I purchased this vacuum Dyson online, but it was delivered with damages. The packaging looked fine, but the vacuum itself has scratches. Very disappointed with the condition it arrived in.

Owned a Dyson V8, and love how it works but lasts about 4 minutes on high, which is the speed you have to use to suck up anything. Upgraded to this specifically for more battery life. Nope, 7 minutes on high. I guess the bonus is, now I can see how short the battery life is in advance, given the useless display. Not worth it!

Dyson products are known for their sleek modern design, powerful performance, and modular design. I have always been a fan and I believe Dyson products some of the best on the market. This new Dyson Gen5 Detect builds off of the V15 so it is very similar looking but has some new tricks. This model features a newer version of the laser that reveals dust on non-carpet floors, a longer runtime, and most noteworthy a new motor. In the box it comes with two main cleaner heads and four accessories. One hidden and built into the wand which is pretty innovative. Fluffy Optic head Carpet head Hair screw head Combination tool Built in crevice tool Wall dock & Charger Something I really liked was that the carpet attachment has a hair shredder built in. At first I was skeptical because long hair was spinning up in the brush head but I found that over time it was indeed automatically removed and sucked up. I'm not going to miss having to clean hair out of the brush. The attachments are easy to use and store in the wall mount. If you don't use the wall mount I noticed they kept the rubber on the back of the battery to help it lean up and grip against the wall. In terms of performance, the Dyson Gen5 Detect is very impressive. In comparison I did notice that it got more dust out of my carpet than my previous Dyson V series model. It was able to easily remove dust, dirt, and short/long hair from both hard floors and carpets. The laser was also very effective at revealing dust, which was helpful in knowing where to focus the vacuum cleaner. The HEPA filter also did a good job of trapping particles without limiting air flow, which is important for people with allergies or asthma. Just make sure to hold your breath when emptying the bin. Instead of a trigger it has a actual power button. The motor adjusts its suction based on how much debris its picking up and what type of floor its on. It also still has three modes if you want to override it. Eco, auto, and boost Just like the V15 the LCD display shows what its sucking up in real time using a built in particle sensor which is interesting. It also shows what mode your in, battery life, and helps communicate any maintenance needed like cleaning the filter when it gets too dirty. I should mention the filter in this is similar to the others so its hand washable and can be replaced when its no longer effective. Like all of Dysons previous cordless models its easy to maneuver around the house and up stairs. Its lightweight design and swivel head make it easy to get into tight spaces. This new model has a slightly longer run time. Up to 60 min vs 70 min. Hard to tell but what I can say is that I can clean my entire house on one charge. Pros: Strong suction HEPA filter Cleanable filter Modular design Battery is easily removable LCD display Lots of attachments Laser for hard floors Easy to move around Cons: Expensive In the end this is a fantastic vacuum. Dyson has always made great stuff and this vacuum is no exception to that. If you want the best fully featured cordless vacuum on the market then this is it. If you want something that's a little cheaper without all the latest added features then get one their previous models. Either way get a Dyson because they are worth it!

    Quality + Performance. Great Vacuum...at a Price

To get it out of the way right from the start, this is a ridiculously fantastic vacuum. Full stop. It is very powerful, it is designed and built very well, it has more than sufficient battery life, and I am nothing but pleased with its performance. There are some details to get into, and some thoughts about use case, cost, and value, but it simply is a great vacuum. I have some experience with Dyson products generally, and a little with vacuums as well, so I expected a high level of build quality and a thoughtful design. Largely, that is here. It is just built well, and “feels good” to handle as well as use. There is a little weight to it (but it is not “heavy”), and while I guess some may not like that, I think it sort of makes it easier to handle and maneuver as a whole. It comes with a decent warranty (2 years) and great support (lifetime), but, honestly, I don’t think most will have any “typical” issues. Beyond that, however, are the details. Conversion to handheld is easy. There is a nice selection of accessories that cover all of my needs (more on that later). There is an actual power button (and it is in a convenient location). I am sure this sounds like a strange positive, but Dyson has been a firm believer in the “trigger” system, which, frankly, is something I never have liked. I am sure there are many that like it, and will miss it, but not me. I think this is a great change. Switching surfaces is a non-issue. Digging deeper is all the tech as well as performance. One of the neatest things for me is the “Fluffy Optic” cleaner (I really do not understand the name) which is a laser/light which really does highlight and show you dust you may not have even realized was there. Given my nature this is kind of a good thing and kind of a bad thing, as you really do not grasp how much dust is around and how quickly it reappears. Be warned lol. I think the “coolest” thing for me is simply the LCD screen. As a numbers person, this got me. I know it is only vacuuming, but showing active live data on what is being picked up does let me be more efficient and, to me at least, it is just cool. Beyond that though, it also shows the mode you are in, how much time you have left on the charge, and any maintenance issues you may have. ALLLL of that is great, but it is how all of that comes together in performance that is most important to me. It is extremely powerful, the filtration is rated top of class, and all the active data it takes in can actually adjust the power for debris and floor type. Now my space is not the largest, but I do have multiple floor types and this vacuum has EASILY done the best job I have ever gotten from a vacuum. I feel as if my floors and carpet are actually getting cleaner than they were previously. It is also just a little bit more fun to do. Given my space, battery life is not an issue for me, as I can easily do all I need to without a recharge, but given the rated time, I “think” most would be ok. Keep in mind though, that mode used, surface, etc…will alter the time available. As a whole, I could not really be much happier with this vacuum. The charging is a little slow, which honestly to me is not really a bad thing. One, for my needs it is not an issue, two, once I am done vacuuming, I typically do not need it again for a fair amount of time. Just something to note. Also, I do not love the mount. It works, I just wish it were a bit “more” given everything. Lastly, and while this not an issue specific to me, all the accessories are fantastic, but if you have some from previous models, they will not work with this newer vacuum. Not sure if this was done intentionally or not, but it is a bit of a letdown, and again, something to note. All of that said, I really do like this vacuum. A lot. It does everything I need and want it to do, and it does it very well. It is easy to use, and I think even a little fun. The quality is there, and I think it will last for quite some time. While I do have a few minor nitpicks here and there, they really are minor and don’t really detract from how I feel overall. Of course, given the cost, I think people really need to look at their use and needs, but if the fit is there, I don’t think people will be disappointed.

