stuff it picks up, you don't realize how dirty your floor was! I love that it's bagless, & you don't have to go anywhere near the dirt to dump it. My old vacuum I had to dig out the dirt which was hard on my allergies. Plus with the clear canister you can see how much you've picked up/when it needs to be emptied. I've never had any issues with it being too heavy to push, but I am a fairly tall woman. It is a little heavy, which makes it harder to carry up the stairs, but the heft is worth the quality. I'm still learning how to use the accessories that come with it, & I haven't found a great way to vacuum the stairs yet. I wish Dyson would make a mini-animal to clean smaller spaces! I do have to occasionally clean out the brushes on the bottom of the Dyson, the dog hair does tend to stick in there. Not so easy to get out sometimes, so it is a little bit of a pain. I've had a lot of issues with other vacuums losing suction, & getting HUGE clogs in the tubing, which meant I'd have to take it all apart to clean it out. Talk about gross. I've never once had an issue with the Dyson, & if there were a clog, most of the tubing would be easy to access. I did a lot of research before buying it, & wasn't totally sure, but once you bring it home, you know. I recommend it to pet owners with heavy shedders - it picks up the fluffy golden retriever hair without a problem. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat.

Can't beat it for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We had a Miele canister for over 5 years, and it was time to move on. It used bags ($20 every 1-2 months), and needed $75-100 in yearly maintenance. After weeks of research, we chose this vacuum due to the good reviews on multiple sites, and the crazy discounted price from Best Buy. I picked it up at our local store, and assembled it that night. Just to test, I vacuumed our living room with the Miele before hand. We have wood floors with an 8x10 area rug. I then vacuumed the room with the new Dyson. Sickening! It was so gross to see what my old vacuum was leaving behind. Took it upstairs the next day, where there is all carpeting. So gross! Had to empty the canister three times. PROS - Incredible suction power, long cord, great tools and attachments. CONS - Very heavy. Not great on bare floors even with the bare floor setting. Have to use low-profile attachment. And the extension hose is very weird. When using it, it pulls the vacuum with it, unless you purposely push it against a wall or piece of furniture.

The D28 vacuum worked for only five minutes.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had to return the vacuum and must start searching for a new vacuum. I'm surprised that Dyson hasn't found a way to prevent this. I've heard that if a Dyson machine works, it's great; however, they often do what this one did. Die after a very, very short period of working.

Big-time Dirt Sucker
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow. This machine really sucks up the dirt. I own a DC-14 Dyson and thought it was really good. This one is Great! Recently purchased a 40 year old house. Carpets looked pretty much like new and appeared clean to look at them. Don't know what kind of sweeper the previous owners had but as soon as I turned this one on and ran it about 5 feet you could see the dust and dirt being sucked into the canister. I got a canister full and swept the same room again and got another canister full. This thing really pulls the dirt out of a carpet. PROS: 1. Nice long cord. I can do all 5 bedrooms upstairs by moving the plug just once. 2. This machine has lots of suction power. At times you can feel it just clamp down on the floor. 3. The brushes seem to really stir things up as you can see individual brush marks in the carpet at times. So it seems to really dig down deep to loosen up the dirt. 4. Has a bare floor setting. I don't like to use a broom on my hardwood areas so I use this. 5. Washable filters (HEPA) 6. Stair tool for cleaning stairs. 7. All tools are on the machine but not obtrusive. CONS: 1. Might be a bit heavy for a small person to lug up and down stairs. I plan to buy another so I will have a DC28 upstairs and down with my DC14 in the basement. 2. Wish the stair tool was about 1 foot longer. Barely enough to do the stairs from one location. 3. I have one room with a really deep pile (almost a shagg-like carpet). It is nearly impossible to use this machine in that room because it is so hard to push through. Quite a work-out to do the room. If you have any nearly shagg-like carpet this might have too much suction for it if you do not have strong arms and endurence. Overall: Great machine. It is a pleasure to use it because everytime I do I get a canister full of dirt out (I sweep every week). It is a bit pricy but you can get it on sale for about $100 off the list price. Would wait for a sale but worth the $550 bucks on sale.

Best vacuum I've ever had
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wife and I agonized over this vacuum for a year or so. We finally decided to jump in this Christmas but were torn between the DC25 Animal, DC 28 Animal, and DC 14. The cost of 14 made it attractive and we figured it would still work great, but we ended up deciding that if we were going to spend that much money, then we needed to get the best. This way we would never second guess ourselves later on. We opted against the ball because we did not need the mobility and wanted the extra sucking power in the DC 28. We have had it a month and it makes our carpets look great. Its easy to clean and we were able to get some good accesories that are handy (mini-power head, and flat head tools).

Great Vacuum!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We did a lot of research before buying the DC28. Everyone had recommended the Dyson Animal. We have a dog, a cat and two children. The suction power of this vacuum is amazing. It is a little lighter than the DC25. The vacuum is easier to keep clean. Our old Bissell kept getting clogged with dog hair. The DC28's vacuum power is so strong that the hair gets pulled into the basket without any possibilities of clogs. The basket is very easy to work with and dumping the collected dirt is very easy and neat. My only complaint is the cost. This vacuum was extremely pricey. So far, however, it seems the DC28 was worth the price. My wife thinks so.

