The original filter was a 4 piece, 2 layer design. This updated design combines both layers. Dyson claims it is more efficient than the previous design. The carbon filter does have a larger surface area now, so they're likely right. My son is asthmatic, so I will continue to purchase these Dyson products as they do offer some relief to him.

YES IT REPLACES THE GREEN THING

That being said, the filter seems to work the same as before. Still way too pricey. I don’t mind the upfront dyson premium for such nice products, but the prices on these filters just seems like outright extortion.

I had previously bought some cheaper versions on Amazon and they didn't last very long at all. I picked up the actual Dyson filters and the air purifier is running much smoother now.
