Customers are saying

Customers find value in the powerful suction and effective carpet cleaning capabilities of this vacuum. Many appreciate its ease of use and the long cord, along with the useful attachments. However, some customers note that the vacuum is heavy and that the price point may be a concern for some buyers. The small dust canister also requires more frequent emptying.

    Terrible service

I purchased a Dyson DC-28 vacuum cleaner. It stopped working after only 3 months. Here is how Dyson repairs work: -you have to take it to an authorized repair shop -they do not typically stock parts -the repair shop has to order the parts from Dyson which requires a minimum order before they will send the parts -Dyson further requires all parts be prepaid by their own authorized repair center -once the authorized repair shop has accumulated enough orders to meet the minimum and has prepaid for the parts, Dyson will then send the parts out for repair. In the end, if your Dyson breaks down, plan on not vacuuming your house for close to a month. That is the situation I am currently facing. Other issues-the vacuum is very very heavy and the parts are cheap plastic. End result, I would NOT recommend a Dyson to ANYONE!!!

    Over Priced

This vacuum is a big disappointment. It is extremely heavy and is very hard to push on carpets regardless of height setting. It does pick up pet hair but you have to go over carpet at least three times to pick up the hair. It does a very good job on bare floors but that is not why I bought an upright. It is very high and cannot get under even medium height furniture; for this you have to attach an accessory tool. With the tools attached it is very difficult to move the vacuum, there is no good place to grip it. The extension for the attached tools is a solid piece and provides no flexibility when trying to reach anywhere. Directions are very limited. There is a cheap piece of plastic hose on bottom of vacuum and this becomes clogged very easily and no directions on removing clog from this area

This vacuum is made up of alot of plastic! I hate the wand! It's too long and I can't get into smal places. I'm really disappointed with this! I expected more for the money! My Bissell for animials is just as good and costs half the price! Not work the money!

    My New $650 paper weight

The suction on the vacuum cleaner is too strong for the carpets and flooring I have in my home--large area carpets, silk rugs, Flor carpet tiles. I literally can't move it. Therefore, I can not use it. Dyson Customer service is completely unhelpful and told me I had to take it to a local vacuum repair shop. They had the same problem even on the highest, deep pile setting. The vacuum wouldn't budge due to too strong of suction. Dyson would not refund my money or offer an exchange. I bought it at Best Buy and they would not refund my money either. They said if I had bought another brand they could refund my money or offer me an exchange but Dyson had a strict no return or exchange policy. It is also too heavy. The repair shop I took it to said these break regularly and I could see their shop was full of this model. They said it was poorly manufactured and other Dyson models work better. I really can't believe a company like Dyson wouldn't offer me any options so now I am stuck with a useless, 5 month old vacuum cleaner. My new $650 paper weight. Other companies have much better return and/or exchange policies. I would buy a Miele or another brand.

When it works it is great

I've had this vacuum for a year and it has been repaired four times. Dyson service is poor and the service centers they send you to are poor as well. The vacuum has a problem with the brush bar that causes it to stop working. I took the first one back to Best Buy within the first month, the second time it went to a repair shop for about three weeks, the third time it went to Dyson and now the fourth time it went to Sears. I have never paid this much for a vacuum and I'm not sure if I will again but one thing is for sure....I will never buy another Dyson.

Hate is not too strong a word, it's going back!

If we didn't have any bare floors to use it on or like to use just the hose from time to time I might not hate it, but we do. It was definitely made for taller people as the metal wand attached to the hose goes up over my head before I can pull it out to use. You can't use the hose without completely undoing the power cord. Dirt and salt from the side walks skittered away from it on the bare floors. Because you have to have the three foot metal wand attached at all times (connected to a hose coming from the bottom) it was impossible to use it effectively to clean weird to reach places (top of cat tower) and difficult to use to suck cobwebs from hard to reach spots on ceiling. We are returning it today and ordering a Shark. I spent six years with a Shark dreaming of the day I could justify a Dyson...when my son broke the Shark I thought my day had finally come...one attempt to use the Dyson and I missed my Shark, after the second attempt I decided hate was not too strong a word.

    Not Right

I bought it for my wife Dec. 25, 2009. When it came out of the box the handle was so stiff that we though it would break when we got it to go down. The next time she used it the handle would not go down at all so into the repair shop. they lubed it and it worked for a really short time then it had the white lights start blinking so back to the repair shop. The repair shop replaced one of the boards in it and it still did not work right so they replaced the head on it and we used it. Today 6-2-10 was really bad the beater bar in the head stopped working and no suction at the head also none of the warning lights sent any flashing messages. So we called Dyson and they had us ship it to ??? Ups. When it works it is great but it has been in the repair shop to much for a new vacuum and now it is gone back to them.

    Worst vacuum ever!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Dyson animal is the worst vacuum there is - aside from the inflated price, the vacuum constantly clogs, the bagless unit bottom is broken after 3yrs and it's horrible on wood floors. I bought this vacuum 4yrs ago hoping it would be our last vacuum purchase. From the get-go it started to get clogged in the various parts and just "pushed" the fur/dirt around on the wood floors. When the suction is working, the hose with the attachments work great, but that varies. Don't waste your money on a Dyson. There are much better vacuums out there at a more reasonable cost!

    Total waste of money

The most annoying "feature" is the auto cut off switch for the beater bar. When you lift the handle too much it stops the beater from working. This happens so often I wanted to throw the thing out the window! It cuts off during normal use in tight areas especially on stairs. The motor is under powered and bogs down on normal carpet. There is no conveinient handle to hold the vacuum while doing stairs, really bad design. My 99 dollar hoover is much more powerful and easier to use. Don't waste your money!

    3rd Dyson Animal

Will be returning to store. This is the 3rd Dyson we have purchased. The fist two are still going, hand me downs to family. This one has two issues in the first 30 days. Could be quality issues.