My First Dyson
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I knew I wanted a Dyson (since it is the best out there), but just didn't know which one. I purchased the DC28 upon just reading the reviews of how great this one is and also this being the newest product of the Dyson family. Plus, the extra accessories this one comes with, the longer cord, and stronger suction power. I brought it home, assembled it (took just minutes), and started testing out my new toy. I vacuumed my downstairs and upstairs and it filled up about two canisters. I have two dogs so I know my carpet is not that clean, but I don't know how some of the reviewers stated they needed to dump their canister 4-5 times per room. Not sure if I got a defective Dyson or not, but the suction seems strong to me. It's a workout just pushing it around. Ok, most reviews here already mentioned the pros, so no need for repetition. I'll just mention the cons I've notice from using this vacuum. First, I feel its a little difficult to stretch the hose 17 ft (as mentioned in the manual) up the stairs to vacuum. The stretching part is not too bad, but while you're vacuuming, the constant tugging of the hose (wanting to go back to it's original shape) makes it really tiring to hold. I also wish the manual was clearer on some of the directions. I've been using the tools on the extension pole (since only way to detach it from the vacuum) which made it difficult to clean some tight areas where I don't need the extension pole. I didn't discover later that I can detach the handle and pole from the hose and attach the tool directly to the hose. I know it's not rocket science to use a vacuum cleaner, but at least that could have been demonstrated on the manual. The manual just seems very simple for an expensive, high tech vacuum cleaner. It doesn't even show which tool is best to use on what surface? The head of the vacuum is larger than most and can't get under a lot of funiture where a typical upright vac can go. Plus, it misses an inch of suction when you push it against a wall. I resolve that my turning it to the side and using the edge suction. However, it's just another unnecessary step. I could use the tools provided, but that's even more steps I need to take. I liked the idea of having a longer cord, but notice it gets in my way a lot. I wish there was a part where it can hold the cord nearer to the handle which will make it easier to grab and move it out of the way while vacuuming. I guess you can't win it all. Last, Best Buy specs stated this model has a headlight. When I brought it home, there was no headlight. I was disappointed since that was one of the reasons why I picked this one. I'm sure every vacuum cleaner (even the thousand dollar ones) has their flaws. I just mentioned all the cons on this one so any future buyer will know what to expect. Overall, this is one of the best vacuums I've had and it does what it promise....strong suction without losing power.

The Dyson DC28 Animal with AirMuscle is a BEAST!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Dyson DC28 Animal with Airmuscle technology is an absolute BEAST! This machine is the vacuum cleaner equivalent of a black hole. It will grip your carpet like a Pit Bull and pull dirt out of it with a vengeance. We have dense, low-pile Oriental rugs. Their color has brightened noticeably and they feel new underfoot. We have one cat with hair and two Sphynxes (hairless cats). Don't think that just because you may not have cats, dogs or pets that this is not the machine for you. It seems that the "Animal" name refers more to its wild performance rather than being intended merely for homes with pets. We've used the Dyson twice now and have been astounded at the amount of dirt that this thing has drawn out of our rugs, particularly the anount of fine grit. Take some time to become acquainted with this machine. It has features unlike ORDINARY vacuum cleaners. The DC28 is in a category all its own. Sure, you can spend LOTS less on a vaccum, but why bother if you don't get what you pay for? The DC28 offers a FIVE YEAR WARRANTY and has washable filters, There is not a hint of dust smell while running this machine. The Dyson does give you a workout. I suspect that I'll have abs like the Spartans in "300" after using the Dyson on a regular basis. At least I know that our carpets are as clean as they could possibly be. My wife hasn't complained about the high suction / strength needed to vacuum either (surprised me). Save the money on the gym equipment and invest it in a DC28. If you appreciate performance that goes beyond advertising and value for your dollar, this is the machine for you. It literally leaves other vacuum cleaners in the dust. After seeing what the Dyson does, we realize that other products claiming to be "vacuum cleaners" don't even deserve to be called "cleaners". We're completely sold on Dyson.

DC28 Lives up to reviews
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After alot of research and bad experiences with a central vacuum unit and an expensive Kirby-decided that Dyson was worth a try! Now which model? It came down to the DC25 Animal or the DC28 Animal-just figured why not go all the way so went with the NEW Air Muscle technology over the Ball. I live with 3 women (wife and 2 daughters) and a poodle and I knew we needed an animal model and after taking the Dyson from room ro room in our 4000 square foot single story house that is about half tile and half berber carpet....WOW! The amount of hidden dirt and hair it picked up was amazing! I was amazed by the suction and ease of use as well as the ability to go from tile to carpet by just pushing a button. Yes this is a big investment but less than Kirby or a central vac system and we used some credit card points to get a $500 gift card ...so we found a way to make it an easy financial decision! So far a Great choice-a Great investment-a Great VACUUM! Thanks Dyson!