Powerful vacuum cleaner for quality cleaning

Dyson Gen5 Detect is the latest and most powerful cordless vacuum. I have been using the Dyson Outsize as my go to vacuum cleaner and Gen5 is no doubt an upgrade with all the features and functionality it comes with. The entire package is well made and remarkably easy to unbox and set up. Everything is cardboard, which means fully recyclable. In the box you will find the vacuum cleaner, the Fluffy Optic cleaner head, Digital Motorbar cleaner head, hair screw tool, wand with built-in crevice tool, combination tool, docking station and the charger. One of the biggest differences you will notice is the placement of the power button. You no longer have to hold the trigger when vacuuming. There is a traditional power button at the top of the vacuum cleaner that you use to turn it on and off. This might take some time to get adjusted to, if you are used to the trigger, but it is a welcome sign for most. Make sure you charge your battery fully before using it. It can take up to 4-5 hours to fully charge (0% to 100%) depending on how much charge you have when unboxed. Keep in mind, the battery on this is not interchangeable with previous models. The powerful motor provides incredibly good suction power for all your cleaning needs. I use it mostly in Auto mode so it can change according to the floor I am cleaning. I was able to vacuum the entire house on one full battery charge, which lasted around an hour. The more you use on carpet or Boost mode, you will get less run time. The LCD display is useful in showing the remaining battery percentage as well as how much dust has been collected after each clean. The Fluffy Optic cleaner head has Laser light placed which highlights the dirt and dust that is normally not visible. The light is bright enough to be able to see in a well-lit room. Just remember, you can't turn it off. The Digital Motorbar is handy in removing hairs while also helping in detangling the hair when cleaning. I really like the wand that comes with this vacuum. It has a built-in crevice tool. What it means is that if you remove any of the attached tool, it instantly converts to a handheld vacuum without the needing to stop and go. The docking station is convenient to store the vacuum cleaner and charge it. If you have the floor standing dock, the Gen5 Detect is not compatible with it. Another feature I like is the washable filters. This means no need for an additional cost to replace the filters at a regular interval. Cleaning the vacuum cleaner is effortless. You can empty out the bin directly into garbage with just a push of a button. Consider the Gen5 Detect if you are looking to upgrade your existing stick vacuum or want a powerful vacuum cleaner with all the improvements.

We were in need of a cordless vacuum that we could quickly take around the house to clean, and a vacuum we could use to in other places (like our car). It had to be strong, it had to be tough, it had to be good for the clean. We need a vacuum from the future. This definitely checked all our boxes. The attachments that came with it, made it ready for any vacuum situation that comes our way. And the charge time is ideal for us. Definitely worth the price. I only hope it’ll last a few years!

Attachments break VERY easily and dyson customer support refuses to replace them :) dyson customer support is horrible to talk to about anything! vacuum does a decent job on both hardwood and carpet, however vacuuming carpet can be a little hard since the vacuum isn’t very ergonomically designed. It’s just not comfortable due to the weight distribution of the machine and pushing it over the carpet. Really not worth $1000 for how horrible dyson customer support is. i’d rather die than talk to them again.
